Finished plate 1655 combined with previous exposure. Data on plate 1827. We saw severeal too large to correct fiducial crossings tonight. Moth or some other bugs might be pasted on the drive surfaces. Hercules will inspect them during the day. Also the air hoses on PT dome showed that the air pressure was slightly lower than it should. The work done this afternoon (moth ejector system) air pipe has come undone. JB fixed it. Afternoon checkout ------------------- ptvme backplane error occurred after host reboot and while we were starting up our iops. The ptvmeTest results are in the problem section. We saw errno=62 in photo1, 2, astro and spectro. We rebooted all crates, but the problem persisted. Craig then did ptvmeRest and all was fine again. We think the crates can tell the difference if it is Craig who is asking to behave themselves or non-Craig. I hope the new DA system will not discriminate non-Craigs. Partly cloudy. We start with spectro. Cart 1 Plate 2181 (SEGUE) ------------------ Stars on gotoField with offsets from last night. We only need one exposure to finish this plate. We got one exposure before twilight ended. After sending the telescope to instChange, we realized that we did not take a preCalib right before the science. We had calibs from the collimation check which we were doing until right before sunset. But unfortunately, the time between those cals and the science too long. So we will redo the one exposure needed for this plate later in the night -- this plate is available all night long. We tried to find Polaris with DIMM, but with the clouds, it was hard to set it up. The CCD will have the image of Polaris and then the next will not have one. So Atsuko decided to wait until the clouds thinned. Cart 6 Plate 1827 --------------------- Stars on gotoField with offset from last plate. The clouds were getting thicker. The efficiency was 10% so we wait. We got one exposure when the efficiency went around 50% although the plate has expired. We then went to a new plate After putting this plate, we tried to start DIMM. But after putting Polaris in the center, we got the following message when we tried to start the seeing measurement. The selected star RA/DEC [position differs 145.78333 degrees from the telescope RA/DEC position. This might lead to problems since Automatic Synchronization is selected. Do you want to continue? Somehow, the telescope position and where the software thinks it is has gone out of sync. since we did not want to play with DIMM while taking spectro data (flashlights are bad for data), we did not try to fix this problem. Cart 7 Plate 1655 ------------------ stars on gotoField. This plate is 1/3 done. We finished this plate with one exposure, when combined with previous exposures. During instChange, we got backplane communication problem again. The spectro server was missing. So we issued ptvmeReset, restarted servers and were back in business. When going to field, we got altitude too large to correct error and we did not get any valid ones after it until we reached the field. We did not find any guide stars upon arriving to the field so we crossed another fiducial which got valid correction. We returned to the field and found guide stars. Cart 8 Plate 1851 ------------------ Found stars on gotoField, but then the clouds thickened and we did not get any science exposure. Cart 1 Plate 2181 ------------------- Back to this plate to finish it off, if the clouds will let us.
