APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday August 7, 2004 (MJD 53225) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- NIGHT: Howard Brewington Setph Snedden Jon Brinkman (on site) Craig Loomis (phone) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had clouds/rain and never opened. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: sdssHost was not rebooted because of the time consuming problem with dewar-1 of the imager. Jon and Steph cleaned the contacts on the (dewar-1) power supply as well as the contacts in the power supply's socket. Next, we did a very long imager bias while monitoring the dewar-1 computer screen in the control room. We did not see the problem again during a 350+ frame bias. The TCC computer had an over heating problem. Jon called Craig, and Craig suggested that the hard-dirve from the TCC (over heating) computer be swapped into the spare TCC computer. This act solved the problem. The defective TCC computer was left on top of the UPS rack in the computer room. We had to home and relax M1 because of poor mirror-stat numbers. During this process, we had another problem (twice) with the mirror controler rebooting. We are not sure why this happened. Spectro focus was checked and found to be within spec. See problem section for coll_motors numbers. Night: 02:45Z We opened the doors and louvers and turned on the fans. 03:02Z We had clouds at twilight, so we waited. 08:31Z We got some light rain on site. 10:30Z We closed the doors and louvers and turned off the fans. We never pulled the building. We noticed that the monitor of monxMike had a display jitter problem. And sometimes, the display would go black for a moment. The dust counter at the PT was still unhappy last night. While in the plugging lab last night, we noticed a large pool of water on the floor, which had dripped from the ceiling. We sent Mark Klaene an e-mail about the discovery. The telescope's coolant pump in the lower enclosure seemed to be a little louder than normal. We are not sure if this is related to the coolant leak discovered in the dog house last night. See last night's log or PR for details. endNight finished and was happy. Misc. watcher messages in the problems section. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4756 22:40Z 02:03Z 100 O 6.09 56.96 354 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 00:12 27675 0.0 bias ----- sequence 27676, plate 1573 ------- 02:09 27676 10.0 flat 02:12 27677 2.0 arc 02:16 27678 2.1 arc 02:18 27679 2.1 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL cloudy 01 Stays: JL cloudy 02 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:58Z 62 43 15 52 (NE) 103216 - clouds 00:31Z 61 42 12 75 (ENE) 121292 - 01:03Z 62 45 5 15 (NNE) 111989 - 01:35Z 62 42 16 31 (NNE) 117424 - 02:06Z 62 42 14 358 (NNW) 116527 - 02:36Z 61 43 14 30 (NNE) 120456 - 03:06Z 61 44 14 44 (NE) 120819 - 03:37Z 61 43 8 30 (NNE) 121766 - clouds 04:07Z 63 42 1 349 (NNW) 120997 - 04:37Z 63 43 1 294 (WNW) 118904 - 05:07Z 63 43 1 287 (WNW) 118908 - 05:38Z 62 43 5 333 (NNW) 117830 - 06:08Z 61 43 1 223 (SW) 122006 - 06:38Z 61 43 0 202 (SSW) 122255 - clouds 07:10Z 61 44 3 184 (S) 122468 - 07:43Z 61 44 4 182 (S) 123793 - 08:15Z 60 44 6 196 (SSW) 125533 - 08:47Z 57 45 17 202 (SSW) 127114 - 09:20Z 56 46 13 185 (S) 128148 - 09:52Z 56 45 8 181 (S) 126994 - clouds 10:24Z 55 46 8 176 (S) 128604 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 02:46Z doors and louvers opened, fans on 10:30Z doors and louvers closed, fans off Telescope at 121,30,00 LN2 connected and turned on Spectro dewars were force filled CWs at 240lbs Imager 179lbs 20psi Spectro 216lbs 25psi ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_140_0 Watcher: v2_29_0 MCP: v5_25_0 TPM: tpm_v2_42_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: TCC 2.7.2.1 August 6 2004 sdssProcedures: v1_92 SoS: v4_10_7 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.5210 0.5260 Axial B 0.7230 0.7130 Axial C 1.0190 0.9990 Trans D -8.6840 -8.6780 Lateral E 11.5824 11.5062 Lateral F 11.5189 11.4808 GALILS Commanded: 4850. -3650. 4050. -6150. 40200. 39150.
