APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday March 13, 2006 (MJD 53808) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan Jian Ge and the ET crew Support: Steph Snedden (by phone) French Leger Visitor: Mike Harvanek ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET setup and Science ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Thanks to Jim and Connie, we get the imager back to service. We went on sky. got signals on all available ET plates: E8018, E8019, E8021, E8022, and E8023. Efficiency from SOP GUI was extremely low, 1%. GUI suggested scale change could vary from 0.003 to -0.003 within two 10 sec updates while there was no adjustment made. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- 23:10Z Fans on, louvers open. Enclosure was moved by day crew before this time. 02:10Z Cartridge and telescope is ready for going on sky. Waiting ET crew to finish final setup. 02:50Z cart 1, plt 8019. FK5 and spiralPattern were used to get guiding stars. Efficiency from guider monitor is extremely low, 1%, while focus and scale look good: images of guiding stars are round, and seeing measurements are about 1.5" across the field. For 10 sec intergrating time, images for guiding stars have counts of 150 to 500. Parameters for the guiding stars in plugmap file are wrong? or something else is wrong? After a few 10 min exposures, ET team found that fluxes gotten are about only 10% of expected values. Then, they decided to unplug cartridge 5 and plug plate E 8018 to it. Many thanks to French for help in plugging the plate during night. 05:15Z cart 5, plt 8018. Stars on GTF. Efficiency from SOP GUI is still 1%. But ET team got better results, so they decide to contine the observation. 07:50Z cart 6, plt 2021. FK5 is used to get guiding stars. SOP GUI efficiency is even lower than those for previous two plates (100 -- 300 counts for 10 sec intergration time). Cloud camera showed that it is photometric skies, but SOP GUI predicted scale change varies from -0.003 to 0.003, and occationally, there were no seeing measurements for some of guiding stars. Some problem in plate design? 09:50Z cart 7, plt 2022, stars on GTF. As the case for cart 6, GUI suggested scale change varies very quickly (e.g. it suggested scale change -0.003, next updat could be +0.003 while there was no adjustment made). 11:20Z cart 8, plt 2023, stars on GTF. Stars images are seen in fiber 7 and 9, but frequently, there were not seeing measurements for these two fibers. As for other plates, GUI suggested scale change varies up and down quickly. 12:58Z endNight finished. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6053 04:35Z 05:04Z 100 O -50.27 -43.05 62 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 38002, plate -9999 ------- 00:47 38002 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:35Z 1 8019 174.94 -0.0007 61.08 0.0006 -8.94 -0.0063 1.000010 06:34Z 5 8018 241.82 0.0001 41.15 0.0010 101.10 -0.0268 1.000340 09:18Z 6 8021 89.43 0.0012 60.20 0.0016 251.67 -0.0133 0.999970 10:11Z 7 8022 111.67 0.0020 66.08 0.0023 -85.42 -0.0016 1.000060 11:38Z 8 8023 107.45 0.0023 52.36 0.0020 -99.42 -0.0067 1.000050 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:35Z 1 8019 1.00001 -99 1178 110 175 61.1 -2.2 6 345 -- 1.5 06:34Z 5 8018 1.00034 -3358 -1458 110 242 41.2 -1.8 10 304 -- 1.3 09:18Z 6 8021 0.99997 296 1497 100 89 60.3 -0.9 12 294 -- 2.3 10:11Z 7 8022 1.00006 -593 748 100 112 66.1 -1.1 12 282 -- 2.1 11:38Z 8 8023 1.00005 -494 835 70 107 52.3 0.0 7 269 -- 2.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:26Z 31 -8 11 4 (N) 451 - clear 00:58Z 30 -8 8 8 (N) 429 - clear 01:31Z 28 -4 0 352 (NNW) 454 - clear 02:03Z 27 -2 7 19 (NNE) 438 - clear 02:35Z 27 -1 2 5 (N) 426 - clear 03:07Z 26 -2 7 351 (NNW) 393 - clear 03:39Z 28 -2 5 22 (NNE) 444 - clear 04:11Z 27 -2 0 335 (NNW) 452 - clear 04:43Z 27 -2 7 319 (NW) 451 - clear 05:16Z 27 -1 0 355 (NNW) 457 - clear 05:47Z 28 1 5 339 (NNW) 499 - clear 06:19Z 28 0 1 252 (WSW) 503 - clear 06:51Z 28 2 4 280 (W) 567 - 07:23Z 31 -1 8 266 (W) 408 - 07:54Z 29 -2 11 295 (WNW) 585 - 08:24Z 29 1 8 279 (W) 770 - 08:55Z 29 3 10 302 (WNW) 846 - 09:28Z 29 7 8 262 (W) 970 - 10:00Z 29 5 7 324 (NW) 942 - 10:31Z 29 4 9 275 (W) 984 - 11:03Z 33 -2 4 284 (WNW) 882 - 11:36Z 32 -3 6 263 (W) 775 - 12:08Z 32 -10 8 277 (W) 749 - 12:42Z 32 -12 3 260 (W) 690 - 13:14Z 33 -11 9 266 (W) 601 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:10Z Fans on, louvers open.
