APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday December 27, 2009 (MJD 55193) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Viktor Malanushenko Dmitry Bizyaev Kaike Pan (afternoon) Support: Steph Snedden Criag Loomis Jon Brinkmann ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Pointing model, then MARVELS and BOSS Science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- 72 pt pointing model is completed and declared current. Marvels plates exposed: 3089 B (c. 8) - missing fibers 3,4 this side has only 3 guide fibers left alive! 3707 B (c. 4) - Missing guide fiber 10. 3358 A (c. 5) 3704 A (c. 7) ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Because of problem in finding stars and in fiducial crossing, Steph etc decided to do pointing model tonight. After checked in new fiducial tables, and rebooted MCP, we could not reconnected mcp because of version mismatch. STUI gave info:" APO.kpan 22 hub f No Target='the target named mcp is not connected'. hub startNubs mcp returned "connected refused". We noticed that this is a mcp version mismatch. On the mcp menu (after rebooted), version is v6_4_0, but our latest version(Steph found in the wiki page) is v6_6_1. Setup mcp v6_6_1 solved and rebooted mcp solved the problem. Cartridge 3 (plate 3637) disappeared from the plate DB, have to re-make it active. BOSS spectro collimations were checked with cartridge 16. b2 focus ring was moved by 19 degree. After mounted engeering camera, we found that the paraLan box in the computer roon did not have power. Jon is called and told us there should be a power cable, and it is found and plugged in. Then the guider Mac is set for engCam without problem. No other problem to report. 22:20Z started ventilation. 23:30Z MARVELS ThAr lamps on. 01:10Z enclosure off Night: ------ The night is clear, we mount engineering camera to take a point model. T ~ -3.5C 01:00Z eng. camera is mounted 01:40Z started homing and relaxing mirrors. We completed a 72 pt model with acceptable r.m.s. (~4", mostly because the seeing got worse than 2" in the middle of the process) and declare itas current. We tried many times to see the scatter plot for the model with "call a9" command but had no cuccess - we got just a blank Tek screen. * fix * use ie ia pzz1 an aw ca * fit coeff change value sigma 1 IE -0.002 -36.42 1.451 2 IA -0.001 -149.68 2.383 3 PZZ1 +0.000 -148.75 1.801 4 AN +0.000 +0.56 0.572 5 AW +0.000 -16.11 0.571 6 CA +0.003 +12.61 1.654 7 TX +1.09 8 HWCA2 -1.34 9 HWSA2 +0.57 10 HNCA1 +1.31 11 HNSA1 +0.24 12 ACEC +0.00 13 ACES -3.23 Sky RMS = 4.19 Popn SD = 4.38 * use * fit coeff change value sigma 1 IE +0.000 -36.42 2.228 2 IA +0.000 -149.68 2.451 3 PZZ1 -0.001 -148.75 7.400 4 AN +0.000 +0.56 0.764 5 AW +0.000 -16.11 0.757 6 CA +0.000 +12.61 1.809 7 TX +0.000 +1.10 3.571 8 HWCA2 +0.000 -1.34 0.987 9 HWSA2 +0.000 +0.57 1.017 10 HNCA1 +0.000 +1.31 1.140 11 HNSA1 +0.000 +0.24 1.146 12 ACEC +0.000 +0.00 1.410 13 ACES +0.000 -3.23 1.402 Sky RMS = 4.19 Popn SD = 4.64 Checked the model with 25-pt model. 06:42Z Eng. camera dismounted, cart. 8 mounted.
