APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday March 16, 2005 (MJD 53446) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Howard Brewington Night: Mike Harvanek Jurek Krzesinski ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Spectroscopy all night, 7 plates done: 2053 (that one needs to be looked at since b1 never got s/n >2), 2096,2037,1671,1991,2036,1693 Problems: ODH meter went on for no reason, we switched it off for the night. 04:22 We had to recollimate sp1 during the night - see the log (plate 2037). 10:30Z Spectro crates hung on flat reading. Fixing the problems cost us the time which would be necessary to finish one more plate tonight. DIMM cover did not moved tonight: barely at the evening, and we had to bag it to move at the morning. It took us 10 minutes to close that thing. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing: ========== Had no problems with the afternoon checkout. Spectro focus was checked, and sp2 was adjusted. See Problems Section for focus numbers and details. I cleaned a few water spots from the cloudCam's mirror. Night: ========== Since there was some moon light at the evening we started with spectroscopy. 02:00Z cart 1 plt. 2053. fk5 used, +9" RA correction applied to center fk5 in the fiber. 02:43Z Oxygen alarm went on! We were between exposures when the alarm light went on and after it stopped to flash we started the next exposure. We checked with French and decided that want that ODH to be switched off for the night, so we did. As on the previous night for that plate tonight b1 did not make above 2 S/N as well. This time however we've got plenty of sos warnings (whopping fibers) in all filters (which we did not see on previous nights). Since we started the first exposure (31431) 10 minutes before the twilight end and with some moon light, we think that is what caused more sos warnings today. Well, the rest of the exposures got similar sos warnings, so please check on that plate. We declared the plate done. 03:35Z Cart 2 plt 2096 mounted. Stars on go to filed. Done with one exposure. 04:22Z Cart 4 plt 2037 mounted. Stars on go to field. Wsigma showed in red for b1. We had to recollimate sp1 and precalibed again. Then we found out that Nlamps for r2 was red. We got another set of calibs, to find out that arc WSIGMA for b1 is red again. At this point we started a full collimation procedure. It doesn't make any sens to us, but that is what happened for the same plate mounted and the temperature change of order 0.5 C deg. Plate done. 06:39Z Cart 7 plt 1671. Stars on go to field. The seeing has deteriorated, Mike decided to check the focus by doing the focus loop. Focus was corrected. palte done. Seeing got very good, but we also got clouds - nonphotometric. 07:45Z Cart 6 plt 1991. Fk5 used to find the guide stars. Plate done. 09:03Z Cart 5 plt 2036. Stars on go to field. More clouds are forming on top of us. Plate done. 10:14Z Cart 9 plt 1693. Fk5 used. The weather got improved, but then we got the problem with spectro DA - it got stuck on reading the flat. We rebooted the spectro crates, restarted the servers several times before they were happy again. Then we took biases to correct for the exposure/da frame numbers and started over with the calibrations. Plate done. endNight finished ok. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5204 22:56Z 23:13Z 100 O -132.21 -127.77 39 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): yes QA Procedures Done (y/n): yes UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 31423, plate -9999 ------- 22:54 31423 0.0 bias ----- sequence 31424, plate 2053 ------- 23:04 31424 10.0 flat 23:06 31425 2.0 arc 23:11 31426 2.1 arc 23:13 31427 2.1 arc ----- sequence 31429, plate 2053 ------- 02:10 31429 10.0 flat 02:12 31430 2.0 arc 02:38 31431 1200.1 target 03:06 31432 1200.1 target 03:29 31433 1200.1 target 03:32 31434 10.0 flat 03:35 31435 2.0 arc ----- sequence 31436, plate 2096 ------- 03:49 31436 10.0 flat 03:51 31437 2.0 arc 04:16 31438 1200.1 target ----- sequence 31439, plate 2037 ------- 04:28 31439 10.0 flat 04:30 31440 2.0 arc 04:48 31441 10.0 flat 04:50 31442 2.0 arc 05:04 31443 10.0 flat 05:06 31444 2.0 arc 05:15 31445 2.1 arc 05:17 31446 2.1 arc 05:28 31447 10.0 flat 05:31 31448 2.0 arc 05:54 31449 1000.1 target 06:14 31450 1000.1 target 06:33 31451 1000.2 target ----- sequence 31452, plate 1671 ------- 06:51 31452 10.0 flat 06:54 31453 2.0 arc 07:14 31454 1000.1 target 07:31 31455 800.1 target 07:47 31456 800.1 target ----- sequence 31457, plate 1991 ------- 08:03 31457 10.0 flat 08:05 31458 2.0 arc 08:22 31459 800.1 target 08:39 31460 800.1 target 08:55 31461 800.1 target ----- sequence 31462, plate 2036 ------- 09:06 31462 10.0 flat 09:08 31463 2.0 arc 09:29 31464 1000.2 target 09:49 31465 1000.1 target 10:06 31466 800.2 target ----- sequence 31467, plate 1693 ------- 10:22 31467 10.0 flat 10:32 31469 0.0 bias 10:35 31471 0.0 bias 10:46 31472 10.0 flat 10:48 31473 2.0 arc 11:05 31474 700.1 target 11:23 31475 900.1 target 11:46 31476 1200.1 target 12:10 31477 1200.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:27Z 1 2053 121.67 -0.0034 83.50 0.0006 -62.24 0.0281 1.000040 03:54Z 2 2096 105.10 -0.0021 63.68 0.0026 -93.14 0.0049 1.000140 04:34Z 4 2037 109.46 -0.0027 62.84 0.0010 -89.92 -0.0020 1.000080 06:55Z 7 1671 131.59 -0.0016 56.97 0.0018 -74.73 -0.0193 1.000130 09:12Z 5 2036 249.79 0.0004 62.14 -0.0015 89.61 -0.0162 0.999930 10:51Z 9 1693 75.06 -0.0051 68.68 0.0018 243.75 0.0160 1.000110 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL 8396 Stays: JL 8397 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:27Z 1 2053 1.00004 -395 964 175 122 83.5 -4.2 7 344 gdr 1.4 03:54Z 2 2096 1.00014 -1383 250 250 105 63.7 -4.6 13 286 gdr 1.4 04:34Z 4 2037 1.00008 -790 742 250 109 62.8 -4.7 11 270 gdr 1.2 06:55Z 7 1671 1.00013 -1284 273 175 132 57.0 -4.9 14 279 gdr 1.4 09:12Z 5 2036 0.99993 691 1919 200 250 62.2 -4.6 12 280 gdr 1.2 10:51Z 9 1693 1.00011 -1086 435 200 75 68.7 -5.1 14 283 gdr 1.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:45Z 27 2 4 352 (NNW) 692 -
