APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday June 30, 2006 (MJD 53917) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Days: Dan Long Night: Steph Snedden Elena Malanushenko ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The weather was good this night. We finished 5 plates (2547,2133,2165,2534,2537) and obtain some data on plate 2198. The cartridge elevator is broken and we called Steve. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- I had to restart the servers this afternoon. The watcher was complaining of not receiving information from all instruments. The server windows were still showing on MONX3, but the last time stamp in all of them was about 21:20Z and the time I saw this was about 21:45Z. The restart worked and there were no further complaints from the watcher regarding the servers. Spectro focus was tweaked, best focus now about 12 C. See problems section for details. 01:20Z Doors Open, Fans On. Night: ------ Weather condition: heavy grey clouds are around mnt, no rain. On our site it is clear enough for spectroscopy, not photometric. Humidity 54%, Temp 14C, wind 17 mph, dust 600. 2:30Z Opened Cart 5, plate 2547, 1:49-6:19, seguefaint. Plate has previous signal: 39.9; 40.8; 33.0; 41.1 Used FK5 to find the guider stars. 3:35 Pre-calibration. 3:41, 4:09 Science (1500 sec exposure). The plate is "DONE" woth today's s/n=16.6. The clouds are stronger now, the efficiency is dropped. Cart6, plate 2133, chunk. It is valid until 5:57. Used FK5 to find guider stars, it may be caused by clouds. 4:51 Pre-calibration. 4:58,5:20,5:38 - Science The plate is DONE with total s/n=17.6. Started to clear. Cart 2, plate 2165. Chunk. 01:27-07:27, FSGTF. 6:07 - pre-calibration. 6:14, 6:31, 6:49, 6:58 - science. The plate is DONE with s/n=15.8. 7:20. Cart 1, plate 2189. The plate will expire soon, at 7:36, but we have only two carts left for rest of the night so we mount the cart even for only one exposure. Used FK5 to find Guider Stars. We are doing science first and after that calibration. 7:27 - science with 1200 sec exposure. 7:50 - calibration. We forced the reduction and got s/n=5.2 We should CONTINUE the plate. 8:00 Cart 9, plate 2534. We observed the plate yesterday. The plate had abort during processing bacause of saturation on most of fibers. Based on Brian's suggestions we decreased exposure time and did several short observations. We continue series of short exposures today to finish the plate. The s/n's values are less then 2.0 and we use exposure time for evaluation. 8:08 Pre-Calibration. 8:15, 8:22, 8:30 - science with 300 sec exposure. 8:38, 8:51 science with 600 sec exposure. We declare this plate DONE. 9:09 Cart 8, plate 2537. The plate has a distinctive guide star pattern that Elena recognized as one she had already observed. She found that we observed it already on June 19. We asked Brian to evaluate the plate's signal at that time. After his answer that the plate was DONE it was unplugged. We think that nobody declared it done in the database and it continued to be in the database. So, in several days it was requested to be plugged again. For now, we do not have another plate for observation and we do several exposures on this plate. 9:23 Pre-calibration 9:29,9:42 - science, 600 9:56, 10:04, 10:12 - science, 300 10:19 - science, 600 10:34 Post-calibrations An email was sent to Brian requesting that we establish a policy for declaring plates done in the database when he has to evaluate them. The cartridge lift stopped moving when we tried to replace the last cartridge of the night. We checked that poewer was reaching the relays (we could hear clicking) and tried moving the lift with the manual lift buttons, but that did not work, either. When Cathy called, we asked her to relay this info to Steve, who is on-call. We replaced cart 8 with cart 7, because other cartridgess on the level that we could reach with the manipulator have to be replugged. 11:10 Telescoep is closed. 12:00Z endNight finished ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6230 21:26Z 21:37Z 100 O -50.50 -47.83 32 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 40019, plate -9999 ------- 21:27 40019 0.0 bias ----- sequence 40020, plate 2547 ------- 21:38 40020 10.0 flat 21:40 40021 2.0 arc 21:49 40022 2.1 arc 21:52 40023 2.1 arc 22:13 40024 2.1 arc 22:16 40025 2.1 arc ----- sequence 40026, plate -9999 ------- 23:39 40026 0.0 bias ----- sequence 40027, plate -9999 ------- 01:40 40027 0.0 bias ----- sequence 40028, plate 2547 ------- 03:37 40028 10.0 flat 03:39 40029 2.0 arc 04:08 40030 1500.1 target 04:36 40031 1500.1 target ----- sequence 40032, plate 2133 ------- 04:53 40032 10.0 flat 04:56 40033 2.0 arc 05:20 40034 1200.1 target 05:38 40035 900.1 target 05:55 40036 900.1 target ----- sequence 40037, plate 2165 ------- 06:10 40037 10.0 flat 06:12 40038 2.0 arc 06:31 40039 900.2 target 06:48 40040 900.1 target 07:14 40041 1400.1 target ----- sequence 40042, plate 2198 ------- 07:49 40042 1200.1 target 07:52 40043 10.0 flat 07:54 40044 2.0 arc ----- sequence 40045, plate 2534 ------- 08:10 40045 10.0 flat 08:12 40046 2.0 arc 08:22 40047 300.1 target 08:30 40048 300.1 target 08:37 40049 300.1 target 08:50 40050 600.1 target 09:03 40051 600.1 target ----- sequence 40052, plate 2537 ------- 09:26 40052 10.0 flat 09:28 40053 2.0 arc 09:41 40054 600.1 target 09:54 40055 600.1 target 10:03 40056 300.1 target 10:11 40057 300.1 target 10:19 40058 300.1 target 10:31 40059 600.1 target 10:36 40060 10.0 flat 10:38 40061 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:33Z 5 2547 190.56 0.0014 63.86 0.0012 16.89 -0.0078 1.000080 04:59Z 6 2133 266.66 -0.0059 63.71 0.0028 103.00 -0.0034 1.000180 06:20Z 2 2165 277.78 -0.0070 59.18 0.0014 114.13 0.0111 1.000030 07:29Z 1 2198 284.81 -0.0030 48.46 0.0034 122.46 -0.0182 1.000180 08:16Z 9 2534 -61.97 -0.0065 68.98 0.0013 127.04 0.0023 1.000050 09:43Z 8 2537 171.47 0.0012 52.42 0.0019 -20.89 -0.0208 1.000100 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:33Z 5 2547 1.00008 -790 514 25 191 63.9 13.7 11 82 -- 1.2 04:58Z 6 2133 1.00018 -1778 -303 25 267 63.8 13.3 16 114 -- 1.2 06:20Z 2 2165 1.00003 -296 909 0 278 59.2 12.7 12 114 -- 1.6 07:29Z 1 2198 1.00018 -1778 -256 30 285 48.5 11.9 16 126 -- 1.5 08:15Z 9 2534 1.00005 -494 754 30 -62 69.1 11.1 14 108 -- 1.7 09:43Z 8 2537 1.00010 -988 406 50 171 52.4 12.8 10 76 -- 2.0 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 19:56Z 56 50 9 157 (SSE) 659 - Light Rain 20:28Z 56 49 2 92 (E) 589 - Mostly Cloudy 21:00Z 56 49 7 167 (SSE) 605 - Mostly Cloudy 21:32Z 60 49 1 195 (SSW) 532 - Partly Cloudy 22:04Z 63 51 9 217 (SW) 506 - Partly Cloudy 22:34Z 59 49 0 317 (NW) 505 - Mostly Cloudy 23:05Z 59 49 0 224 (SW) 556 - Mostly Cloudy 23:37Z 65 52 2 255 (WSW) 492 - Mostly Cloudy 00:09Z 63 43 11 140 (SE) 471 - Partly Cloudy 00:41Z 62 41 7 103 (ESE) 450 - Mostly Clear 01:13Z 62 42 7 92 (E) 486 - Mostly Clear 02:08Z 58 41 12 84 (E) 490 - 02:38Z 58 40 12 88 (E) 516 - 03:09Z 57 40 10 89 (E) 501 - 03:40Z 56 40 9 88 (E) 533 - 04:13Z 56 40 13 108 (ESE) 610 - 04:44Z 55 40 16 111 (ESE) 605 - 05:14Z 55 40 15 118 (ESE) 597 - 05:45Z 55 40 10 105 (ESE) 625 - 06:15Z 54 40 13 125 (SE) 621 - 06:46Z 55 40 9 89 (E) 646 - 07:16Z 54 43 13 122 (ESE) 696 - 07:47Z 52 46 14 115 (ESE) 768 - 08:17Z 52 46 14 111 (ESE) 676 - 08:48Z 54 43 10 89 (E) 640 - 09:18Z 54 42 9 82 (E) 665 - 09:48Z 55 41 8 76 (ENE) 665 - 10:19Z 53 44 15 129 (SE) 641 - 10:51Z 53 46 10 113 (ESE) 621 - 11:23Z 52 46 9 128 (SE) 624 - 11:55Z 53 46 10 144 (SE) 616 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:20Z Doors Open, Fans On. 02:30Z Opened enclosure. 11:10Z Closed for the night.
