DIMM is functional. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: ------------------- Done, spectrographs have to be focused. No problems to report. night: ------ Partly cloudy at sunset, so we opened for spectroscopy. During twilight we were able to get DIMM set up. It appears to be working, although the az drive doesn't sound as smooth as we remember :-( We had windscreen touches tonight only when slewing to & from 6 degrees altitude (opening & closing). 01:07Z Cartridge 2, plate 2042 GSOGTF. This plate already had signal. With an additional 2 exposures totaling 2100s, we declared it done. Sky line at 6300A a bit strong, but most SoS warnings are from bright stars, we believe. 02:16Z Cartridge 3, Plate 2048. GSOGTF. This SEGUE bright plate showed b1 values that were unrealistically low. We used the b2 values, and aimed for a target (S/N)^2 > 25. Clouds came in midway through this plate, lowering our efficiency. Still, we managed to finish this plate with a total exposure time of 6300s. 05:16Z Cartridge 7, plate 2078 GS on edges of fibers 10,11. As soon as the field was acquired the clouds thickened. We waited until 05:44Z and started an exposure as the clouds started to clear. The clouds thickened up again right away, so we aborted the exposure & waited some more. 08:30Z We tried again. We completed one exposure among highly variable clouds, but it wasn't quite enough to finish the plate. We then waited on clouds again, got another patch of thinner clouds just before the plate expired, and finished the plate with a total exposure time of 2100 s. 10:37Z Cartridge 1, plate 1952 GSOGTF. Clouds finally started clearing out. Finished this plate with a total exposure time of 3900 s. 12:14Z Cartridge 8, plate 1621 GSOGTF. We worked this plate under variable clouds into twilight.
