APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday May 15, 2004 (MJD 53141) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Jurek Krzesinksi Howard Brewington Mike Harvanek (swing) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science and collimation after moonrise. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Due to bad weather conditions we opened 1 hour before morning twilight. We've done one plate (1417). Seeing was to bad at the beginning to get collimation done. Then it had improved, but it was too late to switch to imager. We've got similar to last night guider problems (delays between issuing guider commands and executing them by tcc, a few start/stop guide commands were necessary for the guider to start the job. This time we didn't have to reboot guider mac). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Spectro collimation checked; no adjustment needed. Details in the Problems section. Night ----- Not a good weather at the beginning of the night, rain and thunderstorms, but there might be some improvement on the second half. 04:46Z We opened doors and switched fans on. 09:24Z Still cloudy, but it is better. We opened with cart 7 plt. 1417 mounted. 3.5m telescope got seeing around 2". So we decided it's too bad for collimation. To our surprise, at our telescope the seeing was better than 2" (about 1.8"). Not good enough to get collimation done, but we can probably get some signal on that plate through the clouds. We 've got similar to yesterday's guider behavior. We had to stop/ restart it a few times before we've got it working. There were also huge delays between issuing guider commands and tccmon countdowns. Clouds are getting thinner and seeing is getting better. We ended up with a photometric weather after twlilight and got a very good S/N on this plate. Plate done. When we slew the telescope to instrument change postion, GUI complained about a command timed out, but we checked the telescope position and mounted cartridge without any problems. Anyway we cut and paste that error message into the problem section. endNight finished without a problem. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4636 23:58Z 00:16Z 100 O -57.16 -52.72 44 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 26698, plate -9999 ------- 23:53 26698 0.0 bias ----- sequence 26699, plate 1643 ------- 23:59 26699 10.0 flat collimation 00:02 26700 2.0 arc " 00:04 26701 2.1 arc " 00:07 26702 2.1 arc " 02:10 26705 0.0 bias ----- sequence 26706, plate 1417 ------- 09:33 26706 10.0 flat 09:35 26707 2.0 arc plate done 10:01 26708 1200.1 target 10:24 26709 1200.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 09:41Z imager 255.29 0.0010 60.68 -0.0005 95.42 -0.0008 1.000060 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL7539 Stays: JL7540 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 09:41Z 7 1417 1.00006 -593 710 50 255 60.7 9.7 12 176 gdr 1.8 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:40Z 58 40 9 229 (SW) 759 - 00:11Z 56 43 15 141 (SE) 1246 - 02:25Z 48 40 8 91 (E) 875 - 02:57Z 48 39 19 108 (ESE) 862 - 03:29Z 47 40 19 110 (ESE) 850 - 04:01Z 48 36 18 112 (ESE) 613 - 04:34Z 47 36 16 126 (SE) 525 - 05:06Z 48 35 19 133 (SE) 507 - 05:38Z 49 33 13 152 (SSE) 552 - 06:10Z 50 32 12 174 (S) 900 - 06:42Z 52 31 9 180 (S) 987 - 07:13Z 53 30 13 190 (S) 948 - 07:44Z 52 29 15 203 (SSW) 791 - 08:16Z 52 30 17 181 (S) 808 - 08:48Z 49 32 12 166 (SSE) 648 - 09:22Z 51 30 15 179 (S) 704 - 09:52Z 50 31 15 181 (S) 762 - 10:22Z 51 30 11 171 (S) 945 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 04:40Z Enclosure doors opened, fans on. 09:24Z Finaly we opened. ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_137_0 Watcher: v2_29_0 MCP: v5_25_0 TPM: tpm_v2_42_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: TCC 2.7.2 November 11 2003 sdssProcedures: v1_90 SoS: v4_10_7 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.5360 0.5430 Axial B 0.6210 0.6240 Axial C 1.2230 1.2260 Trans D -8.4500 -8.4440 Lateral E 10.8585 10.8712 Lateral F 10.8331 10.8458 GALILS Commanded: 4600. -2850. 850. -9250. 18400. 17850.
