APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday December 5, 2001 (MJD 52249) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Eric Neilsen Dan Long Atsuko Kleinman (swing) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- At sunset it was clearly too cloudy to do any sort of science, so we put the imager on and shook, checked the collimation on the few stars we could see, and tested the new DA. Both the collimation andthe new DA looked good. After a futile attempt ad observing a plate, we close. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- It is too cloudy to do science at sunset; we will use the time to shake the imager related stuff we didn't get to during the official shake. We found that iop v3_64_3 was made incorrectly (probably an unnoticed semaphore problem during the sdssmake) so that the murmur log started by it was comming out funny. In cutting and installing the tip of the branch again, only to notice there were some changes on the end of the branch we didn't want. So, I reinstall the IOP tagged v3_64_3 as v3_64_3a. This corrected the problems. We then begin an imaging scen and get it into focus. We then test the DAs sending of UDP packets with psf information for the focus loop, following Don Holmgren's instructions. We turn on the sending of focus packets using: im> iccExec -riskyOn control ad1 {exec focusSendFlagOn} and look at the results using $ASTROLINE_DIR/bin focus_sendTest We start getting stars. We try to increas the number of stars sent using statusSet alfocusFTcnt 200 but don't see any different in the number of stars sent. Given how cloudy it is at the time of the test, there may simply not be that many stars detected to send. Finally, we turn it off: im> iccExec -riskyOn control ad1 {exec focusSendFlagOff} We then go on to check collimation. It looks very good in all dewars except for dewar 1, which looks worse than the rest. The stars there are still not unevenly illumated, but the donuts appear thinner on the left than on the right. The collimation data observed runs from fram 80 to 85 or so of run 2757. (The focus difference in this range was +370 from best focus.) Donuts look good on the other side of focus (-370) as well (frames 90-95 or so). After checking the collimation, the nominal mirrors values were reset to the current values. It then cleared up enough to attempt spectroscopy. We mount cartridge 5. We set up on it successfully, after a large offset. It rapidly becomes apparrent that it is too cloudy to take useful data, and we close. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2757 10 N ignore 173.75 -169.36 127 collimation and DA test ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- 2757 23 4 47 -0.800 0.137 -7.600 0.095 -0.00239 2757 58 4 54 -0.800 0.119 -7.500 0.117 0.00078 2757 111 4 50 -0.900 0.568 -7.700 0.641 0.00099 2757 115 4 43 -0.500 0.095 -7.900 0.108 0.00038 2757 115 4 43 -0.500 0.095 -7.900 0.108 0.00038 2757 115 4 43 -0.500 0.095 -7.900 0.108 0.00038 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- 2757 35 1 3 -1.927 1.942 1.877 1.880 -0.00631 2757 35 1 4 -1.569 1.581 1.657 1.661 -0.00557 2757 35 1 7 -1.563 1.571 1.826 1.844 -0.00614 2757 35 1 6 -1.499 1.504 1.882 1.885 -0.00633 2757 35 1 5 -1.301 1.312 1.861 1.867 -0.00626 2757 108 1 8 0.391 0.439 0.104 0.239 -0.00035 2757 108 1 10 0.212 0.297 0.058 0.247 -0.00019 2757 108 1 4 0.169 0.202 0.005 0.076 -0.00002 2757 108 1 8 -0.159 0.260 -0.176 0.244 0.00059 2757 108 1 9 -0.600 0.639 -0.217 0.256 0.00073 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 12069, plate 751 ------- 04:16 12069 10.0 flat 04:18 12070 2.0 arc 04:42 12071 1200.0 target 05:04 12072 1201.0 target 05:23 12073 721.0 target ----- sequence 12074, plate -9999 ------- 06:32 12074 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 20:03 imager 1007607827 0.000000 0.000000 -0.009000 1.000000 21:13 5 751 1007612019 0.003903 0.001783 -0.023080 0.999650 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: none Stays: none ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 19:36 imager 1.00000 0 -481 -375 0 57.3 2.5 7 260 20:03 imager 1.00000 0 -495 -390 0 57.3 1.4 5 264 21:13 5 751 0.99965 3455 3972 -50 -65 56.6 1.4 7 231 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 18:41 36 -30 4 266 (W) 241 - cloudy 19:18 36 -28 6 267 (W) 282 - cloudy 19:50 35 -28 6 245 (WSW) 371 - cloudy 20:22 34 -28 2 234 (SW) 487 - cloudy 20:54 34 -29 9 227 (SW) 586 - cloudy 21:27 34 -26 8 240 (WSW) 643 - cloudy 21:59 34 -28 4 264 (W) 615 - cloudy 22:31 34 -31 9 269 (W) 694 - cloudy 23:03 34 -30 3 277 (W) 592 - cloudy 23:36 35 -29 9 270 (W) 572 - cloudy 00:08 36 -29 5 283 (WNW) 478 - cloudy 00:40 36 -30 11 267 (W) 456 - cloudy 01:12 35 -30 10 273 (W) 463 - cloudy 01:48 36 -30 9 288 (WNW) 507 - cloudy 02:21 35 -31 13 313 (NW) 554 - cloudy 02:53 35 -31 7 284 (WNW) 531 - cloudy 03:25 35 -30 13 303 (WNW) 424 - cloudy 03:57 35 -31 15 300 (WNW) 505 - cloudy 04:29 35 -31 13 315 (NW) 419 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Stowed at 30 deg alt, cartridge 5 installed.
