APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday May 7, 2003 (MJD 52767) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Pete Newman Night: Jurek Krzesinski, Howard Brewington. Eric Neilsen by phone (three times) Filters-cut-to-fit French (on site) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shake-up (before moonset) and science (after moonset). ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Completed the JEG Imager Test (with yellow filter) and closed PR 4634. PR 3778 and PR 2575 were done but not closed; see log. No new versions of softwares were declared current. Also declared the following plates done, vis., 1329, 1337, 1339. QA procedures were completed. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing shift notes ----------------- When setting up to check fiducials, the instrument lift was found to be up by less than a centimeter, stopping movement on the altitude axis. PR 2284 re-openned. Spectrographs' focus was adjusted - see section at the end of this log for details. Night shift notes: ------------------- Shakeup progress JEG Imager Test: With French's (cut-to-fit) help, we were able to tape the yellow filter to the face plate of the imager. We went to a Equator stripe, did a goDrift, and the run number was 3937. Seeing was under 2" as this test required. im> scanStripe 10 N -10 We also took bias drift on the telescope, vis., run 3936. The telescope is about 70 deg from the Moon. im> goDrift run 3937, called ingineering, imager with yellow filter on. 03:43Z - started focus loop. 03:53Z - in focus (lambda: -2.6, frame: 32), seeing < 2". Since it's photometric, and seeing below 2", we are continuuing scanning that stripe for Jim's tests, before we start with Eric's PR 4634 about focus loop. Skippy is happy. PR 3778: (Monitor for PT camera) We called Eric to make sure which verison of MOP we needed to be running for this shake item. He said that it was m2_24_0. This was, in fact, the version we have been running the entire darkrun, and it has already been declared current. We've had no problems with this version of MOP. And as stated in the shake plan, we did not close this PR. PR 4634 (focus loop status) PR 4634 (focus loop) We ended the (JEG Imager Test) drift but did not stop the focus loop. The Rel. focus was -599.20 at the end of the drift. We waited for a while and did not notice any focus changes, e.g., rel. focus numbers or pg plot. So, we issued "schedule list" and got the response below. In this test, we started the focus loop in the same iop windon as we did the goDrift. im> schedule list command arguments interval (s) ------- --------- ------------ checkMakeRunLog {} 30.0 kill_zombies {} 60.0 listenerToTCC {} 1.0 read_output file15 1 60.0 tapeAdjust {id1 id2 id3 id4 id5 id6 ad1 ad2 ad3 ad4} 300.0 Variable show_scheduled_errors is not set im> Next, we did another goDrift and started a focus loop in a different iop window.The focus was -553.30 when we ended the drift. The information below is the result of a "schedule list" command issued in the same iop window where we issued the goDrift and endDrift commands. im> schedule list command arguments interval (s) ------- --------- ------------ checkMakeRunLog {} 30.0 kill_zombies {} 60.0 listenerToTCC {} 1.0 read_output file15 1 60.0 tapeAdjust {id1 id2 id3 id4 id5 id6 ad1 ad2 ad3 ad4} 300.0 Variable show_scheduled_errors is not set im> But the rel. focus was continuing to change, so we did a "schedule list" command from the same iop window where we started the focus loop. See info below: im> schedule list command arguments interval (s) ------- --------- ------------ focusLoop 0 0 60.0 listenerToTCC {} 1.0 plotFocus -quiet 40.0 Variable show_scheduled_errors is not set im> The focus loop is still running in this window, and therefore, did not end when the endDrift command was issued in a different window. This PR was closed because the focus loop did stop when endDrift command was issued. That is, of course, if the focus loop was running the same window where the endDrit command was issued. PR 2575 (Relay server not asking for a connection to the main server...) After waking Eric again, we decided to do this slightly different way than in instruction. We restarted servers, noted pids in each server window: none> pid 153479 sop>pid 154241 im> pid 154272 then exited from the main server window. Waited 20 minutes. And again, servers were showing up for a while and dying. No succes. So, we reverted the link back to the previous script. PR was not closed because it did not work. The final shake item, Data needed for a faster collimation procedure, was not done because we ran out of time. But, we feel this procedure could be done during the day as part of the monthly checkout. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ After the shakeup items, we did science with spectro. 06:34Z Plate 1337 (cart 08), stars on slew. With S/N from last night, plate was declared done after one exposure. 07:15Z Plate 1329 (cart 09), stars on slew. Plate declared done in three exposures. 08:18Z Plate 1339 (cart 07), stars on slew. We accidently left on the lift's hand-control for the first few minutes of the the first exposure (#20903) when discovered, however, it was quiclky turned off. SOS did not complain and QA looked okay. endNight ended and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3935 22:15Z 23:07Z 100 O -91.76 -78.65 99 ignore 3936 03:16Z 03:35Z 100 O -16.17 -11.43 46 bias 3937 03:37Z 04:57Z 10 N -6.22 13.65 144 engineering 3938 05:10Z 05:18Z 10 N 16.97 19.06 27 engineering ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3937 18 4 47 -1.900 0.811 -3.600 0.563 -0.00255 172 57 3937 71 4 47 -2.600 0.267 -3.400 0.424 -0.00413 172 57 3937 125 4 48 -2.000 0.291 -3.700 0.507 -0.00286 172 57 3938 15 4 38 -1.700 0.267 -3.900 0.459 -0.00275 172 57 3938 15 4 38 -1.700 0.267 -3.900 0.459 -0.00275 172 57 3938 15 4 38 -1.700 0.267 -3.900 0.459 -0.00275 172 57 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3937 30 1 57 8 9 1.748 0.206 0.150 0.232 -0.00050 3937 30 1 57 8 15 2.068 0.203 0.844 0.271 -0.00284 3937 30 1 57 8 10 2.495 0.312 0.958 0.189 -0.00322 3937 30 1 57 8 9 2.961 0.236 1.220 0.276 -0.00410 3937 30 1 57 8 18 2.696 0.260 0.926 0.285 -0.00311 3937 47 1 57 8 18 2.390 0.173 0.244 0.277 -0.00082 3937 47 1 57 8 11 2.857 0.158 0.351 0.223 -0.00118 3937 47 1 57 8 14 3.284 0.129 0.881 0.218 -0.00296 3937 47 1 57 8 16 3.546 0.178 1.056 0.133 -0.00355 3937 47 1 57 8 13 3.533 0.215 0.580 0.335 -0.00195 3937 81 1 57 8 9 2.014 0.292 -0.293 0.366 0.00098 3937 81 1 57 8 15 2.407 0.182 -0.244 0.319 0.00082 3937 81 1 57 8 13 2.874 0.217 0.521 0.283 -0.00175 3937 81 1 57 8 11 2.983 0.112 0.423 0.325 -0.00142 3937 81 1 57 8 17 3.008 0.205 0.008 0.234 -0.00003 3937 100 1 57 8 13 1.776 0.233 0.731 0.199 -0.00246 3937 100 1 57 8 16 2.251 0.205 1.051 0.289 -0.00353 3937 100 1 57 8 16 2.746 0.256 1.836 0.226 -0.00617 3937 100 1 57 8 12 3.058 0.178 1.543 0.284 -0.00519 3937 100 1 57 8 13 2.972 0.179 1.283 0.302 -0.00432 3937 125 1 57 8 18 1.745 0.101 0.113 0.262 -0.00038 3937 125 1 57 8 14 2.187 0.245 0.295 0.244 -0.00099 3937 125 1 57 8 9 2.828 0.100 0.558 0.119 -0.00188 3937 125 1 57 8 10 3.017 0.218 0.673 0.276 -0.00226 3937 125 1 57 8 20 3.196 0.194 -0.072 0.322 0.00024 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 20884, plate -9999 ------- 22:23 20884 0.0 bias ----- sequence 20885, plate 1337 ------- 01:09 20885 2.1 arc 01:11 20886 2.1 arc 01:29 20887 2.1 arc 01:31 20888 2.1 arc ----- sequence 20890, plate -9999 ------- 06:31 20890 0.0 bias ----- sequence 20891, plate 1337 ------- 06:45 20891 10.0 flat 06:48 20892 2.0 arc 07:03 20893 600.1 target 07:10 20894 240.0 smear ----- sequence 20895, plate 1329 ------- 07:22 20895 10.0 flat 07:24 20896 2.0 arc 07:38 20897 600.1 target 07:51 20898 600.1 target 08:04 20899 600.1 target 08:14 20900 240.0 smear ----- sequence 20901, plate 1339 ------- 08:25 20901 10.0 flat 08:28 20902 2.0 arc 08:47 20903 900.1 target 09:16 20904 1500.1 target 09:49 20905 1800.1 target 10:22 20906 1800.1 target 10:30 20907 240.0 smear 10:34 20908 10.0 flat 10:36 20909 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:53Z 8 1337 112.45 0.0011 71.38 0.0001 -80.45 -0.0051 1.000080 07:33Z 9 1329 196.08 0.0036 71.71 0.0016 21.25 0.0016 1.000020 08:45Z 7 1339 226.71 -0.0089 87.79 0.0008 47.68 0.0297 1.000070 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL6352, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 6391 Stays: JL6358, 59, 60, 75, 76, 77, 6392 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:53Z 8 1337 1.00008 -789 350 -125 112 71.4 8.3 28 247 gdr 2.0 07:33Z 9 1329 1.00002 -198 840 -125 196 71.7 8.5 26 246 gdr 2.0 08:45Z 7 1339 1.00007 -690 417 -125 228 87.7 8.0 25 239 gdr 1.9 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:23Z 54 7 18 277 (W) 1879 -
