APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday March 25, 2004 (MJD 53090) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Howard Brewington Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We declared four plates dones and got some signal on another. The dust counter at the PT is not working. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon Checkout ------------------- Spectro r1/XMAX was adjusted because it was in the yellow, and we noticed after our first flat of the night that XMAX was back in the black. The spectro focus was not adjusted, however. Night ------------------- At twilight, we had some moon and lots of clouds, so we started with Spectro. 02:16Z Cartridge 07, Plate 1780 (chunk93). An Fk5 star was used to find the field in bright twilight. But, we had to clear the offsets and then offset the scope -10" in Dec. Plate was completed in three exposures. 03:55Z Cartridge 03, Plate 1600 (chunk77). After some fishing, an Fk5 star was needed to find the field after clearing the offsets. During the first exposure of this plate, we got a guider error; see problmes section for details. Then, we had some very thick cloud cover get in the way of doing science. Nevertheless, this plate was finished in three exposures. 07:25Z Cartridge 05, Plate 1454 (chunk68). We had to use spiralPattern to find the field. However, we are not sure spiraPattern is working properly. Once the Fk5 was located with this command, we hit the Return button, which shoud make spiralPattern backup one exposure. This did not happen for some reason. This was also the case last night. We had to manually input the offsets displayed in the SOP session (per spiralPattern) to find the field. This plate was finished in three exposures. 08:25Z Cartridge 01, Plate 1370 (chunk68). No guide stars on goToField nor an Fk5, so it's back to spiralPattern again. This plate was finished in three exposures. 09:13Z We noticed that the new dust counter (mounted at the PT) was reading zero although the 3.5-meter counter seemed to be working properly. 09:43Z Cartridge 06, Plate 1773 (chunk92). Had to use spiralPattern again to find the field. We got one exposure before clouds became a problem. 10:65Z Cartridge 04, Plate 1382 (chunk69). Gudide stars on goToField, but clouds would not allow us to capture an photons. endNight finished and was happy. Misc. Watcher errors in problems section. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4531 23:46Z 00:02Z 100 O -110.54 -106.38 40 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 25853, plate -9999 ------- 23:28 25853 0.0 bias 23:39 25854 0.0 bias ----- sequence 25855, plate 1385 ------- 00:33 25855 10.0 flat 00:35 25856 2.0 arc 00:41 25857 10.0 flat 00:44 25858 2.0 arc ----- sequence 25859, plate 1780 ------- 02:28 25859 10.0 flat 02:31 25860 2.0 arc 02:51 25861 900.1 target 03:14 25862 1200.1 target 03:43 25863 1500.1 target ----- sequence 25864, plate 1600 ------- 04:00 25864 10.0 flat 04:03 25865 2.0 arc 04:35 25866 900.1 target 06:22 25867 900.1 target 06:40 25868 900.1 target 07:06 25869 1200.1 target 07:09 25870 10.0 flat 07:12 25871 2.0 arc ----- sequence 25872, plate 1454 ------- 07:34 25872 10.0 flat 07:36 25873 2.0 arc 07:56 25874 900.1 target 08:09 25875 600.1 target 08:23 25876 600.1 target ----- sequence 25877, plate 1370 ------- 08:42 25877 10.0 flat 08:45 25878 2.0 arc 09:05 25879 900.1 target 09:23 25880 900.1 target 09:38 25881 720.1 target ----- sequence 25882, plate 1773 ------- 10:00 25882 10.0 flat 10:02 25883 2.0 arc 10:23 25884 900.1 target 10:46 25885 1200.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:38Z 7 1780 171.20 -0.0070 71.65 0.0053 -11.77 -0.0229 1.000350 04:08Z 3 1600 44.43 0.0039 61.94 0.0001 216.82 0.0000 1.000340 06:05Z 3 1600 -25.24 0.0103 66.64 0.0047 158.50 0.0152 1.000290 07:40Z 5 1454 198.26 -0.0111 79.83 0.0065 20.80 -0.0054 1.000270 08:50Z 1 1370 232.15 -0.0014 65.56 0.0077 69.60 0.0022 1.000230 10:08Z 6 1773 -64.49 0.0048 56.41 0.0056 128.30 -0.0047 1.000090 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL7360 Stays: JL7361 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:37Z 7 1780 1.00035 -3455 -1507 225 171 71.6 9.4 8 237 gdr 1.3 04:07Z 3 1600 1.00034 -3356 -1581 50 45 61.9 8.6 8 225 gdr 1.3 06:06Z 3 1600 1.00029 -2863 -1233 0 -25 66.6 8.9 12 242 gdr 1.3 07:41Z 5 1454 1.00027 -2665 -1088 0 199 79.8 8.7 10 230 gdr 1.0 08:50Z 1 1370 1.00023 -2270 -741 0 232 65.6 8.7 11 261 gdr 1.1 10:08Z 6 1773 1.00009 -889 476 50 -64 56.4 8.4 13 253 gdr 1.2 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:19Z 50 19 10 216 (SW) 364 - thin clouds 23:52Z 53 18 15 253 (WSW) 373 - 00:24Z 54 20 9 264 (W) 312 - 00:56Z 49 19 14 217 (SW) 456 - 01:28Z 48 19 14 204 (SSW) 507 - 02:01Z 49 19 14 203 (SSW) 655 - thin clouds 02:32Z 49 18 12 233 (SW) 510 - 03:04Z 48 18 5 261 (W) 464 - 03:37Z 46 19 5 198 (SSW) 478 - 04:07Z 47 17 8 224 (SW) 419 - thin clouds 04:38Z 48 15 11 218 (SW) 402 - 05:09Z 47 15 9 215 (SW) 414 - 05:41Z 47 15 12 222 (SW) 426 - 06:12Z 47 13 8 259 (W) 435 - clouds 06:45Z 48 11 5 255 (WSW) 400 - 07:15Z 48 11 10 231 (SW) 423 - 07:48Z 47 14 10 234 (SW) 467 - 08:19Z 48 15 12 239 (WSW) 462 - clouds 08:49Z 47 15 12 249 (WSW) 0 - 09:21Z 48 15 14 238 (WSW) 0 - 09:53Z 47 14 7 253 (WSW) 0 - 10:24Z 47 15 9 249 (WSW) 0 - thin clouds 10:55Z 47 14 10 259 (W) 0 - 11:26Z 47 14 10 267 (W) 0 - 11:56Z 45 15 10 265 (W) 0 - clouds ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00.50Z Doors cracked and fans on. 01:17Z Enclosure off 04:50Z Enclosure on, fans off, LN2 connected and turned.
