Clouds grew thicker, dust levels went up and the seeing blew up, which ended on-sky science for the night. No spectroscopy done. We had a recurrence of the manipulator arm problem reported a few nights back, and could only move it from the lower limit by bypassing the interlocks. They are enabled again, and the arm is now working. Go figure. The imager shutter pressure in the rack in the lower enclosure is reading 70, not 80. Okay? The spectrograph 180-liter blue top dewar is not holding pressure and should be replaced in the morning. Please also keep an eye out for spectro fill errors caused by low intermediate dewar pressure. We collected about 9000 "dust-hours" tonight, so please check/CO2 clean M1, as needed. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Watcher showed id4 was unresponsive, so I rebooted the crates and everything came back happy. Ran 'byebye' on 54403. As of 22:33Z there are 39G available on /data and 591G available on /files. Spectro focus set for ~5C. 23:15Z - Began ventilation. Doors and louvers opened, fans on. Night: ------ We opened just after sunset and a bias in the enclosure for SN imaging on 82 S. 01:15Z Start drift at lambda 110 Skippy good from the beginning, but note we have a mu error of -12.6 asec 01:26 Z Start of ramp at frame 26, lambda 113 Focus Loop good by frame 27. 01:34Z Start of ramp at frame 39, lambda 115 Frame 208, lambda 140, the seeing degraded to "acceptable" 03:35Z - dust levels made a dramatic climb even though wind was from the east. Frame 228, lambda 143, the seeing went to"bad" (> 1.7asec FWHM) 04:00Z - Seeing just kept getting worse, going to 3 asec FWHM and over, and the dust was staying over 3000 particles/0.1ft^3. We watched for improvement for a bit, but when none came, we decided to close. 04:23Z - endDrift at Frame 320, lambda 157. The last good frame is 285, lambda 152. When putting cartridge 4 back into the bay preparatory to closing the cartridge bay, the manipulator arm failed to move up from the bottom limit. We had to bypass the interlocks to get the arm to move. Later, with the interlocks re-enabled, it worked fine. 05:54Z - The DIMM seeing was down to about 2 asec FWHM, but cloud cover had increased and the dust was still around 3000. We judged that we would still not obtain useful data at the expense of dusting the mirror, so we stayed closed. 06:43Z - The DIMM seeing went back up to about 3 asec FWHM. Dust counts remained elevated. Clouds were thicker. 11:39Z - We reached the point of no return as the clouds started to thin a bit and dust levels started dropping.
