Wind gusts were up to 40 mph in the beginning of the night and 1.0um dust counts were high all night (see Weather section), but clouds kept us closed most of the night. Due to the high dust counts we recommend that the mirrors be inspected for dust again and possibly cleaned. Thanks. 1X30-minute exposure on Cartridge 5, plate 2560, seguefaint149. Cloud Camera updates/successes: Bill adjusted the cloud camera mask and it looks great. Jon added the 2.5m pointing icon to the cloud camera images. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- The telescope has been checked and prepared for observations and all systems are functioning properly. The collimation is set for 4C. We did not begin ventilation on time due to thick clouds, nearby radar return, wind gusts up to 40 mph and 1.0um dust counts up to 3k. Night: ----- 03:20Z - Began ventilation. Doors and louvers opened, fans on. 05:10Z - 1.0um dust counts ~3k. We put the telescope down to an altitude of 6 degrees to minimize accumulation on the mirrors, but we remained ventilating. 05:52Z - Fans off, doors and louvers closed because of high dust counts (1.0um counts >3.5k) and the fact that we cannot open anyway because of clouds. 07:25Z - Watcher Error - Watcher:Camera Micros:MT:Serial - no reply (CAMCHECK: 2007-04-12 07:25:15Z). We did a "cc ping" to the camera and it came back "PING" so everything was fine. This happened again later in the night and an email was sent out, but we did two "cc ping" commands and it came back "PING," so everything was fine again and that email can be disregarded. We sent out a Reply All indicating that the everything was fine. 10:33Z - Enclosure off. 10:37Z - Cartridge 5, plate 2560, seguefaint149. Guide stars found on gotoField with last night's offsets. Pre-calib. 1X30-minute exposure. Post-calib. Seeing: 1.5" - 1.8". We had clouds move overhead during the exposure.
