APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday June 8, 2009 (MJD 54991) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Alaina Shelden Dan Oravetz Jon Brinkman (support) Steph Snedden (support) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- MARVELS Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The night was lost to clouds and a little bit of rain. Shake Tasks Completed --------------------- + Home/Relax mirrors + Check sdsshost2 uptime and disk space + Test MCP/TCC on faster network (1/2 done) ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ========= 00:51Z - Started ventilation. 01:19Z - Overflow light on the spectro crate--refused to read out images. Turned out to be a terminal server error--it was reset by Jon. Configuration card possibly loose. 01:33Z - Otherwise, checkout had no problems. Disk space: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda3 142G 119G 16G 89% / /dev/sda1 99M 30M 64M 33% /boot /dev/sdb1 917G 755G 116G 87% /data sdssfiles1p:/data1/data 1.5T 599G 794G 44% /files sdsshost2.apo.nmsu.edu % uptime 09:15:11 up 31 days, 8:34, 68 users, load average: 0.24, 0.43, 0.45 Collimate was not run because no adjustments have been made to the spectro collimator motors and they have been right on the money the last few nights under the current configuration. Overcast conditions prevented us from opening on time. Night ===== Lots of clouds. Jon's test (testing TCC and MCP no faster network) ********** The test entailed disconnecting the TCC and MCP ethernet cable in the lower enclosure and in the computer room from the older and slower exclusive network they were running on and then connecting them to a giga-bit network switch (supposed to be one in the lower enclosure and one in the computer room) to gauge timing and communications and to see how the existing hardware would respond to the perhaps-more-sensitive giga-bit network switches. The test is halfway done because we were able to connect the computer room's MCP/TCC ethernet cable to the giga-bit network switch and test operations, but the requisite hardware is still in the ordering phase that must be installed in the lower enclosure to complete the second half of the test. We let the telescope track for about an hour while simultaneously monitoring the Watcher and TCC and taking biases to see if anything would hang or time out and everything worked fine without any obvious errors or issues. So, once the hardware arrives for the lower enclosure, we can test that, too. Home/Relax Mirrors ****************** We forced a fill before we began so that we wouldn't have to worry about having the LN2 autofill lines disconnected while we were homing and relaxing. Stopped ventilation. 10:08Z - We still had lots and lots of clouds, and lots of nearby radar, so we called it quits for tonight. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 61586, plate -9999 ------- 01:10 61586 0.0 bias 01:15 61587 0.0 bias 01:27 61588 0.0 bias 01:47 61590 0.0 bias ----- sequence 61591, plate 3277 ------- 01:50 61591 0.0 bias ----- sequence 61592, plate -9999 ------- 02:57 61592 0.0 bias 03:25 61593 0.0 bias 03:34 61594 0.0 bias 03:37 61595 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 01:05Z 59 18 15 261 (W) 1019 - clouds 01:35Z 59 17 17 256 (WSW) 885 - clouds 02:06Z 58 16 17 243 (WSW) 833 - clouds 02:37Z 58 15 21 259 (W) 721 - clouds 03:08Z 57 15 22 240 (WSW) 711 - clouds 03:40Z 57 16 15 243 (WSW) 754 - clouds 06:08Z 54 16 18 257 (WSW) 772 - clouds 06:41Z 54 16 20 266 (W) 705 - clouds 07:12Z 53 17 13 266 (W) 703 - clouds 07:43Z 52 19 21 265 (W) 734 - clouds 08:13Z 52 20 14 263 (W) 795 - clouds 08:43Z 53 19 22 273 (W) 876 - clouds 09:13Z 53 19 11 265 (W) 1047 - clouds 09:44Z 53 20 19 266 (W) 908 - clouds ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:51Z - Began ventilation.
