APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday May 16, 2004 (MJD 53142) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington Pete Newman Mike Harvanek (swing) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science and then collimation after moonrise. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- As last night, we are still having guider problems, vis., long pauses. We had a couple of alt aborts when we moved the scope to six-degrees as we opened and closed the 2.5M enclosure. We lost about forty-five minutes because cart 05, plate 1580 would not focus. We declared five plates done: 1609, 1697, 1701, 1390, 1418. See log for details. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Spectro collimation was adjusted. See the Problems section for details. Night: --------- While moving the scope to six-degrees to pull the enclousure, we had an alt abort at sixteen-degrees. Watcher also reported a windscreen touch about that time. 02:35Z Cart 03, plate 1609 (chunk77). The guide stars were found after clearing offsets. We got an error while doing preCalibs; see problems section for details. We have clouds and low efficiency. Plate finished in three exposures. 05:08Z Cart 09, plate 1697 (chunk87). Guide stars found on go_to_field. Plate finished in three exposures. 06:23Z Cart 04, plate 1701 (chunk87). Guide stars found on go_to_field. Plate finished in three exposures. 07:30Z Cart 05, plate 1581 (chunk76). We had clouds, which did not allow us to find the field. However, we were able to locate an Fk5 star. Unfortunately, we could not get this plate completely focused, i.e., some stars were in focus and some were donuts. We removed the cartridge from the the scope and noticed that some of the fibers were not properly seated into the plate. Consequently, we moved on to cart 02 but lost about forty-five minutes due to this problem. Cart 05 needs to be checked and/or replugged. Could this be a drill problem? 08:10Z Cart 02, plate 1390 (chunk69). Guide stars found on go_to_field; however, the guider is still unhappy tonight. This is the same probem we had last night, vis., there were long pauses after the guider was started. So, we rebooted the guider_Mac, which did not seem to resolve the problem. This plate was declared done when tonight's SN^2 was added to a previous MJD's. MJD b1 r1 b2 r2 53139 15.8 12.4 15.4 14.3 53142 8.4 5.8 8.9 5.2 ------------------------------ total 24.2 18.2 24.3 19.5 09:28Z Cart 07, plate 1418 (chunk71). Guide stars found on go_to_field. Plate was finished in three exposures. As with the beginning of the night, we had an alt abort when we move the scope to six-degrees to close the 2.5M enclosure. A PR was filed; it was PR6043. All misc. watcher errors were placed in the problems section. endNight finished and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4637 00:00Z 00:17Z 100 O -55.73 -51.47 42 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 26713, plate -9999 ------- 23:51 26713 0.0 bias ----- sequence 26714, plate 1609 ------- 00:03 26714 10.0 flat collimation 00:05 26715 2.0 arc " 00:08 26716 2.1 arc " 00:10 26717 2.1 arc " 00:26 26718 2.1 arc 00:28 26719 2.1 arc ----- sequence 26720, plate -9999 ------- 01:05 26720 0.0 bias 01:49 26721 0.0 bias 03:16 26722 0.0 bias ----- sequence 26723, plate 1609 ------- 03:28 26723 10.0 flat 03:31 26724 2.0 arc 04:01 26725 1200.1 target 04:29 26726 1500.1 target 04:57 26727 1500.1 target 05:00 26728 10.0 flat 05:03 26729 2.0 arc ----- sequence 26730, plate 1697 ------- 05:15 26730 10.0 flat 05:18 26731 2.0 arc 05:40 26732 1100.1 target 06:01 26733 1100.1 target 06:16 26734 700.1 target ----- sequence 26735, plate 1701 ------- 06:33 26735 10.0 flat 06:35 26736 2.0 arc 06:52 26737 800.1 target 07:08 26738 800.1 target 07:25 26739 800.1 target ----- sequence 26740, plate 1390 ------- 08:25 26740 10.0 flat 08:28 26741 2.0 arc 08:54 26742 10.0 flat 08:56 26743 2.0 arc 09:23 26744 1200.1 target ----- sequence 26745, plate 1418 ------- 09:37 26745 10.0 flat 09:40 26746 2.0 arc 10:00 26747 900.1 target 10:18 26748 900.1 target 10:36 26749 900.1 target 10:39 26750 10.0 flat 10:41 26751 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:39Z 3 1609 -18.23 0.0000 68.70 0.0022 164.31 0.0281 1.000220 05:14Z 9 1697 -24.66 0.0000 67.59 0.0015 158.91 0.0314 1.000300 06:39Z 4 1701 -49.61 -0.0024 60.35 0.0009 139.09 0.0102 1.000220 09:01Z 2 1390 271.07 -0.0014 66.20 0.0006 105.40 0.0458 1.000110 10:16Z 7 1418 255.86 0.0008 54.11 0.0006 100.38 0.0111 1.000160 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL7541 Stays: JL7542 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:20Z 3 1609 1.00022 -2171 -721 -55 -6 69.5 14.3 13 218 03:38Z 3 1609 1.00022 -2171 -720 -55 -18 68.7 14.4 13 227 gdr 1.1 05:14Z 9 1697 1.00030 -2961 -1372 -55 -25 67.5 14.0 16 246 gdr 1.0 06:39Z 4 1701 1.00022 -2171 -652 -5 -49 60.4 13.7 14 232 gdr 1.0 09:01Z 2 1390 1.00011 -1086 299 60 271 66.3 12.9 18 206 gdr 1.5 10:16Z 7 1418 1.00016 -1580 -120 20 256 54.2 12.4 13 239 gdr 1.3 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:41Z 62 27 14 270 (W) 743 - 00:13Z 63 25 16 247 (WSW) 936 - partly cloudy 01:34Z 58 22 5 242 (WSW) 1117 - 02:05Z 57 18 12 237 (WSW) 1594 - 02:35Z 56 19 12 219 (SW) 1589 - 03:07Z 57 21 12 213 (SSW) 1423 - 03:38Z 57 21 12 226 (SW) 1396 - partly cloudy 04:10Z 57 20 13 229 (SW) 1451 - 04:43Z 57 19 16 237 (WSW) 1359 - 05:14Z 57 18 15 245 (WSW) 1514 - 05:44Z 57 18 13 239 (WSW) 1445 - 06:17Z 57 18 12 229 (SW) 1549 - partly cloudy 06:48Z 56 18 15 230 (SW) 1564 - 07:21Z 56 18 13 182 (S) 1782 - 07:52Z 56 16 13 203 (SSW) 1494 - 08:22Z 56 15 8 226 (SW) 1663 - 08:54Z 55 15 14 185 (S) 1427 - partly cloudy 09:26Z 55 15 10 219 (SW) 1518 - 09:57Z 55 12 13 218 (SW) 1376 - 10:27Z 55 11 8 219 (SW) 1243 - 10:59Z 54 10 8 266 (W) 1237 - partly cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 02:09Z doors opened, louvers opened, fans on. 02:10Z enclosure off 10:55Z enclosure on, louvers closed, fans off.
