Completed eleven ET pointings and exposures, using eight cartridges. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Pre-shake: ----------- Spetro Monthly Checkout I checked the Xmin/Xmax settings and the waveMin/waveMax settings. I also checked/adjusted the spectro collimation. And, I did an apo_plotbias. The collimation and bias results are posted in the Problems Section. I looked at images of the bias, flat, and arc results. The cloud camera was VERY unhappy tonight. As a test, I plugged the output of the new camera directly into a video monitor. The image from the camera was bad, so that means we could have a bad camera, a problem with the camera's control box, or the camera's power supply. Because Wendell and I installed a new power supply before we purchased this new camera, I do not think the PS could be the problem. I will work with Wendell tomorrow and do more trouble shooting. Night: ----- The conditions were mostly cloudy with an east wind - not promising. We decided to give it a try anyway. 01:14Z - Cartridge 8, plate 8032. GSOGTF. One 50 minute exposure, but the flux was low. 02:11Z - Cartridge 1, plate 8033. GSOGTF when the offsets from previous nights were applied. One 50 minute exposure with low flux. 03:15Z - Cartridge 4, plate 8030. GSOGTF with cleared offsets. The clouds were thicker and the guide stars were faint. Centroiding was problematic. One 50-minute exposure. 04:21Z - Cartridge 1, plate 8033. Seeing is better and the clouds are thinner.. GSOGTF with offsets from previous nights applied. One fifty minute exposure. 05:23Z - Cartridge 2, plate 8018. GSOGTF with offsets cleared. Seeing better, still thin clouds. 06:28Z - Cartridge 6, plate 8016. GSOGTF. Clouds thinner, but seeing not great. One 50 minute exposure. 07:32Z - Cartridge 7, plate 8017. GSOGTF. Clouds are almost gone, but seeing is still moderately poor. One 50 minute exposure. 08:40Z - Cartridge 2, plate 8018. 3 guide stars in one small area. The guider didn't bring any other guide stars into the fibers. After doing an offset in alt we saw a few guide stars in a different part of the plate, and the guider was able to converge to the solution, with large rotator offsets. Could have been a problem because we were at 81 deg alt and the rotator was moving fast. One 50 minute exposure. 10:00Z - Cartridge 3, plate 8024. GSOGTF. Mostly clear, seeing poor. One 50 minute exposure. 11:00Z - Cartrige 7, plate 8017. No GSOGTF :( Used an educated guess offset and acquired the field. Seeing a little better. One 50 minute exposure. 12:00Z - Cartridge 5, plate 8025. GSOGTF. Mostly clear still. Seeing better. One 50 minute exposure. 12:00Z - Spectrograph 2 ran dry and threw a fill fault error. We had the exposure started and we chose to monitor the LN2 temp and CCD temp carefully, but continue the exposure. The r2 LN2 temp started to climb (but stayed less than 110K) as the exposure was ending, but the CCD temp was at nominal and stable. 13:19Z - Gave the spectrographs the fill they wanted. endNight rejoiced.
