APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday December 12, 2003 (MJD 52986) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington (swing) Mike Harvanek (night) Atsuko Kleinman (night) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The high humidity and the snow blowing around due to the wind kept us closed all night. We shook items that we could shake in the enclosure. The follwing were tested and checked out fine. o sdssProcedure o expsure pause/resumeStare from SOPGUI o Part of PR5656(stripeAxisRates, calcStripeParams, scanStripe) ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Night: We start the evening with the humidity too high. The snow is on the ground and the wind is blowing them around. We doubt we can open tonight. Shaken Items: sdssProcedures: successfully tested by verifying that changes listed in the changeLog were indeed present. iop/sop v3_124_0: successfully tested the SOPGUI pauseStare/resumeStare/endStare controls. SEGUE iop s1_5_1 tests done in enclosure PR5656 "problems with stripeAxisRates with stripes not up in v5_17" We tested part of this PR that could be tested inside the enclosure. We ran stripeAxisRates for a northern, southern and a SEGUE stripe and successfully got plots. successfully tested stripeAxisRates for northern, southern and SEGUE stripes that were up and northern, southern and SEGUE stripes that were down. Successfully tested calcStripeParams for northern, southern and SEGUE stripes that were up and northern, southern and SEGUE stripes that were down. Successfully tested scanStripe in the enclosure with 3 stop buttons in (i.e., the telescope did not actually move) for northern, southern and SEGUE stripes that were up; we did not perform this test for stripes that were down. Note that there is 1 typo in the SEGUE test instructions: scanStripe 205 N -startMu 30 should be scanStripe 205 N -mu 30 We will test skippy when we get on sky. If skippy/ltMatch runs successfully, then we will close this PR. 09:30Z The humidity is now good enough to open, but the snow is blowing around. 11:00Z We decided to put the telescopes to bed. Mike changed the imager dewar. There was 3 fills left, but with the poor road condition (it took Mike 15 min to drive up the APO drive way in his jeep today) and not knowing if we were going to have someone coming in for dewar duties, we thought it best to change it. endNight worked and finished successfully. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4306 23:02Z 23:18Z 100 O 136.02 139.90 40 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 23784, plate -9999 ------- 23:03 23784 0.0 bias 23:27 23785 0.0 bias 00:14 23786 0.0 bias 01:22 23787 0.0 bias 01:36 23788 0.0 bias 01:46 23789 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:35Z engcam 1.00000 0 1259 0 121 30.0 -6.3 15 347 01:54Z engcam 1.00000 0 1259 0 121 30.0 -6.3 12 330 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:51Z 23 20 13 304 (NW) 2722 - 23:23Z 23 20 15 300 (WNW) 187 - 23:55Z 21 18 18 313 (NW) 154 - 00:27Z 20 18 11 330 (NNW) 154 - 01:00Z 20 17 11 2 (N) 188 - 01:32Z 20 17 11 349 (NNW) 150 - 02:03Z 20 16 7 305 (NW) 152 - 02:07Z 20 17 1 20 (NNE) 133 - 02:37Z 20 17 0 255 (WSW) 128 - 03:08Z 20 17 8 338 (NNW) 123 - 03:39Z 20 17 6 343 (NNW) 155 - 04:11Z 19 17 12 333 (NNW) 130 - 04:44Z 19 16 16 350 (NNW) 127 - 05:14Z 19 15 9 26 (NNE) 111 - 05:44Z 19 15 12 357 (NNW) 127 - 06:14Z 18 15 15 357 (NNW) 123 - 06:44Z 18 14 16 2 (N) 136 - 07:14Z 18 14 8 50 (NE) 119 - 07:45Z 18 13 13 12 (NNE) 93 - 08:15Z 18 12 20 355 (NNW) 103 - 08:45Z 17 11 22 342 (NNW) 120 - 09:15Z 17 11 19 356 (NNW) 85 - 09:46Z 17 10 13 3 (N) 117 - 10:18Z 17 10 15 5 (N) 92 - 10:50Z 17 9 24 17 (NNE) 91 - 11:20Z 19 0 14 45 (NE) 56 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Telescope at stow with engCam on.
