APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday November 23, 2003 (MJD 52967) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Mike Harvaneck Night: Howard Brewington Pete Newman Jon Brinkmann: on site Connie (phone) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Because of poor seeing, we did Apache Wheel most of the night; however, clouds became a problem about twenty-five minutes before twilight. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon Checkout: ----------------------- We found two dead mice in the imager doghouse. We also discovered that the dust cover for the imager was not properly seated nor covering the face of the imager. We did not check the focus of the spectros. Jon Brinkmann arrived just after sunset to clean the optics in the 2.5-meter. Night: ----------------------- 00:53Z At twilight, the wind came from the north-east; the sky was photometric. We started with a scan of 82,N, but the seeing was ~2.0" as reported by seeingRun. So, we switched to Apache Wheel. CCD 51 seemed a little unhappy with respect to vs- as displayed in Watcher. We talked Connie about the problem. 09:20Z During the second Apache Wheel equatorial rim scan, the az axis halted; it was a azWrap problem. This was our mistake; we copied and pasted an unneeded azWrap into the track command. We restarted this rim scan with a twenty degree overlap. 11:52Z During spoke 120, we had clouds move into the view of the cloud camera. Consequently, we had to end this scan early. We used setRunandFrame 4291 1 See problem section for misc errors from Watcher. endNight finished and was happy!! Imager tapes in the photo-robot and running. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4276 22:28Z 22:52Z 100 O 108.63 114.70 39 ignore 4277 23:31Z 23:47Z 100 O 124.60 128.65 39 bias 4278 00:53Z 01:42Z 82 N 157.17 169.48 96 ignore 4279 01:47Z 12:01Z 100 O 158.58 -47.58 433 calibration 4280 12:10Z 12:14Z 100 O -45.19 -44.17 21 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- 23:31Z Run #4277: Bias, T-bars unlatched, on telescope, inside dark enclosure. ++++++++++++++++++++++++ 00:53Z Run #4278: Apache Wheel Calib, 82 N, +156 start lambda.
