We experienced trouble spooling the data to the SN cluster; see Problems section. DIMM did not track Polaris properly tonight so we have no seeing measurements. See Problems. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon --------- No issues during checkout. Night ----- While waiting for the sky to get dark after sunset, we mounted the imager and took an on-telescope bias (Run 5602) in the dark enclosure. We began with SN imaging. 02:20Z Run 5603 (Supernova Stripe 82 N, startLambda=+109). Skippy seemed happy from the get-go with the limited number of available catalog stars. In focus by frame 20. Seeing was exceptionally good again. A blip in photometricity around 02:50Z was caused by clouds far to the south, nowhere near our imaging area. We did note that sky levels changed as the moon went behind, then came out from, the clouds. Around Frame 60 we lost almost all our seeing measurements and the background on the scrolling displays went blue; Dan suspected astroline had the quartile values for the sky very wrong because of the amount of moonlight present. Within 2 frames the seeing measurements came back and the scrolling display backgrounds returned to normal. A similar event occured at Frame 68 where the backgrounds on Dewars 1 and 2 went very high; this corresponded with a puff of cloud coming through the field at 03:01Z. Another cloud blip at 03:40 (Frame 137) had clouds far off to the north, not affecting our imaging area. More cloudy blips forming overhead at 05:00Z (Frame 272); these likely did cross our imaging area but none looked particularly thick. Dewars 4-6 showed enhhanced background through Frame 273, then all six dewars showed it at frame 274. Levels returned to normal around Frame 284. More clouds at Frame 288 in all dewars. Clouds continued to come and go, forming directly overhead and blowing downwind to the east. High sky levels again in Frames 307-317 and 345-348. 07:24Z Moonset. Conditions were on the hairy edge of survey acceptability in terms of seeing and we still had occasional clouds passing over us, so we elected to continue SN imaging. Clouds again at 08:09Z, at first outside our imaging area, but started affecting us at 08:12Z (Frame 592). Seeing blew up as the clouds thickened. We continued getting data while the background varied considerably, but pretty much all of these data appear marginal in quality. 10:59Z Reached the end of the stripe and ramped down to end at Lambda=-122.2, Frame 870. Not enough time left before twilight to do anything useful, given the weather, so we closed for the night at 11:15Z. On attempting to spool the SN data to the SN cluster machines, we ran into errors. It also may have been bumped -- Polaris didn't seem to be centered on the CCD when it was centered on the finderscope crosshairs. Before we could fix that problem, we watched the star images drift off toward the left side of the chip as if the scope were not tracking at all. The drift was confirmed in the finderscope. The scope is definitely powered and all connections look fine. It is not at all clear to us why the tracking is not good. At the end of the night, when we shut down the 2.5m, we found the scope pointing below the northeastern horizon (we had left the scope powered on inadvertently). Clearly something's up with the tracking. We noticed that there was no./ 53626 directory under sdssfiles1:/data/photo. No gang files, nothing. The files, however, DO exist on sdsshost2:/data/photo/53626/5603. We think the spool_master.cmd script assumes files exist on files1 and therefore bails out when it finds no data. Was some change made today causing data to remain on host2 for some reason? makeFieldLinks was still running when we noticed this behavior though we're not sure if that has anything to do with it. We also note that "/data/skycat/oplogs/astrolog/53626/" does not appear on files1, but is on host2 -- without the "/data" part. Maybe the symbolic links that the spooling script expects are broken?
