Good data on another 2 plates (2070, 2072). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ============= I thank the day crew for getting the removing snow, changing absorbing pads inside the enclosure and checking to make sure all doors are no longer frozen over. id3-1 drive showed all lights blinking after initNight. Watcher complained of hardware error. archReadSense said there was no tape mounted. I pushed the "reload button couple times before the tape was ready to be ejected from the drive. Although the drive did not ask to be cleaned, I cleaned it anyway. Afer that, I placed a new tape in the drive and continued. When taking postCalib in the afternoon, the enclosure temp was 6.5C while the outside was 0.8C. I could not open the enclosure to cool due to the humidity. Collimate output recommended negtive move for both r1 and r2 to be in perfect collimation. Dan tells me that this means that the spectros are set to be in focus for warmer temperature. So he suggests that I move both r1 and r2 in larger neagative position than recommended so that it will be closer to focus at cooler temperature. The output of the collimate and the move I made are in the PROBLEM section. During the telescope checkout, we saw the windscreen touch in ALT going up. There are absorbing pads and bucket in the enclosure. Water was dripping from the roof of the support building on to the manipulator rail. Before sunset, the manipulator moved without any problem, but if the water freezes after sunset, it might get a bit of ice on the rail. Night ===== High humidity delayed opening until 02:20Z. Moony so we begin with spectroscopy. The manipulator arm acted up a bit as it would not go all the way up. The DL250 was by-passed and the arm appeared to work normally. After swapping a cartridge in the bay, the DL250 was returned to normal run mode and it appeared to work ok. Perhaps there was some ice that was blocking the arm movement in the normal mode and forcing the arm up in the by-passed mode knocked the ice loose? Plate 2070 (cartridge 7): Segue faint. Guide stars on the gotoField. We got one 900 sec exposure although most of the exposure was obtained after this plate had expired. Plate 2072 (cartridge 3): Segue faint. Guide stars on the gotoField. We obtained 4 exposures (4800 sec total) before this plate expired but it was not enough to finish it. There were whopping fiber and sky residual warnings issued by SoS. We did a postCal for this plate. Plate 1957 (cartridge 1): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. Three exposures (3100 sec total) finished this plate. We did a postCal for this plate. SoS reported a max-sky residual warning. Plate 2087 (cartridge 2): Survey. An fk5 was needed to acquire the field. Three exposures (2800 sec total) finished this plate. SoS reported a max-sky residual warning. Plate 1942 (cartridge 9): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. Three exposures (2700 sec total) finished this plate. No SoS warnings. Plate 1762 (cartridge 5): Survey. An fk5 was needed to acquire the field. Three exposures (2800 sec total) finished this plate. SoS reported max-sky residual warnings. There was no guide star in fiber 7 and the fiber was enabled. Plate 1995 (cartridge 6): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. Three exposures (2900 sec total) finished this plate. SoS reported max-sky residual and scattered light warnings. The call for the postCal came too late. Plate 1667 (cartridge 8): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. The focus on this plate changed by 220 units from the previous plate. This was probably due to a change in both the temp and the dew point. Clouds prevented us from getting anything useful on this plate. The servers died around 13:00Z for no apparent reason. They appeared to restart okay but died again around 13:15Z. This time they were killed after they restarted and seemed to return normally.
