APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday October 13, 2001 (MJD 52196) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dan Long (APO) Atsuko Nitta Kleinman (APO) Hercules French Leger (APO) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Pointing Model Science ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- M2 worked flawlessly Pointing model data taken, reduced, implemented, tested... 1.4 arcsec rms! Az fiducials better behaved, though were missing maybe 1 in 4 at the end of the night. Imager mounted with some difficulty, saddle interfering with something about 4 inches from the top. Collimation checked OK ( nominal mirror values updated ). Donut data taken Stripe 82 N imaged in good seeing from 160 to -155 Skippy showed pointing never off more than 3 arcseconds. What a pointing model! TCC halted axes once due to mcp communication problem ( around lambda -176 of 82 N scan ) so it is in two pieces ( 2649 and 2650 ). Took bright standard data on Ross 34. Attempted fast binned scan. Two out of three attempts caused DA to hang. Took one successful bias. When closing for the night FFS petals 04:30 and 06:00 failed again IOP, astroda, tccmon, tpm, mcp, and watcher were declared current. See separate shake summary for list of PRs and their status. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Hercules and his team got the telescope ready for observing around sunset. Hercules stayed with us to make sure everything behaves. They have done a Herculian job and we now have a working telescope. Pointing Model -------------- During we took two pointing models, there were no aborts or missed fiducial readings. Got a fantastic 72 point model with 1.4 arcsecond rms. The imager data later seemed to confirm this, never being more than 3 arcseconds off. Mounting the imager ------------------- After Dan implemented the pointing model, we decided to put the imager on and proceed with the rest of the shake tasks. This was the first time the imager was mounted since the telescope was put together. When mounting the imager, the saddle needed slight adjustment which Hercules did on the spot. Imaging ---------- Run 2647: Imager bias on the telescope. We ran biasGen on this run. When running biasCheck on this run, we got the following messages repeatedly. Waiting for command response from id4 (crate 2, ICC 0), data server (client 1) When I hit contrl-C, we saw a message. You should probably consider the system messed up and biasCheck resumed. The output of biasCheck is in the problem section. Was running biasCheck when we are using the imager ???? Run 2648: A scan to check collimation astroline/astroda now does fabulous job figuring out the sky background. We saw no blue backgrounds and by frame 11, all chips showed good background. PR 542: images-fits headers don't contain focus data --> checked during Run 2648 and saw proper focus values in the header. Closed the PR. We saved in-focus and out-of-focus donuts for Jim in /data/photo/optics/52196. Run 2648 Frame 60 in-focus Run 2648 Frame 66 +300 out-of-focus Run 2648 Frame 71 -300 out-of-focus After we stopped this scan, it was around midnight and we decided to do science scan since it was photometric and the seeing was good. The high priority scan was about 2.3. hrs long and could only be done if started by 00: 30. We would continue shake after we complete this scan. Run 2649 82N Frame 24, 25 rotator tweak PR 2668: Stripe number displayed incorrectly for southern stripes --> tccmon showed stripe 82N correctly. PR closed. TCC halted axes around 01:47 when it didn't get the expected command response from the MCP. The drift was ended, telescope backed up and scan restarted. Run 2650 82N No rotator tweaks. All science. Run 2651 This was the bright standard scan of Ross34. There was no obvious bright star, but the coordinate info in the header indicated that frame 24 in r' has the standard in it. The frames are in /data/photo/optics/52196. Run 2652 Failed binned bias drift. Run 2653 Successful normal bias drift. Run 2654 Successful binned bias. Run 2655 Normal binning bias drift with shutters open! Run 2656 Short bias drift ( shutters closed this time ) ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- 2647 100 O bias 163.40 167.08 39 2648 10 N engineering 174.43 -171.48 107 2649 82 N science 157.42 -174.71 198 2650 82 N science -180.82 -153.86 194 2651 82 N calibration -132.54 -132.54 53 2653 100 O ignore -108.73 -107.69 21 2654 100 O bias -106.01 -103.40 22 ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- 2648 13 4 25 -2.600 0.155 -0.100 0.100 -0.00969 2648 29 4 45 -2.700 0.877 -0.300 0.504 -0.01010 2648 30 4 43 -2.800 0.889 -0.300 0.515 -0.00997 2649 22 4 47 -1.000 0.237 -0.400 0.309 -0.00925 2649 57 4 39 -2.100 0.649 -0.200 0.492 0.00083 2649 92 4 32 -1.800 0.149 -0.100 0.130 -0.00001 2649 126 4 55 -2.100 0.357 0.000 0.336 0.00026 2649 162 4 45 -2.900 0.142 0.000 0.114 -0.00010 2650 21 4 49 -1.400 0.133 0.400 0.079 -0.00126 2650 55 4 53 -2.200 0.125 0.400 0.105 -0.00218 2650 91 4 34 -2.200 0.139 0.500 0.100 -0.00171 2650 126 4 50 -0.500 0.110 0.500 0.086 -0.00196 2650 159 4 38 -1.000 0.113 0.400 0.106 -0.00201 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- 2648 22 1 12 1.770 2.751 1.352 3.744 -0.00455 2648 22 1 24 0.903 0.926 2.488 2.492 -0.00837 2648 22 1 16 0.537 0.572 2.335 2.340 -0.00785 2648 22 1 15 0.266 0.306 2.518 2.527 -0.00847 2648 22 1 21 0.024 0.171 2.485 2.490 -0.00835 2648 22 1 12 1.770 2.751 1.352 3.744 -0.00455 2648 22 1 24 0.903 0.926 2.488 2.492 -0.00837 2648 22 1 16 0.537 0.572 2.335 2.340 -0.00785 2648 22 1 15 0.266 0.306 2.518 2.527 -0.00847 2648 22 1 21 0.024 0.171 2.485 2.490 -0.00835 2649 32 1 15 0.973 1.029 -1.195 1.239 0.00402 2649 32 1 25 1.026 1.061 -1.031 1.067 0.00347 2649 32 1 13 0.788 0.810 -0.965 0.985 0.00324 2649 32 1 21 0.225 0.383 -1.273 1.313 0.00428 2649 32 1 16 0.122 0.288 -1.030 1.088 0.00346 2649 67 1 19 1.142 1.151 -0.840 0.853 0.00283 2649 67 1 19 0.969 0.986 -0.941 0.951 0.00316 2649 67 1 24 0.637 0.685 -0.919 0.941 0.00309 2649 67 1 25 0.300 0.342 -0.893 0.918 0.00300 2649 67 1 16 0.053 0.123 -0.899 0.909 0.00302 2649 101 1 14 0.402 0.463 -1.277 1.291 0.00429 2649 101 1 15 0.403 0.504 -1.460 1.463 0.00491 2649 101 1 17 0.036 0.286 -1.540 1.552 0.00518 2649 101 1 10 -0.128 0.276 -1.527 1.532 0.00513 2649 101 1 17 -0.267 0.372 -1.522 1.537 0.00512 2649 137 1 18 0.856 0.889 -1.067 1.080 0.00359 2649 137 1 23 0.665 0.695 -1.041 1.052 0.00350 2649 137 1 22 0.417 0.445 -1.165 1.184 0.00392 2649 137 1 17 0.163 0.273 -1.143 1.153 0.00384 2649 137 1 17 -0.067 0.200 -1.142 1.172 0.00384 2649 171 1 8 0.575 0.587 -0.994 1.084 0.00334 2649 171 1 14 0.407 0.432 -0.947 0.970 0.00318 2649 171 1 11 0.128 0.149 -1.138 1.173 0.00382 2649 171 1 17 -0.200 0.224 -0.978 1.049 0.00329 2649 171 1 13 -0.486 0.493 -0.950 1.037 0.00319 2650 32 1 7 1.039 1.061 -0.414 0.438 0.00139 2650 32 1 20 0.651 0.682 -0.783 0.818 0.00263 2650 32 1 18 0.585 0.611 -0.812 0.827 0.00273 2650 32 1 14 0.354 0.393 -0.723 0.748 0.00243 2650 32 1 14 0.233 0.333 -0.656 0.687 0.00221 2650 67 1 7 0.460 0.485 -0.690 0.698 0.00232 2650 67 1 18 0.333 0.366 -0.789 0.819 0.00265 2650 67 1 24 0.079 0.166 -0.863 0.871 0.00290 2650 67 1 10 0.006 0.128 -0.533 0.560 0.00179 2650 67 1 12 -0.306 0.346 -0.586 0.643 0.00197 2650 101 1 18 1.066 1.080 -0.686 0.723 0.00231 2650 101 1 13 0.936 0.946 -0.764 0.771 0.00257 2650 101 1 15 0.654 0.683 -0.981 0.999 0.00330 2650 101 1 12 0.383 0.462 -0.826 0.847 0.00278 2650 101 1 15 0.210 0.261 -0.901 0.929 0.00303 2650 135 1 12 1.217 1.222 -0.416 0.448 0.00140 2650 135 1 11 0.876 0.893 -0.635 0.655 0.00213 2650 135 1 16 0.596 0.664 -0.739 0.773 0.00248 2650 135 1 10 0.390 0.467 -0.720 0.744 0.00242 2650 135 1 12 -0.063 0.246 -0.885 0.909 0.00298 2650 170 1 13 0.154 0.329 -1.046 1.081 0.00352 2650 170 1 15 -0.028 0.174 -0.848 0.858 0.00285 2650 170 1 15 -0.315 0.400 -0.841 0.907 0.00283 2650 170 1 15 -0.542 0.565 -0.877 0.912 0.00295 2650 170 1 18 -0.860 0.896 -0.810 0.863 0.00272 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL4499 JL4501 JL4514 JL4516 JL4517 JL4518 JL4519 Stays:JL4503 JL4504 JL4505 JL4506 JL4507 JL4515 JL4520 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- 19:44 engcam 1.00000 0 -2605 -250 14 63.0 7.5 6 339 - Left: -3.62 +/- 0.49 Right: -3.37 +/- 0.50 Axis halt: The TCC halted tracking during run 2649 so the scan of 82 N was stopped short of the goal of going from -165 to +160. It stopped around -177, so we backed up to 179 and started another drift. The halt was due to the TCC not getting the proper reply to an axis move command to the mcp. One came back blank, and the next came back with the reply to the previous command. This I think is an example of the delay problem in responses from the mcp. The TCC output is shown below. 0 0 F Modu=''prt_ReadMatch''; Text=''bad reply''; Expected=''ROT MOVE 56. 3954221 0. 0000017 28076.86866''; Received='' '' 0 0 F Modu=''axe_o_Move''; Text=''command failed for AZ , ALT, ROT'' 0 0 F Modu=''prt_ReadMatch''; Text=''bad reply''; Expected=''AZ MOVE''; Received='' ALT MOVE 49.7094768 0.0000006 28076.86866'' 0 0 F Modu=''prt_ReadMatch''; Text=''bad reply''; Expected=''ALT MOVE''; Received='' '' 0 0 F Modu=''prt_ReadMatch''; Text=''bad reply''; Expected=''ROT MOVE''; Received='' ROT MOVE 56.3954221 0.0000017 28076.86866'' 0 0 F Modu=''axe_o_Move''; Text=''command failed for AZ , ALT, ROT'' 0 0 I Modu=''axe_o_Init''; Text=''locking ports: Az , Alt, Rot'' 0 0 I Modu=''axe_o_Init''; Text=''initializing: Az , Alt, Rot'' 0 0 I Modu=''axe_o_Init''; Text=''setting time of: Az , Alt, Rot'' 0 0 I Modu=''axe_o_Init''; Text=''sending init files (if they exist) to: Az , Alt, Rot'' 0 0 I TCCStatus=''TTT'',''NNN''; TCCPos=-40.93,49.71,56.40; AxePos=-40.93,49.71 ,56. 40 0 0 I ObjNetPos = 8.874455, 0.004179, 4509762471.86866, 0.000000, 0.000000, 4509762471.86866 0 0 I SpiderInstAng = 56.631414, 0.000002, 4509762471.86866 0 0 I AzStat=-40.926876, 0.000000, 4509762475.81716, 0x00000000; AzDTime=0.0 0 0 I AltStat=49.709450, 0.000000, 4509762476.05646, 0x00000000; AltDTime=-0.1 0 0 I RotStat=56.395395, 0.000000, 4509762476.38283, 0x00000000; RotDTime=-0.1; RotID=1, 0 0 0 I AxisInit=''TTT'' 0 0 F Modu=''axe_i_SchMove''; Text=''tracking failed; axes halted'' 0 0 I SchMoveTimes=-4.0, -4.0, -4.0, -4.0 0 0 F Modu=''exe_Track''; Text=''no longer tracking'' Error happened around MDT 1:48 getclock 1003045659 tai 4509762476
