APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday September 26, 2010 (MJD 55466) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington Dan Oravetz Paul Harding ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- MARVELS Science ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We lost about the first hour of the night to high humidity followed by clear skies and then mixed high clouds for about the last half of the night. We observed the following MARVELS cartridges: Cart. 4, 4099A (67,68 appears dropped/broken) Cart. 5, 3519A & B Cart. 6, 4102B (87,88 appears dropped/broken) Cart. 7, 3706B Cart. 9, 3635A (2 exposures) & B (45,46 appears dropped/broken) The spectro dewars will need to be changed. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ----------- 22:50Z Started the checkout. 23:00Z Recorded and checkout mirror numbers. 23:05Z Recorded the software versions 23:10Z Checked the actors; could not ping guider because Paul was playing with it. 23:14Z Turned on MARVELS ThAr lamp. 23:18Z [hjbrew@sdsshost2 stuiDir]$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda3 142G 132G 3.0G 98% / /dev/sda1 99M 30M 64M 33% /boot /dev/sdb1 917G 692G 179G 80% /data hub25m-p:/home - - - - /home_hub25m sdssfiles1-p:/data1/data 1.8T 157G 1.7T 9% /files sdss3@hub25m-p[1000]$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda2 95G 17G 74G 19% / /dev/sda4 793G 97G 655G 13% /home /dev/sda1 99M 19M 75M 20% /boot tmpfs 5.9G 0 5.9G 0% /dev/shm /dev/drbd1 13T 2.3T 11T 19% /data 23:20Z Checked rain sensor status 23:21Z Did 'platedb showActive' Cart 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 are present. 23:22Z Did 'gcamera status' simulate = off; temp = -40 23:23Z Checked calibs lamps. 23:28Z Did 'boss exposure bias itime=0' 23:40Z Checked the carts and bay. 00:02Z - Began ventilation. 00:06Z - Checked out upper and lower enclosure. Checked fiducials. Cleaned some moth remains off of the altitude drive surfaces. Night ===== 00:57Z - Sunset. We delayed opening because the humdity was rising steadily (81% right now). The clear sky clock gave no indication that humidity would be a problem, but the water vapor satellite shows the system to the south has pushed moist air throughout southern NM. We remained ventilating and kept an eye on things. 01:15Z - Stopped ventilation since Temp.-Dewpoint difference was 2.7C and trending downwards. 02:00Z - Opened. Force-filled the spectrographs. SP2 took ~10 min. longer to fill than SP1, I don't remember the exact times since I was at the telescope. 02:14Z - MARVELS cals. Cart. 4, 4099A, K4 ****************** 02:42Z - GSOGTF. We immediately checked the status of gcamera and found that gcamera was not connected. We restarted gcamera from stageManager and then Paul restarted the guider. We were then guiding again. 04:41Z - MARVELS cals. Cart. 5, 3519B, K14 ******************* 04:42Z - GSOGTF. 04:50Z - MARVELS science exposure. 05:42Z - MARVELS cals. We were ahead of schedule and the next field was too low in altitude so we took another exposure on this plate since the previous exposure was taken in appreciable clouds and poor seeing. 09:27Z - MARVELS science exposure. 10:18Z - MARVELS cals.
