APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday February 11, 2010 (MJD 55239) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dmitry Bizyaev Dan Oravetz Kaike Pan (afternoon) Support: French Leger ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Boss Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The night was lost to lots of blowing snow and periods of clouds and high humidity. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- All actors, systems, and the telescope were checked. The manipulator stopped at about 1 inch short in height when I tried to pick up cartridge 10. Then I back it up and found the manipulator can go up to the correct height without loading. I found French, he told that it was sensors on the tips of manipulator arm gave me trouble (may snow on the sensors). He cleared the sensor. It functions correctly. The telescopr aborted at about 44 degree twince when I tried to move it from 30 to 90. At the first failure, I checked around and slip switch downstair, did not found anything wrong (The interlock cartoon showed taht "alt_mtr_up_perm" when it aborted). It took two "axis init" to clear the axis, then I was able to move to 90. Then I moved it back to 30, and tried again, it aborted at the same altitude (~44). This time, I had French with me, he suggested move the telescope from MCP, it moved fine. My third try (from 30 to90) did not gave me any problem. Boss spectro collimation was checked with cartridge 17. 23:40Z started ventilation. Light bulb is burned out in lava lamp. Night: ------ The satellite and the Clear Sky Clock looked promising, but we had blowing snow and low clouds after twilight. We kept checking on things and sticking our heads out the door to see how much snow was blowing around. When the clouds began clearing, the snow blew around more. Stopped ventilating. The wind speeds picked up significantly and even though the sky was clear, the blowing snow made it feel as though it were actually snowing. 11:27Z - The wind speeds were trending downward, but still nowhere near low enough that we would consider opening (gusts still around 30 mph). 11:45Z - Turned everything off. (Still lots of blowing snow). 11:50Z - endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:20Z 26 15 16 333 (NNW) 304 - blowing snow 23:53Z 25 14 13 343 (NNW) 207 - blowing snow 00:26Z 25 13 13 327 (NNW) 296 - blowing snow 00:59Z 24 14 11 329 (NNW) 224 - blowing snow 01:31Z 24 13 5 350 (NNW) 216 - blowing snow 02:04Z 24 13 6 353 (NNW) 213 - blowing snow 02:37Z 23 11 2 70 (ENE) 172 - blowing snow 03:10Z 22 13 11 343 (NNW) 245 - blowing snow 03:43Z 22 14 24 5 (N) 228 - blowing snow 04:16Z 21 15 23 3 (N) 284 - blowing snow 04:49Z 21 15 9 359 (NNW) 235 - blowing snow 05:22Z 21 16 9 11 (N) 277 - blowing snow 05:55Z 20 15 18 350 (NNW) 326 - blowing snow 06:27Z 21 12 8 26 (NNE) 268 - blowing snow 07:00Z 20 12 22 356 (NNW) 296 - blowing snow 07:33Z 20 14 16 347 (NNW) 284 - blowing snow 08:06Z 20 14 21 29 (NNE) 369 - blowing snow 08:39Z 19 14 22 27 (NNE) 480 - blowing snow 09:12Z 20 11 30 29 (NNE) 466 - blowing snow 09:45Z 21 7 33 22 (NNE) 317 - blowing snow 10:18Z 23 3 20 27 (NNE) 296 - blowing snow 10:50Z 23 4 18 11 (N) 246 - blowing snow 11:23Z 22 5 16 11 (N) 133 - blowing snow ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- We never opened due to blowing snow, clouds, and high humidity.
