APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday February 3, 2003 (MJD 52674) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- swing Howard Brewington night Jure Krzesinski, Mike Harvanek ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Not a bad night. 7 plates done: 1244, 1209, 873, 1201, 1191, 1160, 1164. The night went smoothly. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing shift: During day shift, I checked the focus of the spectrographs; all four cameras were reported by IDL as out-of-focus. I did a sp1; mechPiston -5489 and a sp2; mechPiston -2820. Afterwards, the red cameras were in focus, but both blue camers were out-of-focus. So, Mike Harvanek and I adjusted b1 and b2 by the amount reccomended via IDL. After another set of Hartmann exposures, IDL reported all camers as in focus. At the time of these focus procedures, m1's temp= 2.37C. The final col-motor numbers (A to C) were: sp1=-511,-511,-1716 ; sp2=3599,3598,3599. 01:11Z at the beginning of the night on slew to the filed we've got too large to correct error in altitude. MCP axis error: altitude (correction for altitude 167123 is too large (2003-02-04 01:09:41Z sdssmcp): 2003-02-04 01:09:52Z ) 01:13Z Cart 1 plt 1244 mounted, sky was too bright, we found fk5 star after clearing offsets. Started exposure at the end of twilight. Seeing is variable. 03:02Z The weather become nonphotometric. Smear came out very bad. Plate finished with 5 exposures (900, 1500, 1500, 1500, 900). 04:25Z Cart 3 plt 1209 mounted, stars on slew. The percent scale change had changed a lot (-0.01) after precalib (we got percent scale changes around 0, when we started precalib). We will keep an eye on it. Done with 3 exposures (900, 1200, 900). 06:00Z Cart 4 plt 873 mounted. fk5 star used to find the guide ones. Finished with 3 exposures (720, 800, 600). 07:11Z Cart 6 plt 1191 mounted. fk5 star used. 07:23Z We lost guide stars after precalib, go to field showed them again. No clue what happend. Plate done with 3 exposures (720, 600, 1080). 08:29Z Cart 5 plt 1201 mounted. fk5 used to find the guide star. It's photometric again, but seeing is too bad and variable. Done with 3 exposures (720, 1080, 1400). 10:04Z Cart 7 plt 1160 mounted. fk5 used. We've got azimuth and altitude too large to correct during instrument change, but it didn't afect us at all. Thick clouds came during the third exposure. We read earlier that exposure, but S/N was too low. Waiting for better weather. Finaly exposure done with 4 exposures (1000, 600, 700-low S/N, 1500). 12:04Z Cart 8 plt 1164 mounted. Stars on slew. Done with two more exposures (1200, 900). 13:04Z imager servers died: The command "start_servers -i" failed after three attempts. But it did not affected our job. Servers restarted. endNight finished ok. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3653 22:10Z 22:26Z 100 O -184.47 -180.62 40 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 19088, plate -9999 ------- 22:11 19088 0.0 bias ----- sequence 19089, plate 1164 ------- 22:55 19089 10.0 flat 22:57 19090 2.0 arc 23:03 19091 2.1 arc 23:05 19092 2.1 arc 23:21 19093 2.1 arc 23:23 19094 2.1 arc 23:50 19095 2.1 arc 23:53 19096 2.1 arc ----- sequence 19097, plate -9999 ------- 00:27 19097 0.0 bias ----- sequence 19098, plate 1244 ------- 00:31 19098 0.0 bias ----- sequence 19099, plate 1244 ------- 01:50 19099 10.0 flat 01:53 19100 2.0 arc 02:18 19101 900.1 target 02:47 19102 1500.1 target 03:15 19103 1500.1 target 03:43 19104 1500.1 target 04:01 19105 900.1 target 04:09 19106 240.0 smear 04:12 19107 10.0 flat 04:15 19108 2.0 arc ----- sequence 19109, plate 1209 ------- 04:37 19109 10.0 flat 04:40 19110 2.0 arc 05:01 19111 900.1 target 05:24 19112 1200.1 target 05:43 19113 900.1 target 05:51 19114 240.0 smear ----- sequence 19115, plate 873 ------- 06:05 19115 10.0 flat 06:07 19116 2.0 arc 06:24 19117 720.1 target 06:41 19118 800.1 target 06:54 19119 600.1 target 07:02 19120 240.0 smear ----- sequence 19121, plate 1191 ------- 07:18 19121 10.0 flat 07:21 19122 2.0 arc 07:38 19123 720.1 target 07:51 19124 600.1 target 08:12 19125 1080.1 target 08:20 19126 240.0 smear ----- sequence 19127, plate 1201 ------- 08:40 19127 10.0 flat 08:43 19128 2.0 arc 09:00 19129 720.1 target 09:22 19130 1080.1 target 09:48 19131 1400.1 target 09:56 19132 240.0 smear ----- sequence 19133, plate 1160 ------- 10:16 19133 10.0 flat 10:18 19134 2.0 arc 10:39 19135 1000.1 target 10:52 19136 600.1 target 11:07 19137 700.1 target 11:15 19138 240.0 smear 11:49 19139 1500.1 target 11:53 19140 10.0 flat 11:56 19141 2.0 arc ----- sequence 19142, plate 1164 ------- 12:07 19142 10.0 flat 12:10 19143 2.0 arc 12:34 19144 1200.1 target 12:42 19145 240.0 smear 13:01 19146 900.1 target 13:04 19147 10.0 flat 13:06 19148 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:07Z 1 1244 37.71 0.0018 50.85 -0.0019 210.90 0.0000 1.000160 04:49Z 3 1209 96.97 0.0026 64.66 -0.0026 260.49 0.0047 1.000130 06:12Z 4 873 131.59 -0.0017 60.50 -0.0023 -70.80 -0.0134 1.000070 07:25Z 6 1191 -8.22 0.0052 63.65 -0.0004 172.99 0.0024 0.999990 08:47Z 5 1201 233.55 0.0015 70.98 0.0019 66.30 0.0024 1.000020 12:24Z 8 1164 162.88 -0.0035 68.41 -0.0014 -24.34 -0.0315 0.999910 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL6002 Stays: JL6003 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:06Z 1 1244 1.00016 -1579 -129 0 38 50.8 -2.6 10 28 gdr 1.9 04:49Z 3 1209 1.00013 -1283 -21 -100 97 64.6 -3.3 5 275 - 1.9 06:12Z 4 873 1.00007 -690 479 -100 132 60.4 -2.9 9 269 - 1.3 07:25Z 6 1191 0.99999 99 1125 -100 -8 63.7 -3.1 8 266 - 1.7 08:47Z 5 1201 1.00002 -198 816 -150 234 71.0 -2.3 11 260 - 1.6 12:24Z 8 1164 0.99991 888 1670 -200 163 68.4 -2.1 18 269 - 1.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:52Z 27 8 0 129 (SE) 202 - 22:25Z 28 8 5 347 (NNW) 191 - 22:57Z 31 7 4 305 (NW) 218 - 23:30Z 27 7 11 24 (NNE) 134 - 00:00Z 27 6 15 28 (NNE) 169 - 00:30Z 26 7 11 21 (NNE) 149 - 01:19Z 27 1 9 65 (ENE) 113 - 01:51Z 26 -3 13 33 (NNE) 68 - 02:23Z 25 1 8 24 (NNE) 72 - 02:56Z 25 1 3 279 (W) 91 - 03:28Z 26 2 6 338 (NNW) 82 - 04:00Z 26 2 6 334 (NNW) 90 - 04:31Z 26 3 6 284 (WNW) 107 - 05:02Z 25 4 6 352 (NNW) 118 - 05:33Z 26 4 9 311 (NW) 103 - 06:06Z 26 4 7 268 (W) 107 - 06:37Z 26 4 7 267 (W) 101 - 07:08Z 25 4 7 269 (W) 98 - 07:39Z 26 4 7 271 (W) 91 - 08:11Z 28 -2 13 256 (WSW) 154 - 08:43Z 28 -1 11 230 (SW) 196 - 09:14Z 26 1 10 210 (SSW) 262 - 09:47Z 28 -5 10 210 (SSW) 282 - 10:19Z 28 -10 13 262 (W) 231 - 10:52Z 28 -9 13 251 (WSW) 322 - 11:24Z 28 -7 14 240 (WSW) 368 - 11:56Z 28 -6 11 277 (W) 516 - 12:27Z 29 -5 8 249 (WSW) 603 - 12:58Z 28 -7 14 258 (WSW) 437 - 13:28Z 29 -8 15 273 (W) 521 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:50Z telescope open, dewars refilled.
