APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday January 21, 2006 (MJD 53757) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Pan Night: Barentine, V.&E. Malanushenko ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Clouds and dust for the evening, during observations of cartridge 8. Also it was a some problem with UDP port connection - see log. Completed cartridges: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7. Dust was marginally high tonight (~2000 counts) but never close to 3000. We continued observing and there were no dust spikes, so we don't think the mirrors need cleaning. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: Spectrograph focus checked. No change was made. set for around 0 C. As usual details in problem section. 23:30Z after discussed with John, we decided to have Fans on, louvers open, west door cracked, east door open half way (dust reading 2100 during past two hours). Night: Delay to start observations because clouds and dust. Opened telescope at 01:35Z. Spectroscopy. 01:50Z Cartridge 8, plate 1640 - Orion. FSGTF with small ofset from last day. Efficiency is around 30-40. The precalib show that inst has not been grabbed. After GrabInst, we have error mesage that the port is in use already (see error message in problem section #2). John rebooted server, but it did not fix the problem. John used the solution from folklore: John: "I used this URL http://sdsshost2.apo.nmsu.edu/folklore/sop/index.html#sop.01-08-22_01:34:32_UT And looked at the document called "Prescription for avoiding or recovering from the SOP UDP port 30410 conflict". The problem was likely caused by me having opened PGPlot or my saoImage window before grabbing the instruments. We lost about 15 minutes of time solving the problem." Seeing 1.3 arcsec. The sequence observations: science -> +9" sky (unguided) -> science -> -9" sky (unguided) Mostly clouds. First science exposure is bed, was repeated. 07:00Z Cartridge 6, plate 2316 - Segue FSGTF with small ofset from last plate. Seening 1.3 arcsec or better. Completed this plate with a total exposure time of 5500 sec. 07:48Z Cartridge 3, plate 2347 - Chunk FSGTF with small ofset from last plate. Seening 1.4 arcsec. Completed this plate with a total exposure time of 6900 sec. 08:40Z Cartridge 7, plate 2345 - Chunk Seenig 1.3 arcsec. FSGTF with small ofset from last plate. Start observations closed zenith, at 09:00Z. Completed this plate with a total exposure time of 2520 sec. 09:50Z Cartridge 4, plate 2348 - Chunk FSGTF with small ofset from last plate. Seening 1.2 arcsec. Completed this plate with a total exposure time of 3300 sec. 11:00Z Cartridge 2, plate 2138 - Chunk Seening 1.2 arcsec Field was found with FK5 after clearing offsets. Completed this plate with a total exposure time of 3300 sec. endNight rejoiced ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5989 22:06Z 22:26Z 100 O 161.87 166.91 48 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 22:09 36577 2.1 arc 22:11 36578 2.1 arc ----- sequence 36579, plate -9999 ------- 23:22 36579 0.0 bias 23:41 36580 0.0 bias ----- sequence 36581, plate 1640 ------- 02:47 36581 10.0 flat 02:50 36582 2.0 arc 03:29 36583 900.1 target -
