APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday August 29, 2009 (MJD 55073) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Steph Snedden Kaike Pan Robert Lupton (PU) Paul Harding (CWRU) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Continue to work new guider software. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Auto filling problem: see log. Contine debugging work on guider software. Good progress has been made. But there are still some problems to be resolved. Major problem is to find correct orientation of guiding stars on plates. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ----------- When we tried to start logTool, it asked for administrator's password. We just skipped by clicking on concel. 01:30Z swap imager dewar 01:30Z it is raining All systems were checked and no problem to report. Night: ------ 02:50 Start ventilation. 03:10Z it is partly cloudy, but clouds are coming to us. 03:20Z mount cartridge 11 and take the enclosure off. LN2 filling problem: 03:30Z started a forced fill at auto mode. Both spectrograph stopped after taking about 9 ln from 180 l dewar. Then we put to manual mode, Another 40 lb was taken before SP 1 started spurt out liquid N2. we put switch for SP1 back to auto that stopped SP1 filling, and let SP2 continue to fill. SP2 took another 5 lb before started to sprayed air. We let it run for more than 5 minutes, it did not spray out liquid N2. We also noticed that liquid N2 was keeping to drop out from female connector (from 180 L to 10 L dewar) during the filling process on SP2. The whole filling process take more than 35 minutes. 04:50Z ad1 minitor ad1 below out. It smoked and was unplugged. 05:05Z mounted cartridge 1, MARVELS plate. Swap spectrograph dewar. guiding on the MARVELS plate can be excuted properly. 10:20Z cart 10. 07:15Z mounted cartridge 11. There are several problems related to how find correct orientation of guiding stars. Robert and Paul think some of problems are related to mapping, database, plate design. 12:00: mount cartrdige 12. 12:10Z enclosure on. 12:20Z endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- 8014 01:52Z 02:10Z 100 O 75.62 80.06 44 ignore 8015 04:45Z 05:31Z 100 O 118.91 130.54 88 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- 01:50Z 56 36 19 121 (ESE) 613 - 02:22Z 57 37 8 91 (E) 630 - 02:54Z 58 34 6 95 (E) 646 - cloudy 03:26Z 61 31 3 48 (NE) 590 - 03:58Z 60 31 4 98 (E) 586 - 04:31Z 60 32 3 92 (E) 599 - cloudy 05:03Z 57 37 11 134 (SE) 1018 - 05:35Z 56 38 16 131 (SE) 1053 - 06:07Z 56 39 17 128 (SE) 1160 - 06:39Z 55 39 13 112 (ESE) 1111 - 07:11Z 54 40 15 109 (ESE) 1266 - 07:44Z 54 40 9 104 (ESE) 1170 - 08:16Z 51 40 18 78 (ENE) 1170 - 08:48Z 50 41 14 88 (E) 1667 - 09:20Z 50 40 12 84 (E) 1548 - 09:52Z 50 39 10 86 (E) 1423 - 10:24Z 50 39 8 103 (ESE) 1527 - 10:57Z 52 39 7 105 (ESE) 1446 - 11:29Z 53 39 9 126 (SE) 1249 - 12:01Z 54 39 1 158 (SSE) 1315 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 02:50Z - Began ventilation.
