APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday September 14, 2006 (MJD 53993) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Elena Malanushenko Night: Dan Long, Mike Harvanek Assistance: Steph Snedden, French Leger Visitor: Bill Boroski Also: Shannon Watters, Mamoru Doi, Masayuki Tanaka ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- SN science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- There were checksum errors on one of the afternoon biases. The first 4+ hours of the night were lost to humidity/clouds. Both iop and mop now seem to be running NOCVS versions. The cloud camera is showing a weird artifact (e.g. 04:36:00Z). The spectro auto-fill system is still flaky and is turned off. Imaged 82 S from lambda +145 to +179 (including ramps). The az aborted twice during this run (6348). Imaged 82 S from lambda -159.5 to -144.8 (including ramps) but some/most/all of this run may not be useful due to clouds and moon. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon Checkout: ------------------- Clouds, high humidity (80 and up to 98%), but no rain. Cold, T=10C, wind up to 20 mph. We had some problem with rebooting of server, and Steph was working with it. Steph also had to reboot sdsshost2 because it did not work properly. All systems are checked and work fine. We started checkout late because of computer problems and I skipped checking of spectro focus because we plan supernova observations tonight. On one of the biases taken this afternoon (run 6345), there were checksum errors on ad2 and ad4. Details are in the Problems section. Night: ------ High humidity delayed ventilation and opening. The primary mig values for lateral E & F were off of the nominal values by .0635 and .0508, respectively. Relaxing the mirror brought everything back into spec. Both iop and mop seem to be running NOCVS versions now. From the startup of iop: IOP_VERSION=NOCVS:v4_26_0:/linuxp/prd/iop/v4_26_0 The cloud camera is showing a weird artifact (e.g. 04:36:00Z). The humidity let up and we mounted the imager and started ventilation around 05:35Z. While waiting to make sure the humidity was stable, we did an on-telescope bias (run 6347). We opened around 06:10Z and forced a spectro fill. The spectro fill took about 30 lbs, which seemed normal, but then as Dan was disconnecting the hoses to go on sky, sp2 started to fill again. The spectro auto-fill system was turned off. Dan's iop session lost it's TCC connection without giving any warning somewhere between 06:31Z and 06:35Z. 06:35Z Run 6348: 82 S. Skippy good from the beginning. Focus loop showed some odd behavior but finally converged around frame 21, lambda +145. The az aborted very early in this run: AxisStat:az (out_closed_loop amp_bad: 2006-09-15 06:46:26Z) An axis init followed by a track command cleared the axis and got it tracking again. Skippy runs immediately before the abort and after the axis was again tracking showed the pointing was not affected by the abort. The az then aborted again: AxisStat:az (out_closed_loop amp_bad: 2006-09-15 06:59:57Z) and again an axis init followed by a track command solved the problem. Clouds increased starting around 07:59Z. The drift ended at frame 249, lambda +179. All of this run should be usable. 09:04Z Run 6349: 82 S. Everything good from the beginning (frame 9, lambda -159.5). The seeing was called bad by seeingRun starting at frame 79, lambda -149 but it was still below 2" for the most part. Clouds and moon may have limited the usefulness of this run. The run was stopped at frame 107, lambda -144.8 due to high humidity. We're not sure how much, if any, of this run is usable. We closed around 10:10Z due to high humidity and did not reopen. endNight rejoiced. We force filled the spectro dewars, turned off the spectro auto-fill system and then swapped out the 180 l spectro dewar. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6344 23:25Z 23:33Z 100 O 54.26 56.26 25 ignore 6345 23:36Z 00:04Z 100 O 56.93 64.09 58 ignore 6347 05:46Z 06:01Z 100 O 149.85 153.52 39 bias on-telescope 6348 06:36Z 09:01Z 82 S 142.92 -180.73 257 science all good 6349 09:05Z 10:05Z 82 S -159.78 -144.56 115 science clouds, moon ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- See the main log. ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6348 52 4 63 -2.900 0.159 0.300 0.136 -0.00968 213 52 6348 104 4 54 -2.800 0.154 0.700 0.098 -0.00990 213 52 6348 156 4 36 -2.800 0.128 0.600 0.148 -0.00817 213 52 6348 209 4 49 -2.800 0.146 0.100 0.136 -0.00795 213 52 6349 12 4 41 -1.400 0.152 -2.200 0.081 -0.00182 179 57 6349 63 4 40 -1.600 0.123 -2.000 0.162 -0.00135 179 57 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6348 63 1 52 327 25 -1.719 0.170 2.371 0.206 -0.00797 6348 63 1 52 327 25 -1.386 0.172 2.523 0.134 -0.00848 6348 63 1 52 327 30 -0.861 0.162 2.628 0.225 -0.00883 6348 63 1 52 327 24 -0.796 0.200 2.838 0.286 -0.00954 6348 63 1 52 327 25 -0.422 0.274 2.901 0.347 -0.00975 6348 79 1 52 327 27 -1.272 0.154 1.981 0.135 -0.00666 6348 79 1 52 327 34 -0.943 0.161 2.149 0.180 -0.00723 6348 79 1 52 327 24 -0.550 0.177 2.303 0.218 -0.00774 6348 79 1 52 327 20 -0.194 0.159 2.363 0.235 -0.00795 6348 79 1 52 327 28 0.197 0.158 2.353 0.195 -0.00791 6348 115 1 52 327 23 -1.016 0.282 1.647 0.207 -0.00554 6348 115 1 52 327 27 -0.672 0.318 1.742 0.183 -0.00586 6348 115 1 52 327 16 -0.259 0.213 1.876 0.136 -0.00631 6348 115 1 52 327 18 0.107 0.262 1.973 0.176 -0.00663 6348 115 1 52 327 21 0.594 0.217 1.916 0.133 -0.00644 6348 131 1 52 327 22 -0.999 0.173 1.862 0.133 -0.00626 6348 131 1 52 327 17 -0.712 0.156 1.940 0.164 -0.00652 6348 131 1 52 327 16 -0.212 0.099 2.055 0.201 -0.00691 6348 131 1 52 327 17 -0.056 0.164 2.266 0.182 -0.00762 6348 131 1 52 327 17 0.281 0.131 2.184 0.300 -0.00734 6348 218 1 52 327 7 -1.097 0.175 1.082 0.345 -0.00364 6348 218 1 52 327 6 -0.826 0.198 1.166 0.278 -0.00392 6348 218 1 52 327 19 -0.349 0.149 1.525 0.270 -0.00513 6348 218 1 52 327 12 -0.118 0.140 1.732 0.181 -0.00582 6348 218 1 52 327 10 0.279 0.135 1.709 0.274 -0.00575 6348 236 1 52 327 12 -1.618 0.098 0.907 0.306 -0.00305 6348 236 1 52 327 15 -1.279 0.191 1.048 0.331 -0.00352 6348 236 1 52 327 10 -0.906 0.226 1.455 0.258 -0.00489 6348 236 1 52 327 12 -0.487 0.243 1.660 0.284 -0.00558 6348 236 1 52 327 7 -0.047 0.179 1.952 0.080 -0.00656 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): N/A UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 40663, plate -9999 ------- 22:54 40663 0.0 bias ----- sequence 40664, plate -9999 ------- 01:24 40664 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:56Z imager -33.10 0.0000 52.38 0.0000 62.49 0.0000 1.000000 09:12Z imager 1.18 0.0000 57.14 0.0000 90.84 0.0000 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:57Z imager 1.00000 0 -190 -98 -33 52.4 10.4 21 236 i'23 1.3" 08:59Z imager 1.00000 0 -303 -212 -33 52.4 10.2 12 265 i'23 1.3" 09:12Z imager 1.00000 0 -303 -198 1 57.1 9.9 13 262 i'23 1.6" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:35Z 53 48 18 215 (SW) 360 -
