We're counting all three spokes done unless someone says otherwise. (We think we just skirted this side of non-photometric, but the hoggPT solutions look a little worse than our cloud camera threshold suggests it should. So, could someone have a looksy and let us know if we scraped by with these spokes or not.) Only 3 PTVME/DA problems during binned scanning attempts.... endNight left running. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Normal afternoon check except for spectrograph focus. Collimator actuators not responding properly in sp1. This prevented adjusting focus. It was not too far out to operate, so it was left as it was. It will need to be investigated tomorrow. See problem section and PR 5874 for details. Imager dewar swapped. Night: ------ It is photometric at the start of the night, but not likely to stay that way. We started with cart 4 plate 1562. We got some signal (not enough to finish it) before it expired, then went on to: 03:30Z: cart 2 plate 1738. GSOTGTF. Again, the guider stopped after the first exposure. The approaching clouds are dissipating, so we switched to imaging. Run 4458 05:49Z started at 26N, lambda=-68; science to start at -63. Skippy ran (!) and was good from the start. Frame 22=> lambda=-65 -- all data are good. Seeing went from acceptable to bad at: Frame 50 Longitude -60.8. Seeing stayed bad, so we decided to go to apacheWheel. (The 3.5m and prior spectroscopy corroborated the bad seeing.) 06:41Z endDrift- little useful data ApacheWheel ----------- 06:48Z IOP crashed on the first AW goDrift with backplane communication problems... As usual, ptvmeTest showed no errors, so we proceeded with Dan's folklore fix. Upon restarting things, IOP hung on the init4Bin command until Atsuko bailed out of a few of her IOPs. Go figure. This goDrift worked. 07:03Z. RIM SCAN 07:05Z we start the rim scan (tracking to 92 RA) - second track complete at frame 10, run 4460. PR 5874 sp1 actuator not moving properly: ------------------------------------------ mechSend s at the start of the focus check returned normal looking status. goSpecFocus was enough off in sp1 to warrant a change. (It requested -4400 piston). When applied, the following was sent to sop. sp1> mechPiston -4400 2004-02-15 22:58:29Z: Original command was !ma-1000! 2004-02-15 22:58:29Z: expected reply was !ma-1000 OK ! motor a: Mechanicals did not respond correctly; response was ma-1000 A second attempt yielded the same response. Rebooting sp1 mechanicals and trying a third time still gave the error. Another goSpecFocus sequence was run to see if anything had moved. It was clear from the wavelength range of the arc that things had moved. A postCalib sequence was run as a further check. The movement in position and wavelength was consistent with a negative move in only the a actuator. In hopes of returning to where we started, the following command was issued. mechMoveColl 3000 0 0 This command completed normally, and thankfully the postCalib that followed was all in spec according to SoS. The requested focus change was not so large that we couldn't operate, so the spectrographs were left unchanged from here (essentially where they started the day). TPM Watcher Errors ------------------ Oops- closed the watcher before I could cut/paste these, but we had M2 Mig communications M2 temperature Dewar communications and tracking errors tonight
