The spectro focus was not checked because the imager was mounted. Night: -------- We start with imager bias in the dark enclosure. Run 5122 bias on the telescope in the dark enclosure. ========================================================= We noticed after taking biases that we were using the current iop and not the latest greatest iop (v3_143_0a). We switch iop sessions before starting our flats. Steph is thinking of few procedure modifications. She thinks that syncing the telescope more than once will make it easier to center Polaris in the middle of the chip. Also, we will sync both time and date at the beginning of the night for now since powering down the software seems to loose both the time and date information sometimes. biasCheck, checkBias, checkFlats all showed that things are well. Run 5124 21N (ignore this run) -------------- Testing iop built on astrom v3_8c. skippy and focus are all good from the beginning of the run. focusLoop runs fine. The seeing is bad tonight and of course we have moooooooooon. After seeing that skippy runs fine from both iop and astrom, we decided that the test is completed. 04:50Z instChange to spectro Cart 9 Plate 1939 SDSS ---------------------- The first grabInst failed, so we dropped and regrabbed the instrument. That worked. Maybe the server was trying to talk to the camera when we tried to connect it. guideStars on gotoField. Mike declared v3_143_0a current. 3 science exposures finished the plate. 07:00Z Cart 4 Plate 1951 -------------------------- Mike tried to loadCart when TCC timed out and gave error message. We don't know why TCC timed out, but it might be because the rotator took very long time to get to 0. The stack trace message from the time out is in the problem section. Stars on gotoField. The seeing has improved. It is now about 1.3". Finished in 3 exposures. postCalib recommendation came in for the third exposure but it was too late since we have moved on by the time the warning came in. 08:25Z Cart 5 Plate 1782 ------------------------- guide stars on gotoField. We could not take the preCalib -- the flat lamp 3 is out! So Mike found a spare lightbulb in the engineering trailor and he climbed up the telescope to change it. Atsuko feels like she should practice climbing telescopes since it did not look too easy. When he reached to the flat field lamp, he found that he needed not only regular allen renches, but very very very tiny screw driver (those that are used for watches) as well to get the light bulb off. The tiny screws are holding down the prongs coming out of hte base of the lightbulb. The task was did not seem easily doable in the dark, standing on the side of the telescope. Since the moon was setting, we decided to give up any more spectroing and mounted the imager. 09:30Z Run 5125 20N ----------------------- Frame 18 Longitude -51.9 Seeing, skippy, focus good from here. Frame 110 Longitude -38.2 Seeing becomes acceptable. Frame 119 Longitude -36.8 Seeing becomes bad. :( The wind is from the east and becoming stronger. Frame 160 Longitude -30.7 Seeing is back to being GOOD! Frame 211 Longitude -23.1 Seeing went bad again. Siiiigh. 12:39Z Frame 315 Longitude -7.4 Twilight starts. Frame 335 Longitude -6 ending the drift. The seeing never returned to being good. The first endNight attempt failed because of the failed archived data from the first bias taken in the afternoon. The archiver was confused probably by two initNight commands issued before and after this particular bias was taken. While we waited for the unarchived frames to be archived, we closed the telescope at 13:00Z. The second endNight started out fine and is running..... DIMM and its CCD are powered down. 13:20Z The imager server died. We restarted the server.
