APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday June 6, 2008 (MJD 54624) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Steph Snedden Kaike Pan Audrey Simmons (swing) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had excellent conditions: photometric sky and 1.1" seeing. we finished one segue faint plate: 2189, and added signals on other three faint plates: 2546, 2926, and 2934. Two of them are almost done. Spectro dewar needs to be replaced after one more fill. We had a problem in getting mirroe numbers afternoon (see log). A PR is filled. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- SOS returned an error for being unable to reduce arc exposure #53285 because it needed a flat (but flat #53284 reduced just fine in SOS). I tried running sos_redo on these exposures, but it made no difference. goSpecFoc was already running when this error appeared (so #53286-53287 weren't reduced either). I started over by taking another postCal and running goSpecFoc again. There were no problems this time. Spectro collimation set for ~14C tonight. Mounted cart 8, plate 2926. 01:25Z - Began ventilating with the doors and louvers open, fans on. Encountered the same problem as on the past shakedown where the mirror numbers could not be gathered. When the command 'm4l' was issued, it hung and eventually spit out: 'Timed out waiting for the TCC to respond We are missing: SecCmdMount SecActMount SecOrient' When I logged into HOST TCC_SEC, it spit back a bunch of 'stuff' (see problem section). The secondary galil on the telescope was checked: all of the connections seemed to be seeded okay (that could be reached), then the galil was reset. I homed the secondary and tried taking the mirror numbers with 'm4l', as well as within in the log, and both returned the numbers just fine. Night: ------ 02:20Z enclosure off. 03:00Z setup for cart 8, plate 2926 (segue faint). 04:30Z precalib. 04:35Z first exposure. Three 1500 s exposures gave us a S/N^2 of 25.3. Seeing was a variable during exposures. It changes between 1.1 to over 2.0". 05:10Z cart 3, plate 2934 (segue faint). SOGTF. We obtained two 1500 s exposures. The lowest S/N^2 is 12.3 on r1. Seeing was good during exposures. 06:25Z cart 7, plate 2189 (faint). SOGTF. Seeing was good at 1.0". The plate was DONE with a total integration time of 5700 S.
