APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday December 19, 2005 (MJD 53724) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Dan Long Night: Mike Harvanek Howard Brewington Support: Steph Snedden Jon Brinkmann ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Completed the pointing model. Did an aliveness check of the imager. Had a problem with the spectro guider camera. DIMM crashed. We had to close after midnight because of high winds. Completed a few other shake tasks; see log. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: Spectrograph focus checked and found roughly where it was last night. The yellow XSIGMA and WSIGMA values are just barely over the line and with the enclosure more than 4C warmer than ambient, it should be in spec later. Collimate is calling best focus about 4000 higher, so the 4 degree shift would be just about right. 23:10Z Doors Open, Fans On, Louvers Open 00:15Z After sitting idle for some time, my sop session started complaining about the relay server socket 30410 being in use. It had successfully grabbed the instruments nearly an hour earlier and run the checks several times. Note that I was running as observer. Mirrors homed and relaxed. Numbers look good. Engineering camera mounted and checked out in preparation for the pointing model. Night: --------- We completed the pointing model; see below. All looked good as well as the pointing. We checked the collimation with donuts which are stored in sdsshost2:/files/photo/frames/53724/5947. The in-focus frame was 33; +500=frame 38; -500=frame 43. The collimation looked okay and was not adjusted. We also did an on-telescope bias; run 5948. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ We had a problem when we switched to spectro, i.e., the guider camera was unhappy. They suggested that we swap to the spare guiderMac computer and reboot the camera. Unfortunately, this did not solve our problem. We left the spare computer connected. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 09:30Z We closed because of high winds. We had to reboot the DIMM computer at the start of the night. All worked well for a few hours, but the software crashed. The shake task (Location of Murmur Logs) was checked; it worked as advertised. We also checked and closed the PR6810 since we found no non-GMT time stamps in the murmurLog. See problems section for misc Watcher messages. endNight finished and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5946 22:12Z 22:32Z 100 O 130.80 135.75 47 ignore 5947 06:23Z 06:59Z 82 N -139.66 -130.50 71 engineering 5948 07:00Z 07:16Z 100 O -96.72 -92.74 41 bias ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5947 13 4 56 3.500 0.121 1.200 0.117 -0.01206 231 44 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5947 24 1 45 309 9 -0.678 0.199 0.851 0.312 -0.00286 5947 24 1 45 309 17 -0.840 0.285 0.739 0.381 -0.00248 5947 24 1 45 309 16 -0.654 0.302 1.367 0.295 -0.00460 5947 24 1 45 309 8 -0.613 0.350 1.764 0.152 -0.00593 5947 24 1 45 309 9 -0.936 0.264 1.597 0.180 -0.00537 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 35571, plate -9999 ------- 22:15 35571 0.0 bias ----- sequence 35572, plate 2334 ------- 22:34 35572 10.0 flat 22:37 35573 2.0 arc 22:50 35574 10.0 flat 22:52 35575 2.0 arc 22:56 35576 2.1 arc 22:58 35577 2.1 arc ----- sequence 35578, plate -9999 ------- 00:17 35578 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:46Z 37 17 19 299 (WNW) 209 - Clear 22:16Z 37 16 6 293 (WNW) 222 - Clear 22:47Z 38 15 6 273 (W) 280 - Clear 23:18Z 38 16 9 301 (WNW) 285 - Clear 23:50Z 35 15 4 263 (W) 267 - Clear 00:23Z 34 15 6 322 (NW) 330 - Clear 00:53Z 34 15 3 346 (NNW) 267 - Clear 01:23Z 34 15 15 315 (NW) 319 - Clear 01:45Z 34 15 12 291 (WNW) 331 - 02:15Z 34 15 14 296 (WNW) 308 - 02:45Z 34 15 15 299 (WNW) 312 - 03:16Z 34 15 16 303 (WNW) 340 - 03:47Z 34 14 13 300 (WNW) 406 - 04:20Z 33 14 17 301 (WNW) 479 - 04:52Z 33 15 8 333 (NNW) 406 - 05:23Z 32 15 8 316 (NW) 446 - 05:56Z 32 16 15 317 (NW) 457 - 06:28Z 31 16 6 3 (N) 455 - 07:00Z 30 16 9 358 (NNW) 472 - 07:30Z 31 18 13 357 (NNW) 419 - 08:01Z 30 18 17 353 (NNW) 463 - 08:31Z 32 16 26 13 (NNE) 290 - 09:01Z 31 16 18 34 (NE) 214 - 09:32Z 32 12 31 24 (NNE) 173 - 10:03Z 33 15 23 20 (NNE) 153 - 10:33Z 34 15 27 1 (N) 113 - 11:05Z 34 14 18 13 (NNE) 108 - 11:38Z 33 15 23 11 (N) 184 - 12:10Z 32 15 25 41 (NE) 207 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:10Z Doors Open, Fans On, Louvers Open 00:30Z Enclosure Open 09:30Z We closed because of high winds. 11:53Z We closed the door and louvers; turned off fans Telescope at 121,30,00 mount; cart 05 mounted LN2 connected and turned on.
