APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday November 17, 2005 (MJD 53692) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek Steph Snedden French Leger ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Spectro monthly checkout. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Spectro test for Loomis/Schlegel with the sparsely plugged plate was performed. Primary mirror was homed and relaxed. Secondary mirror was homed. Spectro monthly checkout was completed except for the dithered flats (the specFlats command failed). Eric, could you please read the details in the main log section. There were problems with the secondary dewar pressure for sp2. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Spectro Test for Craig & David: ------------------------------- The following frames were taken with cartridge 9 and the "sparsely plugged" plate: 34891 bias 34892 10 second flat 34893 50 second flat 34894 bias 34895 bias 34896 40 second arc (HgCd + Ne) 34897 bias 34898 bias 34899 180 second arc (HgCd + Ne) 34900 bias 34901 bias Note that the enclosure was not fully dark, since it was still broad daylight outside. The frames are in /data/spectro/53692 on 'host2 and sos. Mirrors homed/relaxed: ---------------------- The primary mirror was homed and relaxed. The secondary mirror was homed. The mirror numbers after the homing/relaxing are recorded in the Mirrors section of the log. The numbers all look fine. I'm guessing this is due to some of the iop/sop work done in regards to PR 6719. Eric? Since there have been a lot of dithered flats done recently, it was decided to move on and leave this task for another time. There were problems with the secondary dewar pressure for sp2. Jim Gunn called. French was on site and checked into the problem. The gauge on the secondary dewar for sp2 was reading 0 psi. French forced a fill from the 180 l dewar and this brought the pressure back to normal. A secondary fill (cc startfillseq) was issued after the primary fill completed and this brought the cold head back into spec. French then swapped out the 180 l spectro dewar and did a manual fill from the 180 l dewar to guarantee that the secondary dewars were both full. Biases were obtained (frames 34909 thru 34933). All 4 cameras from frame 34924 were displayed and visually inspected. No abnormalities were noticed. The histogram was plotted and it looked normal. The histogram and percentiles were printed out and filed in the spectro monthly checkout logbook.
