APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday November 30, 2002 (MJD 52609) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Mike Harvanek Night: Steph Snedden, Pete Newman ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Weather prevented opening. A problem with MCP surfaced. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- During afternoon checkout, SoS reported the Xsigma (spatial spread) value for camera r2 to be out of tolerance for cartridge 8 (plate 1080), but in tolerance for cartrige 7 (plate 1143) shortly afterwards. The difference between the cartridge DeltaXSigma = (1.12=1.08) = 0.04 is small but may be a measure of the variation in kinematic mount to slit-head positions between cartridges. Given the start of night plate was within tolerance, and the temperature was dropping, we did not recollimate. Partly cloudy at sunset, so we plan on starting with spectroscopy, but a humidity spike delayed opening, then clouds, then rain at 05:25Z. We never opened. The watcher reported a very large number (thousands) of errors from the Misc section of MCP - see problems section #1 for details. Observing sequence: Plate 1143, cartridge 7. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3502 21:01Z 21:20Z 100 O 94.18 98.85 45 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 17211, plate -9999 ------- 21:00 17211 0.0 bias ----- sequence 17212, plate 1080 ------- 21:09Z 17212 10.0 flat test Collimation checks 21:13Z 17213 2.0 arc test 21:22Z 17214 10.0 flat test 21:25Z 17215 10.0 flat test 21:31Z 17216 10.0 flat test 22:14Z 17217 10.0 flat test ----- sequence 17218, plate 1143 ------- 22:45Z 17218 10.0 flat test Collimation check 22:48Z 17219 2.0 arc test 22:56Z 17220 0.0 bias ----- sequence 17221, plate -9999 ------- 00:12 17221 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- No tapes to ship - endNight run against the "cloudy night" gangs tapes. ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 20:34Z 44 35 11 223 (SW) 181 - Part cloudy 23:39Z 40 33 8 263 (W) 70 - " 00:16Z 37 32 9 263 (W) 66 - " 00:46Z 37 33 8 266 (W) 84 - " 01:18Z 37 31 10 225 (SW) 49 - " 01:50Z 38 29 13 264 (W) 32 - " 02:21Z 37 31 12 260 (W) 26 - " 02:51Z 38 31 14 265 (W) 12 - " 03:21Z 38 31 13 252 (WSW) 30 - " 03:51Z 38 31 11 260 (W) 28 - " 04:21Z 38 31 13 259 (W) 55 - " 04:54Z 38 32 15 264 (W) 45 - " 05:26Z 38 32 27 261 (W) 93 - Rain 05:58Z 35 33 13 241 (WSW) 181 - " 06:30Z 34 31 9 211 (SSW) 278 - Partly cloudy 07:02Z 34 32 9 234 (SW) 217 - " 07:35Z 35 34 13 221 (SW) 41 - " 08:07Z 36 35 14 208 (SSW) 140 - " 08:40Z 36 34 16 212 (SSW) 190 - " 09:12Z 36 34 13 218 (SW) 179 - " 09:44Z 35 34 13 213 (SSW) 195 - " 10:16Z 35 34 11 197 (SSW) 250 - " 10:48Z 36 34 15 205 (SSW) 177 - " 11:21Z 37 35 14 215 (SW) 124 - " ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:30Z Fans on, doors open 00:00Z Fans off, doors closed - humidity spiked, did not open. PR 4471 opened against MCP. (Hello, Robert!)
