APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday November 1, 2004 (MJD 53311) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dan Long Atsuko Nitta (via internet) Mike Harvanek (swing) Visitor: Rick Kessler (U. Chicago) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shake and science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Impressively cold temperatures and strong winds blowing around the one or two inches of snow that fell this evening, pretty much summarizes the night. We never even considered opening. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Spectro collimation adjusted. See the Problems section for details. We had a windscreen touch without moving the telescope: altitude (Windscreen touched in altitude: UP (2004-11-02 00:54:55Z sdssmcp): 2004-11-02 00:55:07Z) The telescope had been moved approximately 1 hour before the warning. Snow and high wind. It is doubtful we will open. Night: ------ Given the nasty weather with no chance of opening, and icy road conditions, I recommended that Atsuko not drive up tonight. So she looked over the TPM PRs from home. One thing she found is that we will need to update the TPM link on the procedures page. It seems that in most cases testing the PRs can only be done by observing the watcher for TPM errors, and by looking at the tpm display for alarms when the conditions are met (mostly weather). Note, the two TPM errors recorded in the watcher are listed in the problem section. Some snow removal was done, though the wind had taken care of much of it already. The outside dust counter seems to have stopped counting again. The numbers fell from a few hundred before 01:00Z to less than 10 afterward. endNight run on CLOUDY tapes. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4924 00:26Z 00:52Z 100 O 117.35 123.98 58 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 29078, plate -9999 ------- 00:15 29078 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29079, plate 1865 ------- 00:32 29079 10.0 flat collimation 00:34 29080 2.0 arc collimation 00:38 29081 2.1 arc collimation 00:41 29082 2.1 arc collimation 00:58 29083 2.1 arc collimation 01:00 29084 2.1 arc collimation ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JLCloudy1 Stays: JLCloudy2 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:52Z 21 19 34 62 (ENE) 241 - Snow,Blowing Snow 00:24Z 20 18 29 69 (ENE) 223 - Snow,Blowing Snow 00:56Z 20 17 32 63 (ENE) 268 - Snow,Blowing Snow 01:16Z 19 17 26 63 (ENE) 4 - Snow,Blowing Snow 01:48Z 19 17 35 63 (ENE) 3 - Blowing Snow 02:25Z 19 16 29 61 (ENE) 3 - Blowing Snow 02:57Z 19 17 26 68 (ENE) 0 - Snow,Blowing Snow 03:29Z 18 16 30 64 (ENE) 5 - Snow,Blowing Snow 04:02Z 18 15 32 57 (ENE) 18 - Snow,Blowing Snow 04:34Z 18 15 18 80 (E) 6 - Blowing Snow 05:06Z 18 15 32 72 (ENE) 5 - Blowing Snow 05:38Z 18 15 24 70 (ENE) 0 - Blowing Snow 06:11Z 18 15 40 62 (ENE) 4 - Blowing Snow 06:43Z 18 13 28 62 (ENE) 3 - Blowing Snow 07:15Z 17 15 26 55 (NE) 6 - Blowing Snow 07:47Z 17 15 38 65 (ENE) 1 - Blowing Snow 08:20Z 18 15 21 69 (ENE) 1 - Blowing Snow 08:56Z 18 15 4 54 (NE) 0 - Mostly Cloudy 09:28Z 18 16 7 52 (NE) 0 - Cloudy 10:00Z 18 15 0 89 (E) 0 - Flurries 10:33Z 17 14 18 30 (NNE) 0 - Mostly Cloudy 11:05Z 17 15 3 352 (NNW) 0 - Mostly Cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Enclosure never opened Stowed at 30 deg alt, cartridge 1 installed.
