APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday April 27, 2010 (MJD 55314) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington Kaike Pan Support:Jon Brinkmann ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- MARVELS Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The first two hours are clear, then partly cloudy, cloudy. Seeing were good for the whole night. We observed following MARVELS plates: cart 8, plate 3413A, field HD88133. Possible broken fibers: 19/29, 47/48. cart 1, plate 3714B, HD118203. Possible broken fiber: 85/86. cart 8, plate 3413B, field XO-1. Possible broken fibers: 3/4, 43/44, 45/46, 111/112 cart 6, plate 3414A, field1346. observed under partly cloudy sky. cart 9, plate 3796B, field 1068. cart 7, plate 3412A, field K8. Very weak signal for 47/48 pair. cart 4, plate 3903B, field K7. Possible broken fibers: 25/26, 29/30, 31/32, 107/108, 111/112 cart 5, plate 3894B, field K15. Possible broken fibers: 31/32. Weak fiber: 7/8 Last three plates were observed under cloudy sky. We are not sure if we actaully collected more photons from scattered moon light than from target stars. Problems: 1) Please check possible light leakage on Boss R2 (see afternoon checkout section of log body). 2) MARVELS THAR lamps: We examine luxes of MARVELS Thar lamps. It seems that fluxes varies at level of ~10% according PMT. Is this consider stable? Do we need change lamps? Nathan was informed. 3)The instrument lift stopped work in auto mode when we tried to mounted cartridge 6 (see log for details). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- 23:30Z Started the checkout. 23:35Z Restarted the Watcher servers 23:40Z Turned on MARVELS ThAr lamp 23:45Z Verified that the STUI actors were happy; also checked the status We took two BOSS biases and on dark with one MARVELS cartridge mounted and doors open. SoS3 results were out of spec. Then we close doors and took another two bias exposures. SoS3 reports they are okay. Does this indicate there are some light leakage on R2. 23:46Z Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda3 142G 130G 4.5G 97% / /dev/sda1 99M 30M 64M 33% /boot /dev/sdb1 917G 842G 29G 97% /data sdssfiles1p:/data1/data 1.8T 119G 1.7T 7% /files 2.5m weather station was down. We checked interlock panel, everything there looks fine. We checked all LED lights, they are normal, nothing is flashing. We had a different problem two nights ago (latches did not work), but this time, the lift did not move up. We switch to manual mode, and it works fine there. 05:55Z started 50 min science exposure.
