Still, three plates done; signal on a fourth. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No problems with afternoon check. Spectrograph focus unchanged. Still set for around 7 C. Night: ------ Scattered clouds and cirrus at twilights- we start with cart 2 plate 2000. 03:03Z John's preCalibs failed because goStare wouldn't start staring (bad goStare). He tried to drop and reGrab instruments, but they would not be grabbed (bad instruments). So, we ftelnetLogoutPorted things and this time, the grabInstruments and goStare worked. Done in three exposures. 03:59Z on to cart 1 plate 2010. GSOTGTF. to try to maximize time away form the zenith avoidance zone, we started with an exposure and did midCalibs after the first exposure. Done in 3 exposures. On to 05:10Z cart 3 plate 2089. No guide stars - even with clearing offsets fk5 easily found. Due to an uncharacteristically low rate of signal gathering, we paused exposure 3 to do a focus loop- verifying our focus was good and we just were suffering from bad seeing. Not finished in 4 long exposures. On to 07:32Z cart 7 plate 1577. GSOTGTF. The first attempted preCalib failed with a GMAKEHIST: flat too faint error message- as it did once earlier in the night. Finished (unexpectedly) in 3 long exposures, causing us to abort (actually, readout and declare bad) the 4th exposure. On to: 09:30Z cart 4 plate 1576. GSOTGTF (on the edge of the larger fibers). There is NO light in guide fiber 3 at all on this cartridge. Two nights ago, all was OK. Cloudth thickening - first 20m exposure declared bad.
