The 10 L dewars apparently ran dry in less than 8 hours (at least for sp1). I took three spectro darks 40907 - 40909 as a test of feasibility of gathering them while imaging under moonless conditions. It would be interesting to compare these to a set taken in the enclosure some cloudy night this run. Seeing not great, but good enough (1.2 - 1.6). 01:57Z Twilight lambda 112, frame 39, start of ramp. 03:00Z I took three spectro darks (40907-9), to see if it was feasible to take them under moonless conditions with the telescope in the open and no cartridge mounted (i.e. while imaging). The percentiles in SoS looked as they should but I haven't examined the images or plotted the histograms. 04:10Z Patchy high cloud approaching from the west, but still clear where the imager is looking. 05:37Z Patchy high cloud now showing up where we're looking around lambda 167, frame 404 06:12Z Thicker patches passing through now. lambda 176, frame 463 Seeing poorer too. Median around 1.6 06:25Z Clearer skies again. lambda -178, frame 497 06:47Z Another wave lambda -175 frame 524 07:10Z Clear again lambda -169 frame 564 07:25Z Getting secondary dewar pressure warnings on sp1. A check of the pressure gauge on the 10 L dewar shows it at about 3 PSI. LN2 temps and CCD temps still okay. Will not stop scan to pressurize/fill the 10 L just yet. Maybe a primary fill just finished and the 10 L will recover pressure. Will keep an eye on it. 07:52Z sp1's 10 L dewar has recovered pressure to about 7 PSI. I guess it was a primary fill that lowered it. Not sure why so much though. 08:32Z Another sp1 secondary dewar pressure warning along with ln2 empty. 08:38Z Another band of high cloud moving through lambda -147, frame 711 08:54Z Got to pay attention to sp1. r1 is starting to warm. Ending drift, lambda -144, frame 735. 09:00Z Connected 180 L to pressurize the 10 L dewars. I then planned to force a primary fill sequence, but before I could the 10 L dewars started filling. If this is a real empty signal, then they didn't even last 8 hours. If that is the case then either they didn't fill completely when we opened tonight, or r1 is using a lot of LN2. The 10 L dewars took about 30 lb or not quite a complete fill, so maybe only sp1's dewar was really empty. Once the fill completed I gave sp1 a series of 3 stop/start fillseqs over the course of 15 minutes. The CCD had warmed about 12 C from nominal so hadn't warmed too much. Hopefully this gets the dewar cold enough to hold a full charge and get back on track or at least get through the rest of the night. CCD 4 temp back to nominal at 09:45Z. Note that sp1's 10 L pressure never got above 6 PSI after the refill and sp2's was about 12 PSI. I'm not sure how accurate the gauges are, but that's a pretty big difference. 09:27Z Run 6448 82 S -147 to -117 frames (8 - 207) Skippy and focus happy from the start.
