APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday August 24, 2005 (MJD 53607) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Jurek Krzesinski Night: Dan Long John Barentine Support: Eric Neilsen Kurt Biery Kaike Pan Cameo: Mike Harvanek Howard Brewington ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- DA Shake ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Clouds, humidity, nearby lightning, and the odd raindrop kept us closed all night. The night's highlights include: -New nominal MiG values with optics homed and relaxed. -Successful binned bias taken with the new DA -tccmon, sorry, tccMon now runs on devel1. Now all it needs is TCC info. (see below). -Work on endNight to describe run-by-run account of unarchived frames -Eric also tested the command to retrieve unarchived frames from the pool -No TCC info in imager frames probably due to TCC being on the opposite side of the public/private fence from the DA nodes. -Possibly in a similar vein, there is no mcp traffic in the murmur log -We found at the end of the night that it is possible to have two logTools with editable active! ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- guider mac and nfs ================== Thanks to Fritz's efforts, the guider mac now does the nfs mounting at startup, so you shouldn't have to do it by hand any longer. m4l failure: ============ It was failing due to the lack of a /data/astro/mirrors directory and its contents on devel1. Eric added the relevant directory and associated files, and it was happy after that. New Nominal Mig Values ====================== With m4l working and mirrors homed and relaxed, a new nominal set of MiG values was saved. Note that the difference was almost entirely in transverse (D). These values will need to be tweaked if the collimation check indicates a change is needed. tccMon ====== Eric fixed a bug in tccmon (now tccMon) on devel1. There was a problem starting the tccMonitor in which it kept repeating that a child process aborted abnormally. watch> tkerror failed to handle background error. Original error: 24 80 child process exited abnormally Error in tkerror: 24 80 child process exited abnormally tkerror failed to handle background error. No TCC info in imager frames ============================ No TCC info in headers of imager frames. This is true whether or not the telescope is tracking or whether or not a startDa -tcc was done from the iop starting the drift. After discussion with Eric and Kurt, this is almost certainly because the TCC is on the public side and the DA is on the private side. This should not be a problem once the TCC is moved to the private side. There is also no mcp traffic in the murmur log, specifically no tLatch. Could this also be a private vs. public network issue? WVAC ==== Lots of water poured out of the box containing the 2.5m enclosure air conditioner when the exhaust fan was switched on. French mentioned it could have been from the spectrographic corrector washing today and may have collected somewhere which was released when the dampers were switched to exhaust. Spectrographs ============= Kurt continued his debugging efforts. He looking at the interrupts for the VCI boards, which seem to stop before the data is read. Binned bias ============ We tried a binned bias (Run 5514, 2x2) to test the DA. There were no problems starting the drift. Astroline never seemed to find the bias level, but if I remember right, this was true before DA change as well. Also same as before, no gangs are generated. endNight and unarchived frames ============================== Eric worked on scripts to translate frames to fields and on the part of endNight which will get unarchived frames should any be found to be missing. One problem will be with binned scans where there are no gangs to start with. endNight was modified to give the numbers of missing frames and gangs on a run-by-run basis. logTool Editability =================== It is possible now on devel1 to have two logTools actively editable. This is obviously not a good thing. Until Eric sorts this one out, it is probably best to only have one logTool running at a time. Note that the weather data stopped being updated around the time the second logTool was made editable (see next item). Log Weather Data ================ For the last couple of nights there have been long gaps in the weather log. Not sure why (see previous item). However, if you want to add a line manually, use the iop command marmotWeather. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5511 00:18Z 00:39Z 100 O 47.11 52.31 49 ignore 5512 02:12Z 02:17Z 100 O 75.58 76.89 23 ignore 5513 02:18Z 02:36Z 100 O 77.17 81.60 33 ignore 5514 02:59Z 03:19Z 100 O 87.39 92.56 64 ignore 5515 03:25Z 03:43Z 100 O 93.95 98.49 44 ignore 5516 05:00Z 05:14Z 100 O 117.68 121.25 38 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 33458, plate -9999 ------- 00:07 33458 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33459, plate -9999 ------- 00:29 33459 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33460, plate -9999 ------- 00:39 33460 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33461, plate -9999 ------- 01:11 33461 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33462, plate -9999 ------- 02:05 33462 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33462, plate -9999 ------- 02:05 33462 0.0 bias 02:08 33463 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33464, plate -9999 ------- 02:19 33464 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33465, plate -9999 ------- 04:54 33465 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33466, plate -9999 ------- 05:19 33466 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33467, plate -9999 ------- 05:37 33467 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:29Z 64 49 6 257 (WSW) 192 - Partly Cloudy 00:59Z 61 49 6 247 (WSW) 201 - Partly Cloudy 01:32Z 58 48 4 260 (W) 229 - Mostly Cloudy 03:47Z 56 47 6 236 (SW) 269 - Mostly Cloudy 04:29Z 56 48 2 223 (SW) 192 - Cloudy 05:03Z 57 48 14 184 (S) 280 - Cloudy 05:40Z 56 49 3 195 (SSW) 270 - Lt Rain 06:18Z 57 49 4 188 (S) 287 - Cloudy 07:00Z 57 49 5 183 (S) 308 - Cloudy 07:30Z 57 49 5 184 (S) 293 - Cloudy 08:00Z 57 49 5 186 (S) 277 - Cloudy 08:30Z 56 53 8 173 (S) 408 - Cloudy 09:02Z 55 53 11 149 (SSE) 384 - Mostly Cloudy 09:32Z 55 53 9 123 (ESE) 417 - Cloudy 10:01Z 55 53 3 107 (ESE) 373 - Cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:15Z Doors Open Fans On 05:30Z Doors Closed Fans Off Stowed at 30 deg alt, engcam installed.
