APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday June 6, 2007 (MJD 54258) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Elena Malanushenko Dan Oravetz Shannon Watters (afternoon) Dimitry Bizyaev ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown & Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- High wind throughout the night. New fiducial tables v1_63 built and installed and working properly. Obtained a 41-point Pointing Model with acceptable RMS. (see log for tpoint results). This model has not been installed because we need to verify the quality of the results. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- All systems checked and working. The engineering camera is still mounted so the spectrograph focus wasn't changed (should still be set for ~12C). New fiducial tables (v1_63) were installed to replace the problematic ones from last night (yesterday's fiducial tables weren't created correctly). High wind and clouds prevented us from ventilating on time. During setup we had some problems with SoS. Jon Brinkmann fixed the problem. See the Problems section. Night: ----- 06:18Z - Began ventilation. Doors and louvers opened, fans on. 06:57Z - Enclosure off. Wind gusts dropped below 35 mph. We got set up for the pointing model, but the wind speed increased with gusts up to ~40 mph, so we closed before we began trying to collect pointing data. During the setup, the best focus we could get on the fk5 was about 8.1" along the x-axis and 6.5" along the y-axis for the two FWHM measurements from GSDataPix when "gcam dofind" was executed in the telrun session. 07:55Z - Enclosure on (high winds), but front door still open for ventilation. 09:19Z - Enclosure off. Wind gusts dropped below 35 mph. The best focus we could get this time on the fk5 was about 7.5" along each axis. 09:38Z - Started taking pointing model data. Since we only have an hour, we're using grid model: grid_8_5_27_88_T_45.dat. We obtained a 41-point Pointng Model, but did not install it because we need to verify the quality of the results. When we closed the flat field screens from the MCP, everything worked fine. 11:00Z - Enclosure on. Doors and louvers closed, fans off. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): n UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 45152, plate -9999 ------- 22:32 45152 0.0 bias 01:18 45153 0.0 bias 01:24 45154 0.0 bias 01:34 45155 0.0 bias 01:51 45156 0.0 bias 03:29 45157 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:02Z 59 23 45 251 (WSW) 2601 - Clouds 00:34Z 58 22 36 264 (W) 2709 - Clouds Between 00:34Z and 02:43Z there were still clouds and high winds. 02:43Z 55 19 25 257 (WSW) 1556 - Clouds 03:15Z 55 21 39 248 (WSW) 1568 - Clouds 03:47Z 54 21 27 250 (WSW) 1394 - Clouds 04:19Z 54 23 26 247 (WSW) 1367 - Clouds 04:52Z 53 24 30 231 (SW) 1307 - Clouds 05:24Z 52 26 26 240 (WSW) 1322 - Clouds 05:56Z 52 26 23 263 (W) 1265 - Clouds 06:28Z 51 27 27 264 (W) 1325 - Partly cloudy 07:00Z 50 28 31 256 (WSW) 1295 - Partly cloudy 07:32Z 50 26 30 254 (WSW) 1409 - Partly cloudy 08:05Z 49 23 27 267 (W) 1514 - Partly cloudy 08:37Z 48 23 35 269 (W) 1623 - Partly cloudy 09:09Z 47 24 25 268 (W) 1715 - Partly cloudy 09:41Z 46 24 28 265 (W) 1886 - Partly cloudy 10:13Z 46 24 29 269 (W) 1770 - Partly cloudy 10:45Z 45 23 33 272 (W) 1450 - Mostly clear 11:17Z 44 23 23 267 (W) 1346 - Mostly clear ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 06:18Z - Began ventilation. The initial SOP biases weren't showing up on the SoS page, nor were they copied over to the SoS computer. It turns out that there were permission issues because the authentication key was missing. Jon Brinkmann fixed the problem.
