APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday September 7, 2006 (MJD 53986) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Steph Snedden Jian Ge (UF) Pengchang Guo (UF) Support: French Leger Craig Loomis ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- High humidity Clouds No science yet again. Spectro manual fill done at 10:01Z ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- French replaced the 75 degree fiducial block today. He is too precise for his own good. He got the block placed with about a 600 tick error from the previous position. Unfortunately, our error tolerance is 600 ticks. When I forced the fiducial correction at the 30-degree fidcial then slewed upward, the error at the 75 degree fiducial was 597 ticks, so an auto-correction was made. However, when I slewed back down, all the lower altitude fiducials had errors just over 600 ticks, so no corrections were made. The net result: a 2 asec offset in altitude. Craig and I chewed on this a bit. We can work around the problem until we get the new crossing data before shakedown. I have changed the current mcp-fiducials alt.dat file so that the fiducial 5 entry is: 5 0 +- -9999.0 0 0 +- -9999.0 0 Now there will be no corrections made when crossing the 75 degree fiducial. The original file is now called alt.old (in v1_52). The spectro autofill is currently offline. The good news is it looks like the culprit is the Schmitt trigger comparator (thanks engineering crew). The bad news is a replacement IC has to be found or bought. Until it is delivered and installed, we will have to make manual spectro fills. Night: ------ Clouds, high humidity and nearby radar returns at sunset. Deja vu. The forecasters are talking about the monsoon season ending soon. Sure can't see it from here yet. 08:45Z Humidity drops enough that I open the doors and start ventilating the enclosure. It is still too cloudy to work, so we don't open. Just being able to open the doors feels like a small victory. 11:02Z A lovely sucker hole opened but the humidity began to climb. It was also at the point of no return, where we did not have enough time to get useful data before twilight. 11:25Z We closed and endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6304 23:30Z 23:42Z 100 O 48.65 51.73 35 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): n QA Procedures Done (y/n):n UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 40588, plate -9999 ------- 23:37 40588 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:42Z 51 49 12 177 (S) 683 - Cloudy 22:14Z 53 46 10 217 (SW) 563 - ' 22:47Z 53 47 10 181 (S) 570 - ' 23:19Z 52 48 11 195 (SSW) 615 - ' 23:51Z 51 46 7 176 (S) 607 - ' 00:23Z 50 46 9 125 (SE) 554 - ' 00:55Z 49 42 8 144 (SE) 371 - ' 01:27Z 50 44 15 179 (S) 561 - ' 01:59Z 49 41 11 159 (SSE) 323 - ' 02:32Z 50 44 11 179 (S) 503 - ' 03:04Z 49 47 15 148 (SSE) 819 - ' 03:36Z 49 47 15 153 (SSE) 866 - ' 04:08Z 49 47 13 142 (SE) 794 - ' 04:40Z 49 46 16 147 (SSE) 760 - ' 05:12Z 49 45 12 146 (SE) 709 - ' 05:45Z 48 45 17 137 (SE) 711 - ' 06:17Z 48 46 16 138 (SE) 843 - ' 06:49Z 48 44 15 145 (SE) 734 - ' 07:21Z 47 43 20 133 (SE) 538 - ' 07:53Z 48 43 14 135 (SE) 579 - ' 08:25Z 47 42 16 140 (SE) 581 - Most cloudy 08:57Z 47 41 14 174 (S) 523 - ' 09:30Z 47 42 13 156 (SSE) 521 - ' 10:00Z 47 43 13 172 (S) 547 - ' 10:30Z 47 43 11 160 (SSE) 526 - ' 11:00Z 46 42 15 168 (SSE) 513 - Part cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 08:49Z Opened doors, started ventilating. 11:26Z Closed doors, turned off ventilation.
