APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday March 1, 2005 (MJD 53431) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Howard Brewington Night: Dan Long Steph Snedden Additional Gourmet Night attendees: Atsuko Nitta Scot Kleinman Jon Davis Craig Loomis ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Partly cloudy all night plus moonlight meant spectroscopy. A mostly successful night, with 6 plates declared done; 1979, 2025, 2054, 1985, 2020 and 1947. A seventh plate may also be done, but we are awaiting word from Jen. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing =============== Had no problems with the afternoon checkout, and put the Spectro focus numbers in the Problems Section. No spectro focus adjustments made. Night =============== The Gourmet Night Menu: A small GNight tonight, but still tasty. Cheese & crackers Garlic cheese bread citrus green salad chicken cacciatore Roasted chicken baked beans Decadent Godiva chocolate ice cream Partly cloudy at sunset. We started with spectroscopy. On opening, we heard regular (not quite periodic) bumping noises coming from the enclosure North side truck. We speculated that a mummified packrat was stuck to the wheel (not really), but maybe the day staff should look for the source of the bumping noises. 01:27Z Cartridge 4, plate 2054 - SEGUE Bright We would have had GSOGTF with last night's offsets in if we had been in focus. b1 showed very low values in SoS; unrealistically so. We declared the plate done with a total exposure time of 2700s based on b2. 03:13Z Cartridge 9, plate 1947 - Survey plate - "The Roswell Plate" GSOGTF. No aliens seen. Finished the plate with a total exposure of 2520 s. 04:24Z Cartridge 2, plate 2025 - Survey plate No GSOGTF, but they were found after applying an approx 15 asec offset in altitude. Finished the plate with a total exposure of 2600 s. 05:30Z Cartridge 1, plate 1979 - Survey plate. GSOGTF. Finished the plate with a total exposure time of 2800 s. 06:41Z Cartridge 5, plate 2027 - Survey plate GSOGTF. Total exposure time of 3500 s. We are provisionally calling this plate done, but it is borderline. We would like fast feedback, please, so we know if it needs more signal or can be unplugged. 08:04Z Cartridge 6, plate 1985 - Survey plate GSOGTF. Finished this plate with a total exposure time of 4800 s. 09:51Z Cartridge 7, plate 2020 - Survey plate GSOGTF. With the existing signal on this plate, we were able to declare it done with a total exposure time of 3000 s. 11:03Z Cartridge 8, plate 1668 - Survey plate GSOGTF. During the first exposure, the clouds thickened a bit. Combined with the scattered moonlight, we could get no useful signal. After trying two fruitless exposure, we gave it up for the night. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5169 22:40Z 23:16Z 100 O -150.88 -141.80 39 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 31054, plate -9999 ------- 22:32 31054 0.0 bias ----- sequence 31055, plate 2020 ------- 23:26 31055 10.0 flat test spectro focus 23:29 31056 2.0 arc test 23:33 31057 2.1 arc test 23:36 31058 2.1 arc test ----- sequence 31059, plate -9999 ------- 00:14 31059 0.0 bias 00:23 31060 0.0 bias ----- sequence 31061, plate 2054 ------- 02:00 31061 10.0 flat 02:02 31062 2.0 arc 02:20 31063 900.1 target 02:38 31064 900.1 target 02:56 31065 900.1 target 02:59 31066 10.0 flat 03:02 31067 2.0 arc ----- sequence 31068, plate 1947 ------- 03:19 31068 10.0 flat 03:21 31069 2.0 arc 03:39 31070 900.1 target 03:57 31071 900.1 target 04:12 31072 720.1 target ----- sequence 31073, plate 2025 ------- 04:26 31073 10.0 flat 04:29 31074 2.0 arc 04:45 31075 800.1 target 05:01 31076 800.1 target 05:21 31077 1000.1 target ----- sequence 31078, plate 1979 ------- 05:33 31078 10.0 flat 05:35 31079 2.0 arc 05:54 31080 900.1 target 06:11 31081 900.1 target 06:31 31082 1000.1 target ----- sequence 31083, plate 2027 ------- 06:43 31083 10.0 flat 06:45 31084 2.0 arc 07:05 31085 1000.1 target 07:28 31086 1200.1 target 07:52 31087 1300.1 target ----- sequence 31088, plate 1985 ------- 08:05 31088 10.0 flat 08:07 31089 2.0 arc 08:35 31090 1500.1 target 09:03 31091 1500.1 target 09:37 31092 1800.2 target ----- sequence 31093, plate 2020 ------- 09:53 31093 10.0 flat 09:56 31094 2.0 arc 10:24 31095 1500.1 target 10:52 31096 1500.2 target ----- sequence 31097, plate 1668 ------- 11:03 31097 10.0 flat 11:06 31098 2.0 arc 11:34 31099 1500.1 target 12:02 31100 1500.2 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:50Z 4 2054 73.12 -0.0004 55.91 0.0029 237.77 -0.0051 1.000140 03:20Z 9 1947 96.06 -0.0007 52.91 0.0027 252.93 0.0068 1.000240 04:24Z 2 2025 103.35 0.0009 55.87 0.0044 -99.98 0.0128 1.000180 05:33Z 1 1979 95.65 0.0006 62.10 0.0024 257.76 -0.0038 1.000130 06:42Z 5 2027 112.57 -0.0024 69.60 0.0032 -81.74 0.0036 1.000100 08:08Z 6 1985 126.46 -0.0016 75.60 0.0024 -62.75 0.0112 1.000030 09:51Z 7 2020 259.92 0.0022 79.43 0.0016 86.74 0.0060 1.000090 11:03Z 8 1668 210.04 0.0028 67.56 0.0022 41.98 0.0003 1.000090 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL8342 Stays: JL8343 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:50Z 4 2054 1.00014 -1383 244 225 73 55.9 -0.4 10 15 -
