APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday April 22, 2007 (MJD 54213) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan Steph Snedden Elena Malanushenko (day) Visitors: P.C. Guo (UF) Brian Lee (UF) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ShakeUp and Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Spectroscopy, clouds and shakeup tasks. The one plate that had signal was finished (plate 2389). Dithered flats were completed, after sp1 collimator actuator c, then sp2 collimator actuator c failed to move properly during the first two sets of dithered flats. The imager dewar needs changing in the morning. Last fill was at 5 am. Note that the TPM was unable to get M2 MIG values (the values in the TPM real-time display were red). We had no trouble actually moving M2 to focus, etc, so it looks like a TPM communication problem. Cartridge 3, guide fiber 2 was transmitting light over a little less than half the surface area, but it was not completely blocking light. We had one rotator abort at rotang=zero degrees. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- The telescope has been checked and prepared for observations. All systems are functioning properly. The collimation is set for 4C. ET team is doing some calibtarion for tomorrow ET run. 00:40Z - Began ventilation. Doors and louvers open, fans on. Cart 2, plate 2389 is mounted. The astro crate had no power going to it (None of the indicator lights were lit up) on any of its cards. We power-cycled the crate at the main switch on the back side, and it came back to life. A second bias was normal. Night: ------- We opened to mostly cloudy skies. We were eager to finish plate 2389, since ET starts tomorrow, and it needs just a little more signal to call it done. 02:16Z - Cartridge 2, plate 2389 - SEGUE bright FK5 in fiber 10 was found during twilight. We had to wait on-sky for a few minutes while the clouds cleared. This plate already had (S/N)^2=24 in b2. The plate was declared done with a total exposure time tonight of 2800 s. 03:53Z - Cartridge 1, plate 2610 - Legacy chunk 153 GSOGTF (barely). We took two exposures through moonlit clouds and could not get (S/N)^2 > 2. There was no way we could complete the plate tonight, so we decided to mount a cartridge that we had a chance of finishing. 05:26Z - Cartridge 3, plate 2157 - Legacy chunk 112 The rotator aborted at zero degrees as the slew started. One axis init cleared it. Guide stars on the edges of fibers 10 and 11. Guide fiber 2 was showing a little less than half its area illuminated during the guider flat. We ask that it be looked at. This plate was available for the remainder of the night and was farther from the Moon. We hoped that it might be possible to get enough signal to finish the plate if the clouds did not get worse. The clouds got worse. Only one exposure was obtained and it was declared bad. 06:52Z - Dithered flats sp2 actuator c did not return to its original position after the dithered flats. Since it looks like the problem happened early in the sequence, (although there were no error messages in the sop session), we redid the dithered flats. On the second try, sp2 did not return to the starting position. We tried a third set. Use the following images: flats: 44536 - 44550 arcs: 44551, 44552 endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6799 22:30Z 22:50Z 100 O -102.62 -97.77 46 ignore 6800 00:56Z 01:10Z 100 O -66.04 -62.65 37 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 44480, plate -9999 ------- 21:54 44480 0.0 bias 22:31 44481 0.0 bias ----- sequence 44481, plate 2389 ------- 23:02 44482 10.0 flat PostCal 23:04 44483 2.0 arc 23:13 44484 3.0 arc goSpecFoc 23:16 44485 3.0 arc ----- sequence 44486, plate -9999 ------- 00:27 44486 0.0 bias ----- sequence 44487, plate -9999 ------- 00:54 44487 0.0 bias ----- sequence 44488, plate 2389 ------- 02:47 44488 10.0 flat 02:50 44489 2.0 arc 03:23 44490 1801.0 target 03:43 44491 1001.0 target 03:46 44492 10.0 flat 03:48 44493 2.0 arc ----- sequence 44494, plate 2610 ------- 04:03 44494 10.0 flat 04:06 44495 2.0 arc 04:25 44496 901.0 target 04:59 44497 1803.0 target ----- sequence 44498, plate 2157 ------- 05:45 44498 10.0 flat 05:48 44499 2.0 arc 06:22 44500 1800.0 target 06:57 44501 10.0 flat 07:01 44502 10.0 flat 07:05 44503 10.0 flat 07:10 44504 10.0 flat 07:14 44505 10.0 flat 07:18 44506 10.0 flat 07:22 44507 10.0 flat 07:26 44508 10.0 flat 07:30 44509 10.0 flat 07:34 44510 10.0 flat 07:38 44511 10.0 flat 07:42 44512 10.0 flat 07:46 44513 10.0 flat 07:50 44514 10.0 flat 07:54 44515 10.0 flat 07:58 44516 2.0 arc 08:00 44517 2.0 arc 08:35 44518 10.0 flat 08:44 44519 10.0 flat 08:49 44520 10.0 flat 08:52 44521 10.0 flat 08:56 44522 10.0 flat 09:01 44523 10.0 flat 09:05 44524 10.0 flat 09:09 44525 10.0 flat 09:13 44526 10.0 flat 09:17 44527 10.0 flat 09:21 44528 10.0 flat 09:25 44529 10.0 flat 09:29 44530 10.0 flat 09:33 44531 10.0 flat 09:37 44532 10.0 flat 09:41 44533 10.0 flat 09:45 44534 2.0 arc 09:48 44535 2.0 arc 10:12 44536 10.0 flat 10:16 44537 10.0 flat 10:20 44538 10.0 flat 10:24 44539 10.0 flat 10:28 44540 10.0 flat 10:32 44541 10.0 flat 10:36 44542 10.0 flat 10:40 44543 10.0 flat 10:44 44544 10.0 flat 10:48 44545 10.0 flat 10:52 44546 10.0 flat 10:56 44547 10.0 flat 11:00 44548 10.0 flat 11:04 44549 10.0 flat 11:08 44550 10.0 flat 11:12 44551 2.0 arc 11:15 44552 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:53Z 2 2389 24.33 -0.0015 54.69 0.0016 200.25 0.0192 1.000060 04:11Z 1 2610 53.06 0.0038 70.43 0.0024 225.58 0.0075 1.000200 05:51Z 3 2157 87.95 0.0038 57.72 0.0024 249.40 0.0075 1.000160 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:53Z 2 2389 1.00006 -593 646 -30 24 54.7 7.6 19 215 - 1.5 04:11Z 1 2610 1.00020 -1975 -534 -30 53 70.4 7.7 25 218 - 1.4 05:51Z 3 2157 1.00016 -1580 -159 -10 88 57.7 6.8 17 212 - 1.4 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 20:24Z 49 5 14 241 (WSW) 983 - pcl 20:56Z 53 13 10 238 (WSW) 1055 - ' 21:28Z 52 13 18 229 (SW) 1107 - ' 21:59Z 51 10 14 231 (SW) 913 - ' 22:29Z 51 11 16 237 (WSW) 821 - ' 23:00Z 47 11 14 205 (SSW) 943 - ' 23:33Z 49 13 12 242 (WSW) 1149 - ' 00:41Z 48 15 19 213 (SSW) 909 - ' 01:12Z 46 16 15 208 (SSW) 940 - ' 01:44Z 43 15 15 216 (SW) 973 - ' 02:17Z 43 12 17 189 (S) 959 - ' 02:49Z 45 10 24 213 (SSW) 1033 - mostly cloudy 03:21Z 45 10 24 208 (SSW) 966 - ' 03:52Z 45 10 15 204 (SSW) 1080 - ' 04:23Z 43 11 21 215 (SW) 1099 - ' 04:54Z 43 11 17 235 (SW) 1216 - ' 05:24Z 43 12 16 210 (SSW) 1208 - ' 05:56Z 44 13 17 220 (SW) 1277 - ' 06:29Z 44 13 20 202 (SSW) 1369 - ' 07:02Z 44 13 23 224 (SW) 1401 - ' 07:34Z 43 14 17 226 (SW) 1488 - ' 08:05Z 43 14 18 239 (WSW) 1363 - ' 08:35Z 43 13 18 242 (WSW) 1242 - ' 09:07Z 43 13 17 234 (SW) 1063 - ' 09:39Z 42 13 11 256 (WSW) 1063 - ' 10:11Z 41 13 17 240 (WSW) 1101 - ' 10:43Z 39 14 17 234 (SW) 1160 - partly cloudy 11:15Z 38 14 14 249 (WSW) 1161 - ' ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:00Z - Started ventilation 01:47Z - Opened enclosure 11:16Z - Closed enclosure.
