APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday August 23, 2003 (MJD 52875) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Pete Newman Night: Snedden, Brewington ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- One plate declared done. Useable signal on another plate. Clouds and high humidity for most of the night. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing shift notes: Spectro focus checked (Tamb=14.9C) but no adjustment required. Night shift: Clouds started forming just to the east of us just before sunset. We chose to start with a cartridge since it looked like clouds might be a problem. We started with plate 1416 and were on the field and ready to go by twilight. FK5 was found on slew, no offsets needed. Plate finished with a total exposure of 2100 s. 03:55Z We were still getting bits of cloud from the east and north, so we continued with spectroscopy on plate 1406. Clouds got worse while we were observing it. We got useable signal in 1620 s total, but did not finish the plate. 04:44Z Clouds getting worse. Off to plate 1028. Needed an FK5 star to find the field, but it was on the edge of the fiber, so part of the problem may have been clouds. We didn't even start the first exposure, since our guide stars were barely visible. We waited for the clouds to thin. We waited in vain. The clouds did thin eventually, but it did us no good because the dewpoint dropped to closure conditions. And that was it for the night. The dewpoint depression stayed below closure conditions for the rest of the night. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4078 23:24Z 23:34Z 100 O 32.08 34.53 28 ignore doghouse ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 22040, plate -9999 ------- 23:23 22040 0.0 bias ----- sequence 22041, plate 1104 ------- 23:29 22041 2.1 arc 23:32 22042 2.1 arc ----- sequence 22043, plate 1416 ------- 01:27 22043 0.0 bias 02:47 22044 10.0 flat 02:50 22045 2.0 arc 03:09 22046 900.1 target 03:22 22047 600.1 target 03:35 22048 600.1 target 03:43 22049 240.0 smear ----- sequence 22050, plate 1406 ------- 03:57 22050 10.0 flat 03:59 22051 2.0 arc 04:16 22052 720.1 target 04:34 22053 900.1 target 04:37 22054 10.0 flat 04:39 22055 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:55Z cart 2 252.65 -0.0008 62.26 0.0010 92.06 0.0146 1.000070 04:03Z cart 7 261.93 0.0018 52.52 0.0007 105.69 -0.0214 1.000130 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL6662 Stays: JL6663 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:55Z cart 2 1.00007 -690 374 -200 253 62.3 12.8 20 85 - 1.9 04:03Z cart 7 1.00013 -1283 -40 -150 262 52.6 12.2 22 74 - 1.9 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:15Z 63 41 13 87 (E) 455 - pcl 23:47Z 62 42 4 56 (NE) 488 - pcl 00:20Z 60 41 17 56 (NE) 448 - pcl 01:20Z 57 42 17 76 (ENE) 455 - pcl 01:52Z 56 44 14 77 (ENE) 458 - pcl 02:25Z 55 46 20 71 (ENE) 506 - pcl 02:55Z 55 46 20 84 (E) 546 - pcl 03:25Z 54 45 24 72 (ENE) 438 - pcl 03:58Z 54 45 22 70 (ENE) 413 - pcl 04:29Z 53 45 19 71 (ENE) 476 - pcl 04:59Z 53 46 14 90 (E) 479 - mcl 05:30Z 53 46 13 89 (E) 466 - mcl 06:03Z 53 48 12 89 (E) 591 - mcl 06:35Z 52 48 16 80 (E) 610 - pcl 07:07Z 51 48 16 74 (ENE) 813 - pcl 07:39Z 51 48 11 82 (E) 772 - pcl 08:12Z 51 48 12 81 (E) 768 - pcl 08:44Z 51 47 13 83 (E) 770 - pcl 09:16Z 51 48 13 77 (ENE) 732 - pcl 09:49Z 51 47 9 83 (E) 733 - pcl 10:21Z 51 47 8 83 (E) 788 - pcl 10:53Z 50 47 5 89 (E) 723 - pcl ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:00Z Doors opened, fans on 01:50Z Opened enclosure 01:50Z Replaced imager dewar 05:45Z Closed enclosure and doors. fans off.
