If we can image, we will go for 14 S followed by 30 S as soon as it is available. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Good imaging on 14 S from lambda=-62 to +32. One plate finished (613), and another one started. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- The dust counts were low and the only clouds were near the horizon at sunset, so we set up for imaging. We started with 14 S, and imaged through mostly good seeing except for the first 50 frames. See the imaging details section for frame ranges where seeing was not good. There was a threat of clouds from the NW, so at 0530Z we made the decision to stay with strip 14 S, rather than go to the higher priority strip 30 S. Our rationale was that all data we collected on 14 S would be good until the advent of clouds, but if we started a new run, we would need one full hour of cloud-free weather for the run to be good, and that was a risky bet. We had a teamster strike. Details are in the problems section. At 0900Z, Steph's session on monx1 completely died, leaving her back at the login prompt, with no processes left running after she logged back in. Fortunately, she was not flying. The night landing of space shuttle Columbia was spectacular. It left a trail across the southern sky from horizon to horizon that lasted for several minutes. At this time, clouds started to come in. The last part of our imaging drift was not photometric (see imaging details). 1024Z Switched to spectroscopy. Cartridge 2, plate 613. Needed an FK5 to find the field. Finished this plate in three exposures (it did have S/N from a previous night). 1127Z Cartridge 1, plate 615. Found stars in most fibers on slewing to the field. Couldn't finish this one, because of twilight, but got good signal in one exposure (11.0 was the lowest (S/N)^2). We think we were in the clear, but it is possible this data is no good. Seeing went from good to bad from about frames 565-580, then back to good. Mar 12 00:25:46 sdsshost TMS 150733 dsc_E_shareLost Access to shared data area at 0x18000000 lost Atsuko issued a teamster -force 60, but we did not see any gang transfers at first, so we woke up Eric. He suggested we try ptvmeTest before a ptvmeReset, but we did not get the syntax right until well after the fact, after waking up Ron & digging out Jon B.'s email. The ptvmeTest info is below, but gang archiving had resumed by the time we issued ptvmeTest properly, so it is probably not useful info. We believe that forcing the teamster fixed the problem, but wish we'd gotten the ptvme diagnostic. Atsuko folklored Jon's email under the DA section. The IOP ptvmeTest command should probably be rewritten, or aliased, or at the very least, given a help string with the info relevant to our nodes. A PR was filed.
