We finished this stripe. 28N lambda 41.4 -->58 was done before moonrise. Since there were only 30min of the scan left (i.e. unlikely that we will go back to finish the stripe later), we continued until the end of the strip (lambda66). We saw no watcher sky errors while we obtained the data in the moon. Spectro in the moon cart 9 plate 1034 (lowz plate) We got 3 more exposure on this plate. We are 2/3 done on this plate. New counter weight positions. Mike found from last night and tonight that the counter weight positions to balance the telescope have changed from the last dark run. These positions are verified by Steph as well. The new positions are: imager -- 680 spectro -- 240 ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing shift: ------------ Afternoon checkout went without problems. I (steph) agree with Mike that the new counterweight position for the spectrographs is at 240. Mike says the new imager counterweight position is 680. I will update the counterweight web page. Spectro focus checked and adjusted. Details after the problems section. Night: -------- Familiar TPM watcher errors are still with us. Imager mounted before sunset. We could not open due to dust at sunset. We wait. DIMM --- Steph thinks the pointing problem might possibly related to timing problem and will invetigate more on Monday. 03:15Z Dust count is below 2000. We open. 03:30Z Slew to 16N -- highest pri stripe. Run 3996 16N Frame 27 lambda 21.9 Everything good (pointing, seeing, focus all in spec). Frame 47 Lambda 25 official end of twilight. Secondary focus seem to prefer to be closer to CCD90 (green line) rather than CCD60 (red) and not stay in the middle of the two. -- Once the mirror was at equibrillium, the secondary focus was in the middle of the red and green lines in the focus plot. Frame 106 CCD53 There is a very tortured galaxy. 04:44Z "No gangs" watcher warning -- death of TMS. We restarted the TMS and all was well. PHew. We thought it was the sign of ptvme problem. 06:28Z Frame 303 Lambda 63 end of drift. 06:33Z Slew to 28N Run 3997 28N Frame 10 Lambda 41.4 pointing, seeing are good. Frame 121 Lambda 58.0 official moonrise. We have half an hour more of imaging to do before the stripe is done. We will keep on going and hope some of the data in moon is usable since we will probably not go back to get the last 30min of this stripe later. Frame 146 amabda 61.8 SoKent reports the seeing is now acceptable. No sky-too-bright error yet. Frame 175 Lambda 66.1 end of the drift. Still no sky errors from watcher. This run started out with sub" seeing and climbed slowly up as we imaged. We got few watcher seeing errors towards the end, but SoKent said the data are good to acceptable throughout the run. Run 3998 donuts Frame 11 in-focus focus=-533 Frame 15 +300 out of focus (focus=-233) Frame 19 -300 out of focus (focus=-833) Still no sky errors.... The watcher still catches when the sky is too bright, doesn't it? Run 3999 on-scope bias The first attempt to get bias got "Lock operation failed" message and did not start the bias. See the problem section. Second attempt succeeded in starting the bias drift. 09:00Z Switched to Spectro Cart 9 Plate 1034 Guide stars on gotoField. We got three 20min science exposures and smear. We are 2/3 done on this plate.
