APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday March 22, 2006 (MJD 53817) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: John Barentine Night: Mike Harvanek Dan Long ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Blowing snow and occasionally high wind and humidity kept us closed all night. We had a couple CCD55 VS+ glitches even after the power supply swap this afternoon. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon --------- Checkout was started early (~19:00Z) to enable your humble correspondent to make it to Santa Fe for the collaboration meeting before the snow made driving conditions particularly treacherous. On attempting a postCalib for spectro focus check purposes, I got this error: There already is a teamster, PID 20154, owned by long The running teamster is too old, but cannot be stopped automatically due to permissions problems. Please get rid of the running teamster! I had to use an open SOP session on Dan's terminal to send the old teamster to the Meadowlands. We had a "vs+" Watcher error on CCD55 at 19:42Z. During the test bias taken with the imager, the scrolling displays stopped abruptly at Frame 10 of Run 6060. The message in my IOP session read: 2006-03-22 19:48:55Z: No heartbeat found from id1 in last 500 of murmur log 2006-03-22 19:48:55Z: 2006-03-22 19:48:55Z: Murmur not working for all id1 node - Losing information!! The same error repeated for all the id nodes and ad2 and ad4. I ended the drift formally in IOP, and then rebooted the photo and astro crates. The makeRunLog failed on Run 6060 with this error: makeRunLog failed for run 6060. I have the following diagnostics plus check the murmur log and your screen history: Not enough elements to do sigma After the reboot I started up another doghouse bias run (6061). The servers appeared to die on their own at 20:00Z while the new bias was underway. Spectro focus numbers are in the Problems section. Night ----- 00:30Z Blowing snow may delay opening. 04:02Z Fans On, Louvers Open 06:00Z Blowing snow still remains a problem at the level of the 2.5m. Wind speeds are averaging around 15 to 20 MPH, but it is the 25 to 30 MPH gusts every few minutes that are the problem, picking snow up off the ground and swirling it around. And (Hi Steve) of course the with the wind direction being NNE, there is a lot of ground higher than the telescope, not very far upwind. 08:13Z VS+ on ccd 55 again. Numbers look fine, as do the plots. 10:50Z Another CCD 55 VS+ ding. Says 7.05 like it did before and is within a few hundredths of the other CCDs. 11:10Z Fans Off, Louvers Closed. 11:15Z endNight finished. 11:25Z Blowing snow did delay opening ... until tomorrow. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6060 19:49Z 19:53Z 100 O -173.41 -172.34 11 ignore 6061 19:58Z 20:16Z 100 O -171.12 -166.56 42 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):fwiw QA Procedures Done (y/n):fwiw UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 38159, plate -9999 ------- 18:51 38159 0.0 bias 18:54 38160 0.0 bias ----- sequence 38161, plate 2431 ------- 19:03 38161 10.0 flat 19:05 38162 2.0 arc 19:09 38163 2.1 arc 19:11 38164 2.1 arc 19:24 38165 2.1 arc 19:26 38166 2.1 arc 19:41 38167 2.1 arc 19:43 38168 2.1 arc ----- sequence 38169, plate -9999 ------- 00:09 38169 0.0 bias 01:57 38170 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 19:00Z disconnected 0.99999 99 1509 170 121 30.0 -5.2 17 236 01:58Z disconnected 1.00000 0 1258 0 121 30.0 -5.6 16 24 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 17:42Z 21 21 16 241 (WSW) 1640 - Lt Snow 18:17Z 21 21 19 229 (SW) 6660 - Lt Snow 18:50Z 22 21 22 208 (SSW) 1653 - Snow 19:20Z 21 20 12 260 (W) 1433 - Snow 19:51Z 20 20 9 329 (NNW) 1288 - Snow 20:21Z 20 18 12 318 (NW) 790 - Lt Snow 20:52Z 21 16 4 328 (NNW) 801 - Lt Snow 23:03Z 23 14 1 328 (NNW) 763 - Flurries 23:36Z 24 13 25 314 (NW) 528 - Blowing Snow 00:08Z 23 15 12 350 (NNW) 506 - Blowing Snow 00:40Z 24 16 13 338 (NNW) 429 - Blowing Snow 01:12Z 22 16 21 7 (N) 527 - Blowing Snow 01:44Z 22 16 25 20 (NNE) 552 - Blowing Snow 02:16Z 22 17 9 357 (NNW) 605 - Blowing Snow 02:48Z 21 17 14 17 (NNE) 584 - Blowing Snow 03:21Z 23 15 26 18 (NNE) 748 - Blowing Snow 03:53Z 24 14 14 9 (N) 977 - Blowing Snow 04:25Z 25 13 14 11 (N) 957 - Blowing Snow 04:57Z 25 13 17 10 (N) 1579 - Blowing Snow 05:29Z 25 14 5 16 (NNE) 1292 - Blowing Snow 06:01Z 25 13 17 20 (NNE) 1185 - Blowing Snow 06:33Z 26 14 17 23 (NNE) 1231 - Blowing Snow 07:03Z 25 14 14 11 (N) 1243 - Blowing Snow 07:34Z 25 14 21 20 (NNE) 1299 - Blowing Snow 08:04Z 25 16 22 21 (NNE) 1240 - Blowing Snow 08:34Z 26 18 17 21 (NNE) 2011 - Blowing Snow 09:04Z 25 18 17 35 (NE) 1913 - Blowing Snow 09:36Z 25 17 21 32 (NNE) 1871 - Blowing Snow 10:08Z 24 17 13 40 (NE) 1695 - Blowing Snow 10:38Z 24 16 15 55 (NE) 1622 - Blowing Snow 11:09Z 24 15 20 32 (NNE) 1630 - Blowing Snow ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 04:02Z Fans On, Louvers Open, Doors remain closed 11:10Z Louvers Closed, Fans Off.
