APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday April 1, 2009 (MJD 54923) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan Steph Snedden Coders: Craig Loomis Robert Lupton Russell Owen David Kirkby ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- SEGUEScience! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Most of the night was lost to a combination of clouds, high wind speeds and dust. Observed plate 3298 for two exposures in poor seeing, but it is still not done. Robert, Russell, Craig and David worked on code into the night. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- Spectro focus was checked, but not adjusted. All other afternoon checkout tasks were deferred since the MCP was intermittently unavailable due to operations software development. The weather was not promising for opening, anyway. Night: ------ 01:30 - Sunset. We stayed closed with high winds, dust and clouds, and handed the telescope to Robert, Craig and Russell for continued MCP/operations software development. We had a spike in humidity for an hour as a cold front passed through. 06:50Z - Still cloudy, windy. Craig, Robert, Russell, and David finished their work and gave us back the telescope. We went to the enclosure, did some test slews, checked lamps, checked fiducial crossings etc. (usual afternoon checkout tests). The test MCP appeared to be okay for us to use if we do get to open. 08:05Z - Started enclosure ventilation 08:30Z - Clouds started clearing out, but wind still high. 10:23Z - Winds just below the limit. Opened enclosure Cartridge 5, plate 3298 - SEGUE Feb09a ====================================== 10:29Z - Guide stars on the edges of the large fibers. Seeing was poor - over 2" FWHM. Efficiency was only at 30 - 40 percent, but the first 30 minute exposure was still good. Seeing was about 3" FWHM on the second 30 minute exposure exposure, and it did not make (S/N)^2 > 2. (S/N)^2 accumulated for plate 3298 Attention: the script does not count test or bad exposures ---- logfile-54920.html ---- ---- logfile-54921.html ---- ---- logfile-54922.html ---- ---- logfile-54923.html ---- --------------------------------------------------- MJD b1 r1 b2 r2 Texp Sum --------------------------------------------------- 54920 2.9 3.0 3.7 3.8 1800.0 13.4 54920 2.6 2.8 3.5 3.1 1800.0 12.0 54920 1.8 1.9 2.2 2.3 1800.0 8.2 54921 4.0 4.0 5.0 3.0 1800.0 16.0 54921 5.0 5.0 6.0 4.0 1800.0 20.0 54921 6.0 5.0 7.0 4.0 1800.0 22.0 54921 6.0 6.0 8.0 4.0 1800.0 24.0 54921 3.0 3.0 4.0 2.0 1200.0 12.0 54923 2.5 2.6 3.0 3.5 1800.0 11.6 54923 0.8 1.2 1.0 1.3 1800.0 4.3 --------------------------------------------------- Total: 34.6 34.5 43.4 31.0 17400.0 --> 143.5 Total when ALL b,r values > 2.0: 32.0 31.4 40.2 27.4 13800.0 --> 131.0 (limit=156.5) --------------------------------------------------- 12:19Z - Closed enclosure endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 60243, plate -9999 ------- 10:20 60243 0.0 bias ----- sequence 60244, plate 3298 ------- 10:45 60244 10.0 flat 10:47 60245 2.0 arc 11:23 60246 1800.0 target 11:56 60247 1800.0 target 12:00 60248 10.0 flat 12:03 60249 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11:02Z 5 3298 -14.54 0.0011 62.52 -0.0012 167.67 0.0112 1.000070 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10:23Z 5 3298 1.00000 1 1145 0 6 63.1 -5.7 24 19 -- 2.6" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 01:53Z 36 8 34 272 (W) 8477 - Mostly cloudy 02:25Z 29 20 14 332 (NNW) 5248 - ' 02:58Z 26 23 1 251 (WSW) 2295 - ' 03:30Z 25 19 36 344 (NNW) 3511 - ' 04:02Z 25 12 16 13 (NNE) 5859 - ' 04:34Z 25 8 14 350 (NNW) 5689 - ' 05:06Z 25 5 19 342 (NNW) 5203 - ' 05:39Z 25 5 5 8 (N) 4800 - ' 06:11Z 25 1 9 309 (NW) 3706 - ' 06:43Z 25 -10 7 324 (NW) 2850 - ' 07:15Z 24 -4 25 341 (NNW) 3596 - ' 07:47Z 23 -5 17 344 (NNW) 3070 - ' 08:19Z 22 -4 20 356 (NNW) 2631 - ' 08:52Z 22 -3 23 3 (N) 2287 - ' 09:24Z 22 -2 27 352 (NNW) 1804 - ' 09:56Z 22 -2 25 41 (NE) 1359 - ' 10:26Z 21 -2 17 355 (NNW) 1158 - ' 10:56Z 22 -2 22 10 (N) 921 - Partly Cloudy 11:28Z 23 -9 22 3 (N) 809 - Mostly Clear 12:00Z 23 -8 25 356 (NNW) 784 - ' ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 08:05Z - Started enclosure ventilation. 10:24Z - Opened Enclosure 12:12Z - Closed enclosure, ventilation off Cartridge 5 mounted Counterweights at 260 No interlocks bypassed Spectro autofill connected 12:23Z - Spectro dewar 245 lb; 23 psi Imager dewar N/A ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v4_39_0 Watcher: v2_36_0 MCP: (unavailable) TPM: tpm_v3_5_0 AstroDa: v15_13_1 TCC: TCC 2.10.0 2009-01-12 sdssProcedures:v2_43 SoS: v5_1_8 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A -0.0310 -0.0280 Axial B 0.0260 0.0470 Axial C -0.0350 -0.0360 Trans D -0.7590 -0.7600 Lateral E 10.5791 10.5791 Lateral F 12.1793 12.1793 GALILS Commanded: 10450. -100. 5750. 8600. 10350. 10000.
