APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday August 11, 2006 (MJD 53959) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan Support: Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Monthly checkout ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- PT FF lamp was replaced, and normal sequences of bias and flats were taken and compared with frames took before summer shutdown. A sequence of imager doghouse bais were taken and examined, they are normal. A few spectro bias were taken. examination shows that the bias level of b1 is out of spec. guiding camera communication was checked. Mirroes were home/relaxed. weather conditions and left engineering work prevent me from doing other monthly checkout tasks. Problems: (1) Watcher gives the critical error: exec_boot. (2) SP2 shutter sensors are off. (3) CCD 4 temperature is out of its nominal range. (4) the bias level of b1 is more than 10 time higher than its normal value. (5) the display of instrument lift can NOT be turned off. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Setting up: When I started a watcher session from MONX 3 this afternoon, an error message of cannot read errorFlags came out while the session was successfully launched. However, everything was fine when I started another watcher session from host2. PT: FF lamp was replaced, normal sequences of bias and dome flats were taken, and compared with corresponding sequences taken before summer shutdown. weather prevent me performing other checkouts. Imager monthly checkout: When the first goDrift -bias was issued, it returned with an error of voltage amplifier setting improperly. "iack" and "setImagerAmpsOn" solved the problem. A doghouse bias run was taken (run # 6246), Frames look normal on displays. A few frames were checked with saodisplay and they are normal. Lighting threatening prevents me from flat check. Spectro monthly checkout: The engineer team is still working on the communication between arc lamps and SOP session. This limited my checkout tasks. Watcher gives a critical error: exec_boot, an iack command was issued. It did not solve the problem. Watcher complaints about sp2 shutter off, mechSend s for sp2 returned both shutter_open_sensor and shutter_closed_sensor are off. Watcher also complaints on ccdtemp on CCD4. I monitored the temperature from this afternoon with "cc # tcheck", and found CCD 4 temperature is increasing: from -84 (at 4:30PM) to -82 (9:00PM). French knows this. A few spectro bias were taken, and checked with saodisplay. It turned out that bias frames of b2, r1, and r2 are normal. But the bias level of b1 is about 17900, 15 times higher than its normal values. Guiding camera communication was checked with gcam, and it works properly. Mirrors are home/relaxed. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 40235, plate -9999 ------- 02:11 40235 0.0 bias 02:14 40236 0.0 bias 02:20 40237 0.0 bias 02:26 40238 0.0 bias 02:48 40239 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Telescope stowed at 30 degrees with cartridge 5 mounted.
