APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday June 11, 2006 (MJD 53898) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington (observer) Jian Ge (ET) Roger Cohen (ET) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Although Landru turned into a pumpkin at midNight (i.e., locked-up), we were still able to finish seven Carts/Plates. Guide fiber #4 of cart 08 looked dirty. At ~05:26Z, we got a Watcher report about our GPS as follows: Extra GPS pulse? NIST sec = 999796 (2006-06-12 05:25:27Z sdssmcp) (Extra GPS pulse? NIST_sec = 999796 (2006-06-12 05:25:27Z sdssmcp): 2006-06-12 05:25:41Z) We had windScreen touches in Alt and Az; see Problems Section for Watcher reports. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ----------- No problems discovered during the afternoon checkout. The Imager and Spectro dewars were changed. Night: --------- 02:07Z Pulled the building under photometric skies. 02:56Z Cart 08, plate 8024. An Fk5 star was used to find the field. Alt=43 degrees, temp=19.4, seeing=1.3" and dust=1.3K. Guide fiber #4 of this cartridge looks dirty. One fifty minute exposure was completed. 04:16Z Cart 09, plate 8025. An Fk5 star was used to find the field. Alt=41, temp=19.1, seeing=1.4" and dust=1.2K Completed one forty-minute exposure. 05:07Z Cart 04, plate 8026. Found guide stars on goToField. Alt=62, temp=18.6, seeing=1.0" and dust=1.1K. 05:26Z Watcher reported the following: Extra GPS pulse? NIST sec = 999796 (2006-06-12 05:25:27Z sdssmcp) (Extra GPS pulse? NIST_sec = 999796 (2006-06-12 05:25:27Z sdssmcp): 2006-06-12 05:25:41Z) Although Cart 04 was completed with one fifty-minute exposure, Landru locked-up at the end of the exposure. I had to switch to Monx-Mike to start the following exposure on Cart 06. I estimated that ~fifteen minutes were lost as I moved to the Monx computer and rebooted Landru. 06:20Z Cart 06, Plate 8021. An Fk5 star was used to find the field. Alt=80, temp=18.2, seeing=1.1" and dust=.7K A fifty minute exposure was completed for this plate. 07:14Z Midnight ET cals were done at this time, which gave me the opportunity to switch back to Landru. 07:32Z Cart 05, plate 8027. An Fk5 star was used to find the field. Alt=74 degrees, temp=18.1, seeing=1.4" and dust=.5K A fifty minute exposure was completed for this plate. 08:36Z Cart 03, Plate 8028. Found guide stars with goToField. Alt=77 degrees, temp=17.0, seeing=1.4" and dust=.9K. A fifty minute exposure was completed for this plate. 09:45Z Cart 01, Plate 8029. An Fk5 star was used to find the field. Alt=76 degrees, temp=17.4, seeing=1.3" and dust=1.3K.A fifty minute exposure was completed for this plate. Misc Watcher messages are posted in the Problems section. endNight finished and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 39654, plate -9999 ------- 00:16 39654 0.0 bias 00:20 39655 0.0 bias 07:17 39657 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 00:20Z 8 0 1.00000 -1481 -144 0 121 30.0 22.4 7 232 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:18Z 75 30 7 209 (SSW) 1262 - 23:51Z 75 30 14 238 (WSW) 1296 - 00:22Z 72 28 9 229 (SW) 1336 - 00:53Z 73 29 12 257 (WSW) 1400 - 01:23Z 70 26 9 240 (WSW) 1319 - 01:54Z 68 24 8 258 (WSW) 1164 - 02:25Z 65 22 10 239 (WSW) 1258 - 02:56Z 67 23 9 265 (W) 1258 - 03:27Z 66 23 10 265 (W) 1290 - 03:58Z 66 23 6 258 (WSW) 1242 - 04:28Z 66 21 7 262 (W) 1338 - 05:01Z 65 21 9 265 (W) 1181 - 06:57Z 64 20 7 20 (NNE) 790 - 07:28Z 64 19 6 2 (N) 667 - 07:58Z 63 19 7 1 (N) 798 - 08:31Z 63 18 7 20 (NNE) 1059 - 09:01Z 61 15 7 18 (NNE) 955 - 09:31Z 62 18 6 337 (NNW) 898 - 10:02Z 63 19 7 328 (NNW) 1339 - 10:34Z 65 21 2 351 (NNW) 1302 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:10Z Doors cracked, louvers opened, fans on. 02:07Z Pulled the Enclosure Enclosure on, doors and louvers closed, fans off. 10:57Z Telescope at 121,30,00 mount; CW at 250 LN2 connected and turned on; spectros forced filled Imager 200lbs 19psi Spectro 276lbs 21psi ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v4_24_0b Watcher: v2_34_0 MCP: v6_3_2 TPM: tpm_v3_3_0 AstroDa: v15_12_1 TCC: TCC 2.7.2.1 August 6 2004 sdssProcedures: SoS: v5_1_4 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A -5.8570 -5.8440 Axial B -5.6840 -5.6770 Axial C 0.9400 0.9420 Trans D -9.9990 -9.9940 Lateral E 10.3505 10.3759 Lateral F 11.9380 11.9380 GALILS Commanded: 4700. -2450. 3000. -7800. 3300. 3000.
