APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday March 28, 2007 (MJD 54188) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek Justin Crepp Suvrath Mahadevan French Leger (support - by phone) Dan Long (support - by phone) Kaike Pan - support Fritz Stauffer (support - by phone) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- 7 exposures on 5 ET plates: 8018 (50 minutes), 8025 (50 minutes), 8026 (50 minutes, 30 minutes), 8021 (50 minutes), 8022 (2 x 50 minutes). The current iop (v4_31_0) was used tonight. There were no problems with the guider. We suspect one of the altitude amplifiers is bad. It's been an honor and a privilege to work on the SDSS, Segue, SN and ET projects. I am grateful for the opportunity and the experience. Best wishes for continued success. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- 01:45Z Ventilation started (the dust counts were very high earlier). No problems to report. Night: ------ 02:00Z Enclosure off. When sop was started, it complained that the teamster was too old and that it should be stopped. I tried to kill it but it wouldn't go away because the parent process was still alive. Thus, it would not let me start a new teamster. Dan Long and then Fritz Stauffer were called. The parent process was tracked down and then killed and I was finally able to start a new spectro teamster. There were also problems with information (focus, offsets, spectro summary, weather, mirror numbers) not making it into the log. After restarting the teamster, I exited and then restarted the log but information was still not making it into the log. All the information except for the weather was obtained and entered by hand. The first 2.5 hours were lost due to an ET instrument problem followed by a telescope problem. The ET instrument was apparently bumped sometime during the afternoon and the ET guys needed to restore the interferometer phase. When they were ready to go on sky, we attempted to move the telescope to 90 but the altitude aborted repeatedly. French was called and we got the telescope functional again. We suspect the problem is with one of the altitude amplifiers. Currently, we are running on one altitude motor - the altitude motor directly behind the telescope laptop (alt 2) has its burndy connector disconnected and is not in use. French is aware of all the details of this situation. 04:29Z Plate 8018, cartridge 2: An FK5 was needed to acquire the field. Seeing was wretched (3" - 7"). One 50 minute exposure was obtained. 05:43Z Plate 8025, cartridge 5: Guide stars on the gotoField. Seeing was between 2" and 3+". One 50 minute exposure obtained. 06:48Z Plate 8026, cartridge 1: Guide stars on the gotoField. Seeing was 2+". One 50 minute exposure obtained. 08:05Z Plate 8021, cartridge 8: Guide stars on the gotoField. Seeing was 2.5" to 3+". One 50 minute exposure obtained. 09:15Z Plate 8022, cartridge 7: Guide stars on the gotoField. Seeing was 2" to 3+". Two 50 minute exposures obtained. 11:20Z Plate 8026, cartridge 1: An FK5 was needed to acquire the field. Seeing was 1.5" to 2". One 30 minute exposure obtained. The current iop (v4_31_0) was used and there were no problems with the guider. The night was clear but the seeing was lousy. 12:07Z Enclosure on. The watcher warned of a vs+ error on CCD 55 sometime between 12:00Z and 12:30Z (while I was closing up). endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): N/A UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 43920, plate -9999 ------- 01:24Z 43920 0.0 bias 43921 is missing due to a DA reboot (we had to switch back to the DA version that matched the current iop) 01:27Z 43922 0.0 bias 01:47Z 43923 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 05:02Z 2 8018 243.20 -0.0020 47.41 -0.0048 96.65 0.0113 1.000000 06:02Z 5 8025 10.64 -0.0020 59.61 -0.0048 188.88 0.0113 1.000000 06:58Z 1 8026 153.21 0.0013 65.30 -0.0040 -39.79 -0.0127 1.000000 08:27Z 8 8021 88.40 -0.0019 61.70 -0.0031 251.66 -0.0054 1.000000 09:28Z 7 8022 112.49 0.0001 68.94 -0.0020 -82.33 -0.0078 1.000050 11:28Z 1 8026 223.82 -0.0019 49.57 -0.0040 79.16 -0.0078 0.999900 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 05:00Z 2 8018 1.00000 0 1313 125 243 47.8 -2.3 21 290 ---- 3.3" 06:01Z 5 8025 1.00000 0 1403 250 11 59.6 -3.7 22 281 ---- 2.2" 06:57Z 1 8026 1.00000 0 1490 350 153 65.2 -4.7 11 283 ---- 2.2" 08:26Z 8 8021 1.00000 0 1399 250 89 61.5 -4.7 19 299 ---- 2.6" 09:29Z 7 8022 1.00005 -494 974 250 113 69.1 -4.4 13 293 ---- 3.5" 11:27Z 1 8026 0.99990 988 2149 150 224 49.7 -5.7 14 308 ---- 1.6" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:38Z 34 8 22 273 (W) 8791 - clear, dusty No weather information after this possibly due to a teamster problem.
